00:00That, my friends, is Ace on guitar.
00:05I love that.
00:05Live shock.
00:06We were just talking about that.
00:08Stevie, Stevie, we're going to talk about you, Ace, right now.
00:12Stevie, you were talking about the finger-topping.
00:14It's all been said, Sreena.
00:16I know, I know.
00:17He's so bashful.
00:18He is.
00:19He's so humble.
00:20He is.
00:21And that's what we love about him.
00:22Well, he said that before.
00:23He said when he pulled into the parking lot, he was like, who are these blanking people?
00:26I never took a guitar lesson.
00:28Sometimes I feel like, you know, I don't belong here, you know, because so many other guitar
00:34players have taken guitar lessons, know how to read music, and, you know, I just wing
00:40it.
00:41He's Ace.
00:42He's Ace.
00:43Well, whatever you're doing, winging it, you're doing a hell of a job, and what a career you've
00:46made out of winging it.
00:48But, you know, I was saying, that version, the Alive 2 version of Shock Me was one of
00:53the first guitar solos I ever heard as a kid.
00:57And it wasn't until later on, I just did a Guitar World interview where they asked
01:01me what my favorite Kiss guitar moment was, and it was that song, that version, the live
01:06version.
01:07And it's especially important because I don't know if a lot of guitar players even realize
01:11that Ace recorded that in the summer of 1977.
01:15And that he does a unique thing where it's not finger tapping like Eddie Van Halen did,
01:20it's pick tapping.
01:21He uses the side of his pick, and it creates a different sound.
01:24But needless to say, he was doing that, and Kiss Alive 2 came out before Van Halen 1,
01:30if I'm not mistaken.
01:31Oh, yeah.
01:32But Eddie does it a lot better than me.
01:34Well, yeah.
01:35But either way, it was still a phenomenal thing.
01:38He may have gotten some ideas from me, but he just took it to the next level.
01:42I mean, Eddie was an amazing guitar player.
01:45May he rest in peace.
01:46That's for sure.
01:47Yeah.
01:47And such a sweetheart.
01:48No doubt.
01:48No doubt.
01:49This has been, for me, just a little slice of heaven to have Ace freely hanging out.
01:55Now, Ace is close by.
01:58Will you come back and see us?
01:59Will you come back?
02:00Sure.
02:01You will come back and hang out, right?
02:02I hope so.
02:03Yeah.
02:03You guys will come back.
02:04After the album comes out, we'll talk about it.
02:06We could do, like, every track on the album and talk all about it.
02:11We got 11 tracks at 10,000 volts, Walking on the Moon, Cosmic Heart, Cherry Medicine, Back
02:17Into My Arms Again, Fighting for Life, Blinded, Constantly Cute, Life of a Stranger, Up in
02:21the Sky and Stratosphere.
02:22I try to get a little more from the record today, but we will be respectful.
02:27You know, anybody can go listen to, go online and listen to Stranger, Stranger, Life of
02:38a Stranger.
02:39Oh, yeah.
02:39Check it out.
02:40The Nadia version.
02:41Listen to the ending song on Transporter 1.
02:45Yeah.
02:45Yeah.
02:46We did it a lot heavier.
02:48Definitely.
02:49There's no question about that.
02:50We gave it the Ace and Steve touch.
02:52That's right.
02:53And we'll get you the full record soon.
02:55Yeah, we are getting it on February 24th, I believe.
02:59February 24th for 10,000 volts.
03:02Ace Frehley is back in a big way, and we're just so excited for you, because not only is
03:09it an amazing record, and we love great rock records at WDHA, because we're 50 years of
03:14rock history here, but we're just happy for you as an artist, because I think you deserve
03:19it.
03:20You absolutely deserve to make one of the greatest records of your career.
03:24Certain people have dragged my name through the mud over the years, and it's unfortunate,
03:29because I remember when I got signed to E1, Ken Gullick, who was the vice president of
03:37marketing and stuff, who helped me get signed, he said, a lot of people said to him, you know,
03:42you're not even going to get one album out of Ace, you know, because a lot of people had
03:48just been, you know, hypnotized and brainwashed by other people, you know, that bad-mouthed
03:53me, and unfortunately, that didn't happen, and I've been making records ever since, better
04:02and better, and I think this one will equal the 78th solo album, if not surpass it.
04:08Absolutely.
04:09Ace, such a pleasure.
04:11Thank you so much.
04:12Speak louder, because I'm deaf.
04:15You know, and we offered Ace headphones, and he's like,
04:19I'm deaf.
04:19He's like, he's like, you know, I don't think I'm going to use them.
04:24Well, tell the truth, he didn't want to mess up his hair.
04:26Well, yeah, he didn't want to mess up his hair.
04:29Total rock star.
04:30Well, he does.
04:31I got to tell you, Ace, he still has great hair.
04:34Well, listen, you go to an Ace show.
04:36It's a wig.
04:37No, it's not a wig.
04:38I touched it.
04:39It's not a wig.
04:40When you go to an Ace show, it is, it's still as loud.
04:44Like, that's the cool thing about going to see Ace.
04:46When you go see Ace, you feel that first, like, when he comes on stage, it goes whoosh,
04:52and it goes, like, from your toes all the way up, all the way up the body.
04:56Oh, he's got, Ace has got Night Bob, Aerosmith's old sound guy from the 70s,
05:00just mixing them, Night Bob Joukowsky, who's a Jersey guy, mixing them.
05:04Yeah, so it's total old school.
05:06It is.
05:06But we are working, Ace and I are going back to his house.
05:08We're going to be working on the new set for the 2024 show.
05:12And, you know, next year, and 2024 and 2025 are going to be huge years for Ace.
05:16Yeah, can't wait, can't wait.
05:18The year of Ace, my friends, 2024, is going to be great.
05:21February 24th, 10,000 volts, and, of course, the Carteret pack.
05:24When is Walking on the Moon coming out?
05:27In a couple weeks.
05:28We're working on that.
05:30That's going to be your second single.
05:31That's the second single, and then Cherry Medicine is going to be the third single
05:34that's going to come out.
05:35That's going to be a really elaborate video, from what I'm told.
05:38They're going to spend the big bucks on that.
05:40Woo!
05:41I can't wait.
05:41They're just going to kick the new album out, get it out there.
05:45Of course.
05:46Yeah.
05:46You know, there'll be chicks in black leather and all sorts of stuff.
05:49I don't want to give too much away.
05:50Don't give too much away.
05:51Yeah, well, you know, we got that lyric, you know,
05:53we love you when you're in your black leather, Ace, and I thought it would be cool to pull.
05:56You make me feel better when you're in your black leather.
05:58We pulled the lyric from Shock Me.
06:00Yes.
06:01Yeah.
06:01And there's that line with Ace saying it, it's so like Ace storytelling, because Ace tells
06:09like fun stories.
06:11Like, these are fun rock and roll stories when Ace is telling them.
06:14So, you know, that's exactly the tonation of it is very, very shocking.
06:19Come on, what guy doesn't like chicks in black leather?
06:23Everyone does.
06:24That's right.
06:25Come on.
06:27Fantastic.
06:28Oh, Ace Frehley, live in the WDHA studio.

06:41It was so much fun.
06:42It was just amazing.
06:43Pleasure.
06:44It was just amazing.
06:49Thank you so much for having me.
