00:00Tampa Bay's morning crew want to honor and thank those who protect and serve our country.
00:05Time now for Military Monday on 99.5 QYK.
00:10Kicking the new year off with Military Monday right now, we have Robert on the phone.
00:16Good morning, Robert. How you doing?
00:18Good morning, guys. How you guys doing?
00:20We're doing great. We know that you are nominating your dad today, who is Robert Sr.
00:25Tell us about your dad's service.
00:26Well, my dad did over 27 years in the United States military.
00:30He spent most of his career in Germany.
00:33I was actually born over in Germany.
00:36He married a German lady, so to this day, I read and write German.
00:39But he worked on a top-secret missile project there for 14 years.
00:45And then after that, he had a repelling accident, which is why he's disabled now.
00:50You know, it just caught up to him.
00:52But then when the Gulf War started, he actually served in the Family Assistance Center, which basically, you know, because he was injured, he provided service to all the families whose dads were gone, you know, fighting in the war, which was, in my mind, one of the toughest jobs you could probably do, because you're the one that has to, you know, give people the bad news, you know, when the worst happens.
01:12Oh, my gosh.
01:13So after that, we came back to the state, and he was stationed at Fort Gordon, Georgia, and he, you know, finished his career out there as one of the general staff because he was a communications major in the military.
01:25Wow.
01:26You know, Robert, my dad is a veteran, too, and I remember, you know, the time that he actually told me about his service because I think it was hard for him to talk about.
01:34Do you kind of remember that conversation where he kind of broke down his career?
01:37Yes, sir.
01:38Yeah, my dad is very proud.
01:39I mean, he'd be ready to pick his rifle up today if he could.
01:42Wow.
01:43Here he is injured and unable to do probably the job he wants to do, so he's doing another job to help.
01:49I mean, still fighting in another way and serving in another way.
01:51What an amazing man you have, your father.
01:53Yes, I'm very blessed.
01:55I'm very blessed to have another dad.
01:56Now, Robert, is this a path that you want to follow as well?
01:59I actually, when I came to America, I was going to have to choose between German and American citizenship, so I actually did four years in the United States military, and I was able to keep dual citizenship.
02:12Wow.
02:12Well, look at that.
02:13Well, thank you for your service as well, Robert.
02:15We've got Robert Jr. and Robert Sr. to honor today for Military Monday.
02:19Well, listen, Robert, I hope you guys had a great holiday.
02:21I am so glad that you reached out to us and we got to honor your dad, who sounds like a very, very special guy.
02:26Yeah.
02:27Thank you guys for doing this.
02:29This is going to mean the world to him.
02:30Oh, absolutely.
02:31This is the easiest thing for us to do.
02:33We're so proud to do it, and we're just glad that we get to hear from people like yourself.
02:36And I just love learning about the people that live here in the Tampa Bay area and the places they have gone.
02:43I mean, being in Germany like that and you being born there, I mean, it's just great to know you guys.
02:47So thank you so much for your service.
02:49We can't thank you enough.
02:50You guys don't know how much you guys do for the military out there.
02:54It means a lot to them.
02:55Everything, all the kind words you guys say, that really makes a difference.
02:58All they want to do is be appreciated.
03:00Well, there you go.
03:00And it's literally the smallest thing we can do.
03:03I mean, we're so appreciated for them.
03:04Well, listen, here's the deal.
03:05Robert, I think you and your dad, our friends at PDQ, want to give you guys a $50 gift card.
03:10And maybe you guys can go have a meal together or just a little father-son time.
03:15But most importantly, we want to say thank you.
03:17Please pass our love and appreciation on to your dad as well.
03:21And we're so happy to talk to you.
03:23Awesome.
03:23Thank you, guys.
03:24You guys have a wonderful day.
03:25You too, Robert.
03:26Hang on for me.
03:27Well, there you go.
03:27Military Monday.
03:28We get to honor people, family members, friends.
03:31It's just it's an honor to be able to do that.
03:33So please nominate someone right now at 99.5QYK.com.
03:36Only takes a minute and you can do that.
03:39Also, we have First Responder Friday as well.
