00:00I'm a notary. I got called to do a signing, and it didn't go well.
00:04He had this document. He thrust it at my grandmother. He said that if she didn't sign it, he'd kill my mother.
00:10Who shot him?
00:11I don't know.
00:12Would it surprise me if they conspired to kill him? It wouldn't surprise me at all.
00:17On July 26, 2016, a bitter family feud reaches an explosive breaking point in Applegate, Oregon,
00:24leaving one man dead and investigators scrambling to uncover who pulled the trigger.
00:30As they work to determine if this was a devastating accident or a cold and calculated plot,
00:35the truth emerges with the shocking realization that the entire incident was caught on camera.
00:41The following report is based on official police records,
00:44and most of the footage has never been seen before until now.
00:48Just before 4 p.m., a 911 call reaches Jackson County dispatchers,
00:53but they struggle to get critical information as chaos unfolds at a remote farmhouse.
00:58And I need someone now, and I need an ambulance.
01:01What kind of, what's the problem?
01:04Take your best guess.
01:05Take your best guess.
01:07I can't guess, ma'am. You're there. You tell me what the emergency is.
01:10I didn't see anything. All I can tell you is a gun went off.
01:14You need to tell me what happened.
01:17He's dead. I think he's dead.
01:18Who shot him?
01:20Is somebody coming?
01:21They're on their way.
01:22Who shot him?
01:23I'm a notary. I don't know.
01:25I'm a notary.
01:25I got called to do a signing, and it didn't go well.
01:29I mean, when you stand up here, I'm just nervous about you leaving with that.
01:31Hey, come back, please.
01:32Hey.
01:33No.
01:34I want you to come back here with that.
01:38Oh, I'm sorry.
01:41I'm just worried about her walking around with a gun.
01:43Okay, where's the gun at?
01:45Who has the gun?
01:47I don't know these people.
01:49I know you. Listen to me.
01:50I'm not trying to be upset with you or unreasonable,
01:54but you have to understand the level of this emergency.
01:57Who has the gun, and where is it?
01:59I don't know her name. It's in her hand.
02:02First responders make their way to the scene,
02:04but with an unsecured gun and no ID on the suspect,
02:08they have no idea what situation they're walking into.
02:11As the dispatcher attempts to get help for the unknown victim,
02:15she faces unexpected challenges.
02:17Okay, listen to me.
02:19Are you in a position where you can go help the patient?
02:21Oh, no. I don't see blood.
02:22Oh, he's still alive.
02:23Okay, listen.
02:24We can save his life if you're willing to help him.
02:26Or if you're not willing, then give the phone to somebody that is willing.
02:29Okay, Tully, lay the gun down on the table.
02:33Okay, do you want to talk to them?
02:35They want to know about his condition.
02:38Okay, so this is his sister, Kelly.
02:40Okay.
02:41What?
02:42Okay, listen to me.
02:43Who is the person that shot?
02:45My brother, Shane.
02:46Okay, all right.
02:47Is Shane still breathing?
02:49He's still alive.
02:51Okay.
02:51He was shot in the chest.
02:53And who shot him?
02:55I don't know.
02:56You have no idea who shot him?
02:58That's right.
02:58I have no idea who shot him.
03:00Okay, is there any serious bleeding?
03:02Ma'am?
03:02Okay.
03:03Sitting all over the place.
03:04Okay, is he completely alert?
03:06No, he's nearly dead.
03:07Okay, listen to me.
03:08Ma'am, you need to take a deep breath.
03:10If you want to help your brother, I'm more than willing to help you, but you need to listen.
03:14I don't want to help him.
03:15Why don't you want to help him?
03:17Because he's a crazy meth addict.
03:19Confusion only grows when Kelly hands the phone to someone else.
03:23What did he do that warranted the being shot?
03:25Did he hurt someone?
03:26Was he armed?
03:28No, he was just here at my house.
03:33Okay, did you shoot him, ma'am?
03:35No.
03:36Who shot him?
03:37Anything.
03:38I don't know.
03:40The shooter has yet to be identified.
03:42And with an unidentified suspect still armed, the situation is far too dangerous for paramedics
03:48to approach.
03:49The phone is handed off once again, this time to someone who's willing to help the victim.
03:54It's a chest wound.
03:56Who are you?
03:57I'm just, uh, uh, I live here on the property.
04:01Okay, are you with the patient?
04:03Yes, I'm sitting right over there.
04:04Okay.
04:05Is he awake?
04:06Yeah.
04:07Did you shoot him?
04:09It's a chest.
04:10No mouth.
04:11Okay, listen to me.
04:12I'm going to tell you how to give mouth to mouth.
04:14Are you right there?
04:15I'm here.
04:16Okay, place your hand on his forehead and your other hand under his neck.
04:19Then tilt the head back.
04:21Guys!
04:22Okay.
04:22I'm going to burn this mouth, you know.
04:24The man attempts CPR while waiting on paramedics.
04:27They finally arrived after 20 minutes, but they won't approach until they know the gun
04:32is safely secured.
04:34They can come in.
04:35They can come in and say, I'm right here.
04:37I understand that, sir.
04:39That's their protocol.
04:40I'm going to let this man drive behind him.
04:42Okay, listen, let's not give up.
04:44Just keep doing it over and over, okay?
04:46Oh, can you just, if they're sitting at the gate, can't they come in and do their jobs?
04:50I already told them, sir.
04:5124 years and three wars.
04:53I already told them.
04:54Nobody can be that much of a coward.
04:56I'm right here.
04:57I'll put my lap, my reputation, everything on the line.
05:00I'll show them.
05:00They are strange.
05:01Please come in.
05:02The phone is passed once again back to Kelly, who finally updates the dispatcher on the gun's
05:08location.
05:08I have the gun.
05:10The person who shot the gun does not have the gun.
05:13The gun is hidden away.
05:14Okay, the gun has been secured.
05:16There's no threat here.
05:17Okay.
05:17The gun is secured.
05:19Okay.
05:19She sent them in.
05:20Okay.
05:20I let them know that the gun has been secured.
05:23And where's the female that did the shooting?
05:24Where is she at?
05:25My daughter and she's in here.
05:27Okay.
05:27She's been with me.
05:28Okay.
05:29With the gun secure, first responders finally make their way onto the scene.
05:33But it's too late.
05:3463-year-old Shane Patrick Moore is dead as the result of a single gunshot wound to the chest.
05:41Officers identify the family members present.
05:44Shane's elderly mother, Lori Moore, the owner of the home.
05:48Shane's sister, Kelly.
05:50And Kelly's daughter, 26-year-old Aisling Tucker Moore-Reed.
05:54As Kelly is placed in handcuffs, she questions if her brother Shane is dead, stating, I hope so.
06:01Officers noted in their reports Kelly showed no remorse and made it very clear she was glad he was dead and he needed to stay that way.
06:10Given Kelly's statements during the 911 call and the fact she was seen holding the gun,
06:15suspicions surround her claim that it was Tucker who pulled the trigger.
06:19After Mirandizing Tucker, they begin to question her about what happened.
06:23But it soon becomes clear this family rivalry is more complicated than they ever imagined.
06:30Both Tucker and her mother, Kelly, are known for their work as authors.
06:34Kelly wrote the novel Deadly Medicine with her husband in 1988,
06:38a true crime novel chronicling the life of a serial killer.
06:41Tucker, along with her mother and sister, would later co-author the Amber House Trilogy in 2012,
06:46a series of young adult novels with themes of gothic horror and science fiction.
06:52Despite the success of their books, family members tell investigators that Kelly and Shane would often fight over money,
06:59which led to an incident in 2015 in which Shane allegedly threw a bottle of motor oil through Kelly's screen door,
07:06which struck Tucker in the face.
07:08In a victim statement, Tucker claimed the injuries nearly blinded her
07:12and could have ended her career as a model and actress.
07:15She told investigators that a no-contact order was issued after the incident,
07:20prohibiting Shane from being near her.
07:22Recently, after Lori suffered a heart attack,
07:25Kelly and Tucker temporarily moved into the farmhouse to care for her.
07:29The long-standing tension between them then escalated
07:32when Shane showed up at Lori's house a week before the shooting.
07:35He had this document.
07:37He thrust it at my grandmother.
07:39He said that if she didn't sign it, he'd kill my mother.
07:43And about that time...
07:43Now, is this stuff that you heard him say or is this stuff that your grandmother told her?
07:47This is something nobody knew.
07:49My mother asked her, why would you sign a thing about anyone present?
07:53You know, right after you've been in the hospital, you already have the will.
07:59And that's when my grandmother kind of huddled into herself and said,
08:04he said he would kill you, Kelly, if I didn't sign this.
08:09And if he had done that, Lori's in the house.
08:12According to reports, the document would grant an equal inheritance of the property
08:16if their mother, Lori, passed away.
08:19But according to Tucker, Shane's attempt to get a signature
08:22was in direct violation of his supposed no-contact order.
08:26Okay, so if you wouldn't have been there,
08:29could he have came in and been part of this whole notary thing
08:33and the discussion about that?
08:35Um, if I hadn't been there?
08:39No, not with my mother present.
08:41Okay.
08:41So he's not allowed to leave me around your mom?
08:43Right.
08:43So that is kind of background information I can provide you.
08:50And, um, uh, I'm, I just don't feel like I'm in a good position
08:57to speak about the incident today at all without a clear head
09:05and without a lawyer present.
09:07And I'm sorry about that.
09:08For now, the interview ends, but their time with Tucker is far from over.
09:13Meanwhile, though Tucker has described Shane as threatening and violent,
09:17friends and family adamantly disagree with the characterization.
09:20Has Shane ever been an aggressive or violent person, as far as you know?
09:25I have never witnessed him being aggressive or violent.
09:29Shane did make a statement days prior to this happening that he was afraid that,
09:34quote, he said, I'm afraid Kelly's going to kill me.
09:37I'm afraid she's going to shoot me.
09:39Here's an unsolicited question.
09:41If you were to ask me, would it surprise me if they conspired to kill him?
09:45It wouldn't surprise me at all.
09:46A forensic analysis of the gun returned two fingerprints.
09:50The comparisons to Tucker and Kelly were insufficient to identify
09:53or exclude either of them as the shooter.
09:56The truth of who shot him remains to be seen.
09:59Thankfully, Tucker is ready to speak to detectives once more.
10:03Can you see me?
10:04Sorry about that.
10:07Hi.
10:07No, don't worry.
10:09I just wanted to add more.
10:10Okay.
10:11Since Tucker has previously mentioned an attorney,
10:14detectives read her Miranda rights again.
10:16She explains how she and Kelly reacted to what she believed were Shane's attempts
10:20to force Lori into signing documents against her will.
10:24I kept insisting that we call the police because that's elder abuse.
10:29Right.
10:29Um, and my mother said if we called the police, he would just go berserk.
10:36She was afraid, um, that he would set fire to the house, that he would cause damage, anything
10:43and everything.
10:45So nobody from there called the police?
10:49For the elder abuse, no.
10:51Okay.
10:51Even though we did, um, we did record my grandmother talking about how it had happened on the day of.
10:57We did have a 911 call from there, from that house.
11:04We had a call to our dispatch.
11:06This is a computer-aided dispatch sheet.
11:09On which day?
11:10Today.
11:11That's today's date.
11:12And the time that that call was initiated was 1-44.
11:17Nearly two hours before the incident, Shane dialed 911, his words shedding an alarming new light
11:24on the unfolding story.
11:26I was hoping I could get a sheriff out here at my place.
11:29It's not a real emergency situation.
11:31Okay.
11:32What's going on?
11:33I'm expecting a North Republic to be here at 2 o'clock to 2.30, and I don't want any trouble.
11:38I'm afraid my sister's going to try to stop the North Republic and my witness from going
11:43in and finding papers in front of my mother.
11:45Her kid fired off a gun over there this morning.
11:46And, you know, like they're, I don't know what the hell they're thinking, but I need
11:51this North Republic to get together with my mother, and I don't want any trouble.
11:55The possibility that Tucker fired a gun earlier that morning cements her as a primary suspect
12:00in Shane's fatal shooting, a startling revelation further explained by Shane's roommate, Stacy.
12:07Shane walked over to tell his mother that the notary was not going to be there until noon.
12:11And I don't know what transpired, but Shane came running back to the house, and within
12:18seconds of him hitting the back door, getting through the back door, there was shots fired
12:23off.
12:23How many?
12:24Two.
12:25Okay.
12:25I heard two shots.
12:26And did they come from in the direction of Lori's residence?
12:29Yes.
12:30Okay.
12:31What did Shane say to you about his, after going over to the residence that morning?
12:35He said, quote, the little just fired off a gun.
12:39A deputy with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office contacted Shane for more details, but
12:44ultimately informed him they could not get involved in civil issues without a court order.
12:49Now, Tucker must answer for the shocking claims made by her uncle.
12:53Your uncle called, reporting that you fired a gun on the property today.
13:00Well?
13:00At that, prior to that time.
13:03Well, that's bizarre.
13:05I found a gun that I believed belonged to my grandfather.
13:10I wanted to know if it was loaded.
13:12I took it outside onto the porch, and I fired it.
13:15That was this morning.
13:16Okay.
13:17Was that the gun that was used?
13:18Yes.
13:19Okay.
13:20I gave it to my mother afterwards, saying, I think that this gun, I didn't even know how
13:26to use it.
13:27I, like, it doesn't need to be cocked to shoot, but I thought it did earlier this morning.
13:34So, um.
13:35We were just kind of curious about your grandfather's gun.
13:37You'll be able to see the gun.
13:38Yeah.
13:39Okay.
13:39It wasn't meant to scare him or anything like that?
13:42No, absolutely not.
13:43Okay.
13:43People are always shooting.
13:44You can see my grandmother's.
13:46See, that's important.
13:46That helps right there.
13:48That puts your voice on it.
13:50But let me ask you about, are you a gun person?
13:53No.
13:54All right.
13:54No.
13:55Have you ever shot a gun before this morning in your life?
13:58My friend from Arkansas, when I went to USC, took me to a gun range, and he laughed at
14:03me the whole time.
14:05Okay.
14:05All right.
14:06You don't own any guns.
14:08I don't own guns.
14:09I'm not licensed to carry.
14:12No.
14:12Okay.
14:13So, that kind of raises another question.
14:16What made you go out today?
14:18What was going on in your mind to make you want to test fire that gun today, to make sure
14:23it worked?
14:24I don't, I don't know.
14:26Um, I'm just getting out of my mind for so long.
14:33I just saw this thing.
14:35Though Tucker is admitted to firing the gun earlier in the day, it isn't enough to prove
14:39she later used it to shoot Shane.
14:42Little do they know, Tucker's cell phone was recording when the entire incident occurred,
14:47providing crucial evidence that would later change everything.
14:51For now, Tucker describes the moment she saw Shane approaching the house, just as her mother
14:56Kelly realized what the document was and tore it in half.
15:00As soon as my mom tore up the document, he ran towards the front door, which was unlocked.
15:05Did you see it run?
15:06Yes.
15:06Okay.
15:07And my mom, and I ran, I grabbed, I ran, I, this is the thing.
15:14My mom ran, and I could hear her making noises, and I started screaming, and this is where
15:21it gets hazy for me.
15:22I picked up the gun off the table, because it was on the table, that's where my mother
15:27had put it.
15:29Shane started opening the door and entering the house.
15:31Okay.
15:32And he was banging the door into my mother, and my mother was screaming, and he was screaming,
15:36and I had the gun, and I'm sorry.
15:42It's okay.
15:43Take your tires.
15:49I don't even remember what happened.
15:51I was, like, screaming, and I thought that you had to cock a gun for it to go off.
15:57Did the gun go off?
15:58Yes.
15:59And I thought that it was going to...
16:01Yes.
16:02Okay, so let me ask you this.
16:04Why did you pick up the gun?
16:06There's no wrong or right answer here, Tucker.
16:08It's just, we're trying to figure out...
16:10I was absolutely, absolutely sure he was going to kill my mother.
16:14He told her earlier in the day that he was going to kill her if she messed anything up
16:18for him, and she ripped pieces of paper up right in front of him.
16:21With Tucker admitting she fired the shot that took Shane's life, the question remains whether
16:27her story of defending her mother's life is true or an elaborate deception.
16:32A friend of Shane's would later find it difficult to believe the shooting was anything but planned.
16:37They did the shot.
16:38It wasn't even supposed to be on the property because she filed assault charges prior to that.
16:42If there was a problem there the day before, why was she there with a gun the next day?
16:46Why were they even there?
16:47I mean, your guess is as good as mine.
16:49Yeah, I mean, to me that's still premeditation, period.
16:53Proving her intent, however, would be a significant challenge.
16:56As investigators search for any sign of remorse from Tucker, her mother Kelly's behavior during
17:01the 911 call raises unsettling questions.
17:05Are you sorry this happened to Shane?
17:07Yes, I'm so sorry.
17:09Do you think he deserved it?
17:11I don't think he deserved to be in jail.
17:13Because your mom, your mom made a pretty, pretty...
17:20I remember her screaming, die, die, while he was bleeding out.
17:24And I was...
17:25Die!
17:26Okay.
17:27I was sobbing, I was sobbing.
17:31Do you think your mom had any involvement in this?
17:34You mean...
17:36Like getting it all jacked up, yelling at you, saying to shoot her, shoot him, did you hear
17:42your mom saying...
17:43I don't think my mom told me to shoot him, I don't recall that.
17:47Witnesses from the shooting would later tell investigators they overheard Tucker's state
17:51to Kelly, you told me to do it.
17:54Tucker, however, claims her words were unrelated to the shooting.
17:57What do you remember saying?
17:58Do you remember saying something to the effect of...
18:00You told me I could do it.
18:02You told me...
18:03Watch the...
18:06I was referring to the fact that I saw Shane and that everything happened because I was
18:16right there, which is stupid because my mom was right there and she's the same thing
18:21as...
18:22But at this point, you told me to do it or you told me I could do it or something?
18:26Be there, be present while the will addendum stuff was happening.
18:33In this particular case, what we need to do is clear out all suspicion that this was
18:38something that you shot at because you don't like it.
18:44Right.
18:45Okay.
18:46Um, I wouldn't have...
18:47Can they end all the problems with all the threats and everything else?
18:51Yeah, no, I would never have shot him in front of so many witnesses if it was just a case
18:57of me not liking him.
18:59I would not have done it.
19:01Do you remember pulling the trigger?
19:04I...
19:04I...
19:05No.
19:07Yes.
19:07I don't know.
19:09Okay.
19:12I know that...
19:13Do you think you did anything wrong?
19:15Yeah, I feel...
19:16I feel like I'm going to go to hell.
19:18No.
19:19Detectives leave the room to discuss what they've learned, leaving Tucker on her own.
19:24It isn't long before a sudden meltdown has them returning to check on her.
19:28Huh?
19:40Help, help, help, help.
19:45It's not very easy.
19:46It'll be very easy.
19:47Are you okay?
19:50I can't breathe.
19:51It'll be very easy.
19:52Okay.
19:52I can't breathe.
19:53Take a deep breath.
19:55Detectives allow Tucker to move to another room in an attempt to calm her down.
20:00Unaware the incident was fully caught on camera, Tucker is initially charged with first and
20:04second degree manslaughter.
