In today's GB News Daily Reflection, we reflect on the day Jesus rose from the tomb."As the disciples walk - they talk about what has happened and a stranger asks what they are discussing."They look sad and say, 'are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who does not know what has happened in these days?'"Let's pause there a moment because the stranger joining them is Jesus himself, but the disciples have been kept from recognising him. I wonder if it is because they are so caught up in grief."

00:04Hi, I'm Brenda, vicar of St. Francis Parish Church in Teesside.
00:11On the day Jesus rose from the tomb, two disciples walked to a village called Emmaus,
00:17but don't yet believe that Jesus is risen from the dead.
00:21They saw the empty tomb and listened to the women, but are in a state of utter shock and confusion.
00:30As the disciples walk, they talk about what has happened, and a stranger asks what they are discussing.
00:37The disciples look sad and say,
00:40Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem that does not know what has happened in these days?
00:46Let's pause there a moment, because the stranger joining them is Jesus himself.
00:53But the disciples have been kept from recognising him.
00:56I wonder if it's because they are so caught up in grief.
01:02Have you ever been so utterly devastated that you couldn't take things in?
01:08The stranger walks with them, and they invite him to sit and eat with them.
01:14And when Jesus takes some bread, blesses it, breaks the bread and shares it with them,
01:20suddenly they recognise Jesus.
01:23He disappears, and they rush back to Jerusalem to tell everyone the good news.
01:29These disciples, in their grief, fail to recognise Jesus, yet still offer kindness.
01:37How will we treat the stranger in our midst, even in our most difficult times?
01:43The world becomes a better place when we offer kindness to the stranger.
01:49It speaks of Jesus' love for all humankind.
01:53Amen.
