00:00well hi it is coming up on Christmas once again and that means that Rob Peters is here from
00:27Pennsylvania fine wines and good spirits how do you like that huh that's the first year I didn't
00:31stumble on it perfect perfect John it's great to be here with you well it is holiday time and each
00:38and every year you can buy with all these great wines and great bargains let me start you here
00:42because I know this isn't we don't have enough here to talk about it but isn't this like load
00:49a tote time isn't this that time of year I have that fill a tote program fill a tote okay so they'll
00:55offer 10 wines in November and December on sale and you buy six of them mix or match you get an
01:02additional $12 off oh wow so if you have two three dollars off a bottle initially and then you get
01:08another two dollars off that's like getting four or five dollars off per bottle and you get a tote
01:12with it for free and who doesn't like a nice tote and they're reusable take them to the supermarket
01:19so all right well what are we starting with this year I thought we'd start off with a sparkler okay
01:24and this one happens to come out of the Loire Valley all righty in France it's 90% Chenin Blanc
01:30and 10% Chardonnay all right so so it's a sparkling wine and not a champagne not a champagne right
01:37right but here we're just going to pour a little bit to get a good sight of it I still enjoy pouring
01:43my sparkling wine in the flutes uh-huh because I like the way it looks and this one it's a nice
01:48alternative to champagne it's $20 it's available in the premium collection stores most of them all
01:55right okay and you can search that online but look at that beautiful color and that stream of bubbles
02:01yeah that's great this is and the foam it creates on the top is called the mousse I never I never heard
02:07that before yeah as it breaks the surface that isn't the mousse just like chocolate mousse yeah
02:14well I was all right because from what I understand there are no mousses all right in France it's oh
02:22god that's really nice it's got great aromas and a reasonable because a lot of champagne starts forty
02:28dollars it goes up so what do you think on the flavor today for as sparkling as it is I honestly so
02:35when it got in my mouth it you know got all sort of fuzzy all right and I went oh my god this is
02:39gonna be too much no it's light it's gentle it's really it's really really nice that way and it's
02:44not extremely acidic or tart as some no other sparkling wines can be right and so this is once again I love
02:52the little party label here $20 per bottle 1999 and it's imported by John David Hendrick what are we
03:00up to next so we're going to jump into a white another white okay here we have Pinot Gris from
03:05Oregon all right great all right and I just thought Pinot Gris would be a great alternative to the Savion
03:11Blanc Chardonnay world mm-hmm out there it's a grape originally out of France and also it's known from
03:20Italy for Pinot Grigio right but Pinot Gris they crop the yields much smaller lower yield to get more
03:26intense flavor you know it's sort of funny I didn't realize that there was a different when you were
03:29saying Pinot Gris I thought you were just hipping up Grigio all right you know but it's actually a
03:34different wine it's a different wine stylistically but they're still using the same basic grape great
03:41nose on this I'd be curious about your reaction on the flavor that's this is a welcome change to
03:51the Savignon Blanc yeah it really is it's it's it's soft it's not it's I wouldn't call it a powerful wine
03:58but for but but you want to get away from for the Chardonnays and Savignon Blanc wow this is a great
04:04choice yeah because the acidity on this is a little bit lower so the richness of the fruit comes through
04:09mm-hmm and I just think this is a great alternative to those other two major whites to kind of give
04:16people to expand their power right Oregon this is a fifteen sixteen dollars something like that so
04:23it's in the mid-teens that is not bad at all all right it looks like we're going red now we'll get
04:27into the reds okay I thought I'd start off with a little Pinot Noir uh-huh and this is an example
04:33from the chairman's select program where they go out and buy hundreds or thousands of cases and get a
04:39great deal this is uh from the Byron winery in Santa Barbara okay it's a hundred percent Pinot Noir and
04:46it's a screw cap and I love to help people get over the fear of a screw cap I I'm a fan of the screw cap
04:52I think the screw cap is perfectly fine look it's great to have cork but here's the great thing about
04:56the screw cap the screw cap if you're stirring the wine it doesn't leak it doesn't bleed nothing like
05:02that happens to it it stays closed that's right you pour out a glass or two put the closure back on
05:08throw it in the fridge sideways yep you're good and this is $11.99 marked down from $18 now we're
05:16going right for these should they breathe a little more than than what we're going for no I mean if
05:21if you have time on a dining room table because you'll be there for a couple hours it can't hurt and
05:28where's this from this is from Santa Barbara County okay in the Byron all right Byron winery and this was a
05:34listed code for a long time and it was 18 to $20 and now going for what $11.99 oh my god
05:40well it's got great it's got great heritage it's got great nose it's got a great price oh my god it
05:47better taste this good it's got everything gone for it at a great price I mean just think about it now
05:54this won't be around forever but there is a lot of it in a warehouse I checked before we did I want
06:00to make sure good thank you hundred cases okay but just the aromatics on this are beautiful you get the
06:07cherry fruit you get other red fruit yeah raspberry I mean you know me I like big fat wines that bite
06:14back so what when I when I when I go for something like this and it's lighter than what I'm used to my
06:21immediate reaction is nah but then when I go for the second sip it's like wait a second you know
06:26what this really has a lot going for it yeah and this is something you want to use with foods that
06:32aren't heavily spiced uh-huh or overwhelming strong flavors right form more delicate so then now what
06:39do we got now we're going to go to our example from the Phil tote program okay she brought up earlier
06:43this is the Lewis Martini Cabernet Sonoma County it's on so this is a full cap full cap and Sonoma County is
06:51one of the premium growing regions for Cabernet now I know we talk about this each and every
06:57time you hear but we should explain to people why we spin our wine and our glasses well now since we
07:04have wine without bubbles yes where the bubbles drive the flavors up here we're trying to interact the
07:11wine with the air and release some of those components that give you the aromas but this is one of those wines that
07:17would definitely benefit with a little bit of air right like canning it or putting it in the glass if
07:23you don't have a decanter throw some in the glass before the meal right let it sit because now see
07:28we've introduced air right because when you take the cork out you just have a tiny area but this way
07:33you've got the whole shoulder well the only thing left to do here is drink well here's toast the holidays
07:39with friends and family oh nice tone I also just want to remind everyone to enjoy responsibly this
07:50holiday season he's trying to say don't drink and dry this is I mean I I'm getting a lot of the big
08:00tannin yeah but it still has the dark rich fruit to balance it out you get that blackberry you get the
08:06plum you get the cassis okay if I had to really make a choice of which of these bad boys was going
08:14to be the one I'm taking home what do you think what do you think it would be Rob what do you think
08:20I'm going well I think your biggest surprise was the Pinot Gris the Pinot Gris is the biggest surprise
08:25it really is but I'm going I'll always lean red and I love I love the wait wait this is it yeah the the
08:32you know the the Pinot Gris all right that was really really great it's got a rich interesting
08:38wine with lots of depth flavor it lingers on your palate and it's got fruitiness yes that's what I
08:43really enjoy about it it's fruity without being too sweet so it it kind of blocks that thin line
08:49with having enough fruit for maybe people that want a sweeter wine because I think people that go for
08:55those fruitier wines don't want the acid right that crisp kind of tartness that dries your mouth out
09:01like eating lemon wedges or drinking this yes we're drinking this cab monster tannins it does
09:08have some monster tannins in it I'm glad to hear that because we always want to come up with something
09:13new and original and I want to always bring new things to you John and and kind of open horizons
09:18well I am I am sorry that we only get to do this once a year and I hope someone at the PLCB please be
09:25very kind and we would like to do this more often do it quarterly yeah that's it quarterly and cover
09:31cover your seasons that's it each season exactly now exactly foods all right think about all the
09:37things that we could be selling for Easter that's right it's right around the corner like three months
09:42away well look have a great holiday season thank you so much for coming in once and John thanks for
09:47the invitation Rob Peters from fine wines and good spirits he did it twice and remember John I would
09:54just remind everyone to please enjoy responsibly this holiday season and there you go enjoy your
09:59holiday we're gonna drink without you
