00:00We are back live in our WDHA Miller Lite Studios with the one and only.
00:04And everybody missed all those stories we just talked about.
00:07We were just telling some great stories off the...
00:09Well, we were talking about Anton Figg and your love for just hearing his drumming.
00:15And you said that originally there was somebody else on 10,000 volts.
00:18But in your mind, Ace, you heard Anton and you were like, you know what?
00:22I got to call him.
00:23Well, I know it was a special song.
00:23Yeah, yeah.
00:24And I said to Steve, you know, let's get the best drummer in the world as far as I'm concerned.
00:31And we gave it to Anton.
00:32And, you know, what was it?
00:34The eighth take?
00:35Yep.
00:36Take eight.
00:36He goes, take eight.
00:37On that video.
00:38It's on social media.
00:39I saw it.
00:40I saw it on Insta.
00:42It was magic.
00:44You know, and again, we had Joey Quesada, who's our drummer with the Eric and CJ and I.
00:48He's a great drummer too.
00:48And Trickster and Eric Martin.
00:49Take away from him.
00:50And Joey played on half the record.
00:52But there are certain things where Anton and Ace have such a chemistry.
00:55You know, Ace is the guy who discovered Anton Figg back when Anton was in the band Spider.
01:00And there's something about the way Anton plays.
01:03They don't even have to.
01:04Ace just goes, Anton, do your thing.
01:07And Anton knows exactly what to do to make the song.
01:11Yeah, we played so many.
01:12He recorded, what, four or five albums together?
01:15Yeah.
01:16Yeah.
01:16He was in Kiss for one day.
01:18Yeah.
01:18Right.
01:19I remember reading that, you know.
01:21Oh, are we live again?
01:23Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:24Yeah.
01:24When they decided to let Peter go because of, you know, what issues he was having, be that
01:31as it may, they knew I was working with Anton on my demos.
01:36And also, he played on all the tracks on my solo albums with New York Group.
01:42So, they said to me, why don't we get, I said, why don't we have Anton take over Peter's job
01:49since he was, so, you know, really want to make a change.
01:54So, they looked at me and they said, sure.
01:56So, I called up Anton, I said, you're in Kiss.
02:00He goes, are you kidding?
02:02I go, yeah.
02:03Paul and Jean just agreed to have you join Kiss.
02:07Then the next day, they called me up and they said, you know, we've been doing some thinking
02:11and we know that you and Anton left to party together.
02:14Oh.
02:16So, they said, that might be a little too much.
02:19So, he was out.
02:20Did you tell him?
02:20They said, we're going to do auditions.
02:23And then we ended up getting out of a car.
02:25Yeah.
02:26Did you have to call him and tell him that, Ace?
02:28I had to call him.
02:28You had to call him.
02:29And give me the bad news.
02:30I don't know how many people he called.
02:33Well, Anton also, you know, Anton played on Dynasty.
02:36He played on Dynasty.
02:37Yes, yes.
02:37And he played drums on Unmask.
02:38Yep.
02:39So, he's done well for himself.
02:41But we love Anton.
02:42And one of the coolest things about the Anton thing was when we were talking about getting
02:45Anton, we were at my house and I just made grilled chicken and asparagus for me and Ace.
02:51And just so you know, Ace likes a lot of butter on his vegetables and his chicken.
02:55So, he goes, Steve, give me more butter.
02:57And I go, dude, we got to call Anton.
03:00So, Ace calls Anton, leaves a message.
03:03I kid you not, two minutes later, the phone rings and it's just the three of us in my kitchen.
03:07Well, the two of us, the phone rings.
03:09Hey, Ace, it's Anton.
03:10And on speakerphone and I'm sitting there and again, little fanboy moment.
03:15I'm like the eight-year-old kid in me is like, you got to be kidding me.
03:18And they're talking about, hey, Ace goes, hey, Anton, I want you to meet Steve.
03:22Here he is.
03:22He's on the phone.
03:23He wants you to play on the record.
03:25And we got this great, and it was just surreal for me in one of those moments.
03:29Surreal.
03:29And you know, everybody knows Anton because even if you don't know everything that he's
03:33played on, I mean, he was in the late night with Letterman Band for so many years.
03:36And you've seen him and you know him.
03:38And I mean, he's just such a part, such an iconic part.
03:41And I love those musicians, those working musicians who are an iconic part of everything.
03:45And yet everybody may not know who they are.
03:48So, I mean, I just think it's so special when I saw that he was on.
03:51I keep forgetting, you know, I'm so old.
03:52And when I talk to people, I expect them to know the stuff I know.
03:56I was talking to Lars Kiz and we were watching The Wizard of Oz.
04:00And I said, you know, the guy in the Beverly Hillbillies, he was originally going to be
04:05the Tin Man, but he had an allergic reaction to the silver makeup.
04:09And they go, who's the Beverly Hillbillies?
04:11I'm surprised they knew The Wizard of Oz.
04:13I've never seen that show.
04:15You know, I keep forgetting the generation gap, but it was cute.
04:18Because Ace, you're like a 19-year-old guy now.
04:22Yeah.
04:22You know.
04:23He still is.
04:24I'm on a plane now and like, I'll ask a stewardess who doesn't know who I am.
04:28How old do you think I am?
04:29And she'll go 55.
04:31There you go.
04:33I have to pull out my license, you know.
04:35That's so funny.
04:36I'm a little older than that.
04:37That is so funny.
04:38You're 25 for life, man.
04:39So I'm a little kid.
04:40Music keeps you young.
04:42I'm convinced of that.
04:43All right.
04:43I'm going to take another quick break and then we'll come back.
04:47And I'm going to do a couple of listener questions and play some more tunes in.
04:51Because there's some good questions here.
04:53Otis hit me up and Debbie D's in Philadelphia and Michael.
04:58So chatting a little bit more.
05:00I want to talk also about Don't Let Me Forget the Carteret Pack Show.
05:03Yes.
05:04Because that's coming up.
05:04So I want to promote that.
05:05I want to talk about that a little more as we are hanging out with the iconic, the legendary,
05:09the one and only Ace Frehley live in the WDHA studio.
05:11That's the same thing.
05:17That's the same thing.
05:18I want to talk about how you are hanging out with the subscribe button.
