00:28taste great peanut quality and now let's all play what's my line
00:46and now live from new york let's meet our what's my line panel first
00:51columbia university's gift to television the beautiful and talented miss sue oakland
01:12television owes a large debt to the imagination and creative energy
01:17of the man on my left the great mark goodson
01:32thank you for those of you who have no color television sets miss cod is wearing a beautiful
01:37green dress miss oakland believe it or not we only have eight more shows to go on what's my line
01:48uh after nearly 18 years it seems incredible but all good things come to an end so i have kind of
01:54a sentimental reason for being here because it's my last chance to introduce on the air
01:59a co-worker of nearly 18 years a great friend arlene francis
02:13and now our random house publisher whose column whose amusing column try and stop me is read in 600
02:29newspapers around the world and we have them for our very own for eight more weeks anyway mr bennett sir
02:43well if you notice that john daly's always mellifluent voice is even more resonant than ever tonight
02:54it's because he's boning up for that prestigious job as head of voice of america which will be starting
02:59right after labor day so he is silver tongue john charles daly
03:17thank you miss sue it's nice to have you back with us and boss
03:22nice to see you john and there was a nice little speech you made about arlene and arlene and bennett
03:27and i've been together now the better part of what 17 and a half years with mark
03:31and we're all getting nostalgic as the days and the weeks go by but that does not stop us from
03:37getting occupations which will give the four of you the nip ups in the next half hour we'll also have
03:41a mystery guest before our friends a famous mystery guest before our friends a little bit later in the
03:46program but right now let's meet our first contestant will you enter and sign in please
03:57the next one
04:00john and
04:08frank
04:10mcguire right there
04:18good
04:21well mrs mcguire may i ask where you're from
04:25originally from glasgow scotland uh no reciting in victoria canada victoria canada and originally
04:32originally from glasgow ah well it's nice to have you with us may i present you both to the panel
04:37the master's mcguire and now if you'll come over here gentlemen we'll let the audience in the
04:41theater and the audience at home know exactly what your line is
04:57all right panel we can tell you that the messes mcguire are self-employed and deal in a product and
05:03we'll begin things with uh arlene francis thank you john is it a useful product yes
05:12uh do you suppose any on the panel might own such a product
05:17no no i wouldn't think so one doubt and nine to go mr sir uh masters mcguire your backs would
05:23turn to us so i didn't hear where you came from did you say glasgow originally from glasgow
05:28presently in victoria in in british columbia in canada in british columbia uh is the product in
05:36which you are dealing is it or has it ever been alive yes yes is it alive while you're dealing with
05:43it yes is it uh an animal yes is it a four-legged animal no no two doubt a date to go sue um
05:57have we ruled out the possibility of it being a human animal has not been ruled out
06:04how can i phrase this so that i can get the maximum out of it is it a human animal
06:10you got the maximum i got the minimum that's three down and seven to go mark it's an animal but it's
06:16uh not four like it is it um uh is it an animal which is found on land as opposed to water
06:25no takes care of that four out and six to go arlie it is therefore a sea animal yes very large
06:33yes sometimes grove does it um are its parts ever edible yes yes is it uh in the mammal family rather
06:49than the fish family no nope five down and five to go mr sir british columbia they have some wonderful
06:56salmon up there might it be the salmon family that you're dealing with no no nope six down and four
07:02to go sue oakland now um when we say animal that's a very large category that means living is that
07:10right john right because a fish is considered animal on this program well an animal vegetable mineral it
07:16would be yes it's a fish of some kind is it well we'd say in a very general way it belongs to that
07:21uh species yes i mean as opposed to uh crustacean or some other no just in the very general sense
07:27if you're if you want to get specifically to crustaceans and other elements and specific
07:32elements of the fish family why we'd be glad to have you ask the question but you're not
07:37you're now incorporating into the fish category all of these things the whole mess i mean all these
07:43things now does this have uh anything on it that's hard yes does it have what might be termed a shell
07:53of some kind yes it could be in a very general way again yes but then i i gather from your tone that
08:03it's not a crustacean or lobster or a clam something that is obviously a shell kind of fish yeah i would
08:10say it's not as obvious in this case as it is in other cases where one can't tell out as often as
08:15one would like to does this have scales then is that what would you would be considering the hard
08:20part no no no no scales actually hasn't got a weight problem that's seven down and three to go
08:27and it's good uh this uh fish or whatever it is is it uh have they come pretty sizable they have
08:36a way up to 100 pounds yes yes i do you both both of you fellows work on on in the same place
08:45yes yes yeah do you do you train or catch this particular kind of fish yes is something like a
08:51turtle no no that's eight down and two to go ali i was sure that's what i was yeah i was right in the
08:58back of that turtle yeah remember we've determined that the shell area has not to do with anything that is
09:04is uh usual or crustaceous uh however it you also say it has no scales i mean some fish right no scales
09:14it's got no shell now you're getting closer every minute arlene is it ever very small yes
09:23is uh would it be considered a soft shell in any way well to the degree that a shell is there
09:32we'd have to agree that it has i mean like a soft shell crab well it wouldn't i wouldn't say it would
09:38be exactly like a soft shell crab we're assuming that what structure there is there may have been
09:43at one time hard shell now has to be generally described as being in the shell area and we would
09:48be very happy as i think you would be if we got over there got away from the shell
09:52uh does it ever get into the sand rather than rather than stay in the sea doesn't like sand as a
10:04matter of fact both come from scotland we can eliminate the loch ness min monster right there too
10:09you can get rid of the minsters does this object that you deal with ever croak no no no
10:15it's the area that we're talking about that threw you off actually i didn't know it but there are
10:30octopuses up there i was thinking of octopus but where is the shell on the octopus well it's
10:35it's in the beak it's an old probably had a big shell at one time which is why i tried to get you
10:41away from shells as much as i could that old shell game again the old shell game but actually john and
10:48frank go out in scuba gear and go down to the lair of the octopus which they know and which they will
10:54not reveal specifically i'm happy to hear what is it you take copper sulfate yes yes and they squirt
10:59copper sulfate at them which irritates the daylights out of an octopus would i'm sure any one of you too
11:06and then the octopus gets out and preferably you get them in sand where they can't use the suction cups
11:11then they wrestle them up to the surface and did they squirt back at you yes yank ink how big is
11:18the big octopus oh oh they go real big 150 pounds 22 feet i always think of the nearsighted octopus
11:26that fell in love with the scotch bagpipe
11:28the messes mcguires have heard that one you know well it's a wonderfully interesting occupation thank
11:40you both for coming down to see us nice to see you
11:56we'll have another contestant for you in just a moment after this word
11:59and now to meet our second challenger will you sign in after you've entered please
12:11sandy
12:12driggan right ma'am
12:25all right is it miss or mrs triggan miss triggan and where are you from forest hills new york forest
12:32hills new york and you won't mind if i announce that you're going to enter your senior year at
12:35the university of mexican no i love it so we're talking about really a summer occupation may i now
12:41miss triggan present the panel and if you come over here please we'll let the audience in the
12:46theater and the audience at home know exactly what your life
13:02panel we can tell you that miss triggan is salaried and deals in a product and we'll begin things with
13:07uh bedded sir well now that we find out miss triggan that an octopus has a shell don't fight city hall
13:15bedded just go get which i still doubt very much miss dragon uh the product that you deal in is one
13:22i take it that could be used by human beings yes sir uh human beings of both sexes yes might it also be
13:30used by children yes is it a product that is consumable yes it is is it taken into the mouth
13:41yes it is sometimes it is well i would just say yes it is period uh is it a solid rather than a liquid
13:50hopefully it is it uh sometimes eaten cold and warm or warm can it be both cold and warm um i think so
14:04he can't no no no wait a minute a minute we gotta have a small kind
14:13okay okay miss triggan wants to be fair yes john and if the old shell game has it you just gotta
14:21know that's one down in 90s i bet it's something that melts and it's cold well i won't melt when it's
14:26be back when it's cold when it's warm yes sue is it um is it sweet yes it is is it in the confection
14:36or dessert area yes it could be circumcised sir is it um is it sold at circuses and um you know kind
14:44of amusement parks and um yes i think so it could be it could be um we got kind of a rise out of you
14:54at the word children so i mean is it kind of oriented toward the younger set no i don't think
15:00so i think it can be i could have had some just before the show started yeah i would have to give
15:04you a known that because while children would like it very much it's not oriented specifically toward
15:08children adults get it yes you did sorry that's two down at eight to go mr goodson is it served cold
15:14basically i think so you think so uh is it uh chilled and is that kind of cold
15:24like ice cream is cold yes uh-huh well is it a form of of ice cream in some way or ice yes yes
15:31you're nodding john i'm about to leap over this is it is it on a stick yes cotton candy is that what
15:39you're going to ask no you're a popsicle thrower or something like that popsicle thrower no that's
