00:00A 4-1 defeat here at Villa Park has ended Newcastle United's sixth match winning run with a shuddering halt.
00:07It was one of those days that Newcastle just nothing went right for them.
00:11Aston Villa were really good to be fair, had lots of really star performers.
00:14They probably had another couple of years going in, Newcastle just didn't really turn up.
00:18From the second that Ollie Watkins' deflector strike went in off Fabian Scher, that was about 33 seconds into the game.
00:24You just sort of knew it wasn't going to be Newcastle's day and that was the way panned out.
00:28They huffed and puffed a little bit. I think there was effort there.
00:30I don't think you can, you know, I don't think a lack of effort was the issue today.
00:35I just think it was, Villa were just a lot better.
00:37Some of the Newcastle's key players weren't added.
00:39Bruno had probably one of his most, you know, his poorest games.
00:42Alexander Ease had barely had a kick.
00:44And yeah, that's sort of the way it goes.
00:46And obviously Aston Villa just for the home crowd.
00:47You did wonder how that defeat against PSG would impact them on Tuesday night when they came here.
00:52But it did impact them in the best way possible.
00:53I think at their point, we've been working for it.
00:55Newcastle would have came here, wanted to sign the crowd within, you know, 33 seconds.
00:59That wasn't achieved.
01:01You know, they were up again.
01:02And as much as Fabian Scher's equaliser was a really good header from him.
01:06It was a bit undeserved, certainly against the runner play.
01:08It was a fantastic ball from Harvey Barnes, to be fair.
01:10He got another assist.
01:12He was probably, he was decent today.
01:14And then Fabian Scher's header was fantastic.
01:16But, you know, you would say Scher did really struggle against Watkins.
01:18He probably could have been set off before that.
01:20I think it would have been harsh sending off, but you've seen them giving.
01:25Yeah, he struggled against Oli Watkins all day.
01:27Watkins was brilliant.
01:27He scored a hat-rick here two years ago, you remember.
01:29He probably could have had a hat-rick today.
01:30We certainly could have.
01:31He hit the bar and paused after he scored.
01:34So, yeah, it was just a disappointing day for Newcastle.
01:36They went in the half-time 1-1.
01:37They would have been really happy with that scoreline.
01:39Far from happy with the performance, but really happy that they went in 1-1.
01:41But, yeah, that was probably the brightest, the peak of the day.
01:44Three second-half goals, finished it off for Aston Villa.
01:48Ian Mattson's strike down the left, that was a brilliant move for him from Villa.
01:53It came to him and he smashed it beyond Pope.
01:55That made it 2-1 and he never thought Newcastle were really going to get back in after that.
01:58And then Villa were able to make some, you know, very big changes.
02:03I think there's an argument to be made about Villa's, you know, financial status.
02:06Whether we don't know that they're current financial status,
02:08but the fact that, you know, they're in a very similar club to Newcastle,
02:12earns slightly less revenue.
02:13You know, some of their signings are making, you know,
02:15being able to bring Marcus Rashford, Marcus Sensu, and I don't get me wrong,
02:18they are on loan, but there'll be a lot of wages on that.
02:19It's a big gamble, you'd think, from the Villa board,
02:21but it seems to have might have paid off.
02:22If they get Champions League qualification, then it's certainly paid off.
02:26But, yeah, their subs made the difference.
02:27I'm going to do an honor, scored.
02:28Dan Burn, unlucky to get an old goal against this.
02:32But, to be honest, it was four.
02:34It could have been five or six.
02:35And I think it probably would have been, if the goals hadn't gone in,
02:37if it didn't go off Dan Burn,
02:38they probably would have gone off.
02:39They took their foot off the gas, really, towards the end.
02:41And, yeah, you know, I think that's a spout summary.
02:44Again, Villa were good, better than Newcastle.
02:46Deservedly better than Newcastle.
02:47Newcastle, you know, paid the price for that.
02:49Now, they've won six in the row before that,
02:51so, of course, they've won six and seven.
02:53You'd have certainly took that as a Newcastle fan.
02:54They're right in the battle for the Champions League qualification.
02:56They're going to be still ahead of Villa tonight,
02:58although that's just two points.
02:59Villa could go ahead of them, again,
03:00when they face Manchester City on Tuesday.
03:02That's a massive match.
03:03Lots of eyes on Tyneside on that game.
03:05And, of course, Nottingham Forest played Tottenham on Monday.
03:07But for Newcastle, I think they'll just go back,
03:09reflect on a disappointing day in the office.
03:11But I don't think that'll change their plans too much.
03:13You know, they've got Ipswich Town on Saturday.
03:14You'd expect them to put up a better performance
03:16and potentially a win there.
03:17So, yeah, I don't think it's back to the drone board
03:19and change tactics.
03:19And I don't think,
03:20I don't know about social media reaction.
03:22I imagine there's probably a slight meltdown in there,
03:23but I hope not,
03:24because I think it's just one of them days.
03:25You know, Jason Tindal's side
03:26just were beaten by a really good team.
03:28You know, Villa are a really good team.
03:29They've matched, you know,
03:31as much as Newcastle have got a good recent record against.
03:33And there's a reason that Villa are doing so well
03:35in the Premier League
03:36and being able to do the Champions League as well.
03:38Unai Emery's a good manager.
03:40Yeah, I think it's just one of them days.
03:42Back to the drone board.
03:43Back to training for Newcastle United.
03:45Don't have to rip up anything.
03:46Don't have to rip.
03:47Just, yeah, prepare for a first time.
03:48One of them days.
03:494-1.
03:50Could have been 5-6.
03:51Not the best day for Newcastle United here at Villa Park.
03:54We've had some shockers over the recent,
03:56you know, modern history.
03:57They've had some good days,
03:58had some bad days,
03:59and that was one you can categorise in the bad days.
04:00Yeah, Newcastle United won.
04:02Aston Villa for a disappointing day for Newcastle United.
