00:00Tampa Bay's Morning Crew want to honor and thank those who protect and serve our country.
00:05Time now for Military Monday on 99.5 QYK.
00:11Friday, JR and I got the opportunity to talk to Cheryl,
00:15and she was bragging about her son, Beau, who serves our country.
00:20This is how it went down.
00:22All right, Military Monday today, we are talking to Cheryl.
00:24Good morning, Cheryl. How are you?
00:26Hi, good morning. How are you?
00:27We're doing great. I'm so glad you reached out to us.
00:29This is going to be fun. We get to recognize your son today.
00:32Tell us about Beau.
00:33Beau is my second son.
00:36He joined the military in 2014 when he graduated high school.
00:41He went into the Army.
00:43He was picked from his battalion commanders to go to canine school,
00:50which he went and he completed,
00:53and then he was stationed in Washington, D.C. military district on Joint Base Henderson.
01:05From there, he was working under President Obama and Vice President Biden at the time,
01:12where he did many missions with them.
01:14And then from there, he went into, who was under Trump's administration,
01:19also doing detail with the Secret Service and all that.
01:23Wow.
01:24He also deployed with his dog to Iraq for nine months and did missions over there,
01:30where he got many awards and accommodations.
01:34What an impressive son, Beau is.
01:35This is amazing to hear about him.
01:38We're so grateful for his service.
01:40Well, Cheryl, he is your baby, though, so we've got to ask you.
01:43Yes, my baby.
01:44How would you describe him outside the uniform?
01:47Just talk to us about your son.
01:48He is a very mindset.
01:52He's strong.
01:53He's a very go-getter.
01:56He works hard for, you know, everything he does.
02:01Cheryl, you say he's a go-getter, but, I mean, really, he's only served two presidents.
02:04I know, I know, I know, I know.
02:06But Beau, he's so, you know, he's been blessed, and he's worked hard, you know.
02:12He's worked hard for all he's done, too.
02:14I feel like his resume speaks for itself.
02:16I feel like that's not going to be an issue.
02:19Yeah.
02:19It goes without saying that your son is definitely a go-getter.
02:22This is great.
02:23I love it.
02:24When Beau is not serving our country or in school, what are his hobbies?
02:28What does he like to do?
02:29Beau is a master.
02:31He recently got certified as a master scuba diver.
02:36He loves his Jeep.
02:38He loves Jeep.
02:39You know, he loves, he's very adventurous.
02:42Yeah.
02:42Well, I love it.
02:43I mean, Beau sounds like a great son, loves his mom.
02:48He loves animals.
02:49Yes.
02:50Now, Cheryl, let me ask you a question.
02:52You know, obviously, we always, we say the families are making sacrifices, too.
02:56The families deserve credit for their service as well, because when they have a son deployed
03:01or a loved one deployed, and you are in that situation.
03:04So, Cheryl, what does he tell you to kind of calm your nerves about this?
03:08Like, for instance, when he was in Iraq?
03:10You know, he would tell me everything was fine.
03:13You know, he would keep in contact with me.
03:17Even now to now, like, you know, he's safe.
03:21He has his dog.
03:22And, like, he would always tell me, I have Leo, he's the best partner, and I'm the safest
03:29with him than anybody.
03:30Oh, my gosh.
03:31Does he still have Leo?
03:32No, he doesn't have Leo anymore, because Leo is a Washington, D.C., military district
03:39dog, so he has to stay in Washington.
03:42He's under a new handler.
03:44He still is working.
03:45He's eight years old now.
03:47Well, Bo had him when he first started at two, and Leo is still deploying, and he's
03:53still winning first place in competitions, and he's still doing awesome.
03:58And the hopeful long-term goal is Bo and Leo would be reunited.
04:05Leo retires, but the military law is the last handler gets first dip on who can adopt.
04:13Well, I'm crossing my fingers for you.
04:18Well, Cheryl, let me just say this.
04:19I mean, what you just said about your son speaks for itself.
04:22I mean, that was so well-descripted about what he's gone through, how he's served, the
04:28accomplishments he's had, and the future that he has in front of him.
04:31We are so thankful that you reached out to us to let us know about him.
04:34We'd like to do this.
04:34Our friends at PDQ are very appreciative as well.
04:38We'd like to give you a $50 PDQ gift card, so when he's not studying at the University
04:42of Tampa, he can go have a meal on us, okay?
04:44That would be awesome.
04:45Thank you so much.
04:46You got it, and thank you again so much for telling us about Bo.
04:49Oh, thank you so much for taking, you know, the time to listen about Bo.
04:53Absolutely.
04:53Don't forget, you can nominate somebody at 995QIK.com if you want to brag on somebody
04:59in your family who has also served our country.
