00:14You know, I mean, I guess 2020, we had it in Nashville, which was kind of weird.

00:19A lot of artists have said exactly that.
00:22It was kind of weird because it's like you kind of just drove home afterwards, right?
00:25Yeah, but at the same time, it was just like it wasn't shocking in 2020 for anything to be super normal.
00:31But, you know, even when I landed here last night, I was like, here we are.
00:34Yeah.
00:35It just felt right.
00:36You know what I mean?
00:37Like springtime, Vegas, ACMs, like this is such a fun time of the year.
00:40Yeah, well, you're nominated for Male Artist of the Year, Album of the Year,
00:43but I want to talk about Parker McCollum.
00:45He's on tour with you.

00:46ACM, new male artist.
00:47How cool is that?
00:48I'm so jacked, dude.
00:49Did you text him right when you found out the news?

00:54Well, I watched this video with Miranda congratulating him.

00:57And Miranda said something that struck me as a song title.
01:00So I sent him the song title first, and then I congratulated him.

01:06It's a songwriter brain.
01:07We can't say it.
01:08But I will ask you about this years down the road, this very moment,
01:12and I'll say, was this the title?
01:14And I'll say yes.

01:16It's a good idea.
01:17I love that.
01:17And so you're finally back in Vegas.
01:19We'd love to see you.
01:20You're touring like so much.
01:22The last two years have been a mess.
01:23Yeah.
01:24And now you can finally get back to being an artist, being a songwriter.

01:28Are you glad to be back in this?
01:29Or did you, I mean, you got a family at home.
01:31Dude, I loved it.
01:31It's been great.
01:32You know what I mean?
01:32I obviously didn't love how terrible the world has been.

01:35But I did love, I think God knew I needed a little forced off time,
01:39to be honest with you.
01:40Yeah.
01:40And so it was really good just to get to connect with my kids and wake up with them 365 days
01:47in a row.
01:47Take them to school.
01:48You know what I mean?
01:48Make their lunch.
01:49Like, do the whole thing.
01:50And so, you know, we might not ever get that time ever again.
01:53Yeah.
01:53And I enjoyed it so much, man.
01:56But I am really ready to get back on the road.
01:59Like, in a real way.
01:59Because 21 was kind of a tease.

02:02It was there and then it wasn't.
02:03Yeah.
02:03But I think this year is finally, like, I think we're good to go.

02:06I definitely think so.
02:08And I'm so glad that you feel that way.
02:10And I'm so glad you took some time with the families.

02:12Now, was it hard for you to still get in that songwriting vibe when you weren't touring
02:17and you weren't doing your thing the last two years?
02:18Or did you find a new kind of channel of your brain to keep writing?
02:21I found it to be easier.
02:23Really?
02:24Yeah.
02:24That's so cool.
02:25I think once my brain had the time to chill for a minute and not think about what a show
02:31is going to look like or doing this or doing that.
02:33It was just all about being creative, you know.
02:34And I think getting me with my kids for that long, they just inspired so many different
02:38songs on Country Against Side A, this new record.
02:42And I just felt really clear that, like, okay, this is the season that we write songs.
02:46And now we go into the season when we play shows.
02:48And so it was a good creative outlet for me to be able to not be doing shows a whole bunch.
02:54Well, and that's so special that you can still find that season within your life.
02:59And maybe that season lasted two years.
03:01Yeah, it did.
03:01It was a long season.
03:03A long time of writing.

03:22She doesn't get here until Monday.
03:23And usually she's like my craps buddy or my blackjack buddy.
03:27And last night I was like, I had 20% FOMO of like, do I go hang?
03:32And dude, I got in the bed.
03:33I rented a movie.
03:34And I drank a beer.

03:39Free Guy.
03:40Oh, yeah.
03:40With Ryan Reynolds.
03:41Yeah, of course.
03:42It was pretty good.

03:46I mean, I feel great right now compared to years past.

03:50We have seen some artists on Radio Row that have come here and they're like, oh, my God.
