00:00A politician has urged Petronas and Petros to prioritize rebuilding mutual trust after former Petronas manager Kairul Akmal Jasni was charged with attempting to leak confidential information to Petros.
00:15Sarawak Persatu head Jaziri Alkaf Abdillah Sufyan warned that should allegations of corporate espionage be substantiated, it could deepen mistrust already present in ongoing high-stakes negotiations between the two companies.
00:31He said the legal process must be allowed to run its course and only an impartial and thorough investigation can ascertain the facts.
00:39Jaziri said trust between Petronas and Petros rests on the expectation of ethical conduct, transparency and mutual respect, urging both companies to maintain open communication channels and establish regular and frank dialogue.
00:53He also called for both corporations to establish confidence-building measures to promote transparency, including through joint committees involving independent experts.
01:04Verified misconduct, he said, should be met with swift and appropriate legal consequences to reassure stakeholders that unethical practices will not be tolerated.
01:15Separately, Jaziri said, while there should be no compromise in obtaining what is due to Sarawak under the Malaysia Agreement 1963,
01:22he said there was a case for Petros to temporarily shift its focus from seeking more control under this agreement.
01:29Jaziri said Petros should reallocate its resources towards harnessing its newly acquired assets through initiatives that bolster operational strength.
01:39He also called for the Sarawak government to look beyond localized benefits and work hand-in-hand with Petronas to benefit the nation at large by aligning state and national aspirations.
