00:00Twists, turns and surprise moves that caught many Singaporeans off guard on nomination day.
00:08For one, the People's Section Party team fielded Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong,
00:14who had been expected to lead the team in Chwa Chukang GRC, in Pongo GRC instead.
00:20And in DPM Gan's place, Manpower Minister Tan Si Ling will anchor the PAP's team there.
00:26Also, stepping down from politics are Deputy Prime Minister Heng Sui Kiet and Senior Minister Teo Chi Hien.
00:33Here's what PM Wong had to say at a press conference held at the party's headquarters this afternoon.
00:39And if you look at the overall picture, I will be in the west in Masling, UT.
00:46Senior Minister Lee is in the centre in Al Mokyo.
00:50And DPM Gan will be in Pongol in the east.
00:53That's a better distribution of our senior leadership for the campaign.
00:59And if we are elected, that's also a better spread of leadership to make sure that we can cover the whole of Singapore
01:06and make sure that we do our best to serve all residents.
01:11Preparing for an election is always dynamic.
01:14We take many things into consideration as we tell our candidates nothing is fixed until nomination day.
01:20Compared to GE 2020, which was held during the COVID-19 pandemic,
01:26PM Wong said that he expects the upcoming GE to be a tough contest.
01:32The opposition is better organised than before.
01:35And aside from the one walkover, every area will be fiercely contested.
01:41And my team and I will work very hard to make our case to Singaporeans and to win every vote.
01:49In this changed world, I've worked hard to assemble the best possible team for Singapore,
01:56a fresh team combining experience and new perspectives.
02:01Together, my team and I share a new collective resolve to keep Singapore going and to improve our lives.
02:08And so our message to Singaporeans in this election is a changed world, a fresh team with new resolve.
02:18In the end, as in every election, Singaporeans must decide.
02:23My appeal to Singaporeans is this.
02:28Help me and my PAP team do our best for you.
02:34We will go all out to secure a brighter future for you.
