00:00Welcome everybody. We appreciate you taking time out of your day. I was just telling Kaylee that a couple of weeks ago when we were in Nashville, one of the things that I think Lana and I are much proud of is we usually are aware of acts or anybody who has never even heard of them.
00:17And the second Kaylee was halfway through her song. Lana and I were like, oh my god, I was not aware of Kaylee is amazing.
00:30So I would be shocked if after what you see today, Lana and I are just a part of the scene walking out of here.
00:37It really is probably, I don't know, I don't want to put any pressure, but probably one of the strongest females, you know, like halfway in the first time.
00:47We're like really excited about getting this thing on. So we're bringing together to Kaylee.
00:59How are you doing? Not too good, huh? You're a little quiet this morning.
01:07Well, my body does not know what to do with all this pollen, but if I'm sniffling on the mic, I'm sorry, but I'm excited to be here.
01:18It's good to be somewhere warm again. We have been all over everywhere that's cold.
01:24So this week is kind of a vacation for us, but I want to start with this song.
01:28I am from a very, very small town in South Georgia, just a few hours from Florida line.
01:34And my mom and daddy are hard work and blue collar folks and nothing.
01:42They started from the ground up and that's how you build the strongest foundations.
01:46And they built that foundation in a single wide with orange shag carpet.
01:51And up on the hill that daddy had bought the property, he built a little shop.
01:57And slowly but surely, they built their business.
02:00And they finally had enough money that they could build the house that mama wanted.
02:04But daddy kept the single wide in the backyard because he said that you remember where you come from.
02:10Well, I had a cousin, Jennifer, that was going into nursing school.
02:14And she moved into that little single wide because she didn't have much money.
02:17And every day I would sneak through the woods about four or five years old.
02:21And I'd sneak back to the single wide that mom and daddy started in.
02:25And I'd lay on that orange shag carpet and watch Jurassic Park with her.
02:28And we would eat pickles and drink Dr. Pepper.
02:31And there is just something about that little tiny moment in my head that I'll never forget those feelings.
02:36Or the feel of the orange shag carpet underneath us.
02:39Or the little tiny teacups that we would drink out of.
02:41But she was the first redhead that ever impacted my life.
02:45And when Natalie Hemby came into a rite one day and said,
02:48I have this title named Redhead.
02:50I was like, well, I got an idea for it.
02:52And this is where we went.
03:03Mama was a hothead. Daddy was a redneck.
03:07Grew up in a single wide when Reagan was president.
03:11Spooning in a twin size newlywed business.
03:15Didn't know they gonna have themselves a little redhead.
03:19Nine months from Valentine's, blamed it on the red wine.
03:27Bought a station wagon, stopped running all them red lights.
03:31Big eyes, big mouth, wild child complex.
03:35They didn't have a clue how to raise a little redhead.
03:39Oh, they got their hands full trying to tame a pistol.
03:46Spit fire freckles at the run of the dead.
03:50Closed high and tied your dead devil.
03:54High hopes raise a little hell when they raise a little redhead.
04:00Livin' with the sunburn, runnin' with the scissors.
04:06Daddy's belt couldn't help simmer down this temper.
04:10Fool in a china shop.
04:12Rose-colored redheads try to run away, but trouble loves a little redhead.
04:18Yeah.
04:22Oh, they got their hands full trying to tame a pistol.
04:26Spit fire freckles at the run of the dead.
04:30Crows high and tied road dead.
04:33Devil high hopes raise a little hell when they raise a little redhead.
04:40No, they got their hands full trying to tame a pistol.
04:48Spit fire freckles like a run of the dead.
04:52Oh, they got their hands full
05:00Tryna tame a pistol
05:01Spitfire records like a run above the dead
05:05Toes high and tight, oh, dead devil
05:08My hopes raise a little hell
05:11When they raise a little redhead
05:14God made the blondes black-haired
05:20And the brunette's devil dropped in
05:23And said, I don't think you're done yet
05:25Let's make a compromise
05:27Make an angel backside
05:29So they chipped in
05:31And made a little redhead
05:33Thank you so much.
05:39We are doing Facebook Live, aren't we?
05:43Yes, okay, streaming on the website.
05:45Well, thank you all so much for checking in and listening.
05:47Thank you for everybody taking the time to listen to a few tunes from us
05:51But it's very exciting for me to get to play some of these songs
05:56I got to write the whole record with friends
05:59I got to co-produce it with one of my best friends
06:02And this album that I've created
06:06With all of the good people in my life
06:08It's pretty much just a group of the growing pains
06:12It's me trying to find myself
06:14And sometimes, you know, falling off the street
06:18It is a winding road
06:21Song is kind of testimony
06:26This song
06:29I
06:32Woke up and I wanted to write
06:37Or saying that day
06:41My kitchen junk drawer
06:45And I said
06:46Well, I'm just going to smoke a cigarette
06:48I never smoke cigarettes
06:49But I wanted to
06:50It was my birthday
06:51You can do whatever you want on your birthday
06:53So
06:54I went to my kitchen drawer
06:56And I started looking for a lighter
06:57And the first thing I found
07:00Was a fake ID
07:01That I moved to Nashville, Tennessee with
07:03That I was 19 years old
07:05Sneaking into bars
07:06Trying to get a gig
07:07As a front man for the bands
07:09Which I did later on
07:10And
07:10I told everyone
07:12I was 23
07:13From Pensacola, Florida
07:14And
07:15That morning I realized
07:17I had caught up with my fake ID
07:19And that was a weird feeling
07:21And right behind it
07:23Instead of the lighter I wanted
07:24I found letters
07:26From the first boy
07:27That ever really taught me
07:28How to love
07:29And loved me
07:30And then broke me
07:31Just as good as he loved me
07:33And
07:34Man, instead of smoking the cigarette I wanted
07:38I just sat on the floor
07:39And I read those letters
07:40And I cried
07:41And
07:42I started thinking
07:43Why is it that I run into you
07:45Every time I want to smoke a cigarette
07:48And
07:50Turned out that
07:52That was exactly what I needed to write
07:54The song I wanted to write that morning
07:56I got up
07:57Dried my face
07:58And
07:59I started writing this
08:00Today I turned 23
08:05Finally
08:06Catching up with my own fake ID
08:10I just found it in the kitchen drawer
08:19Full of sentimental things
08:22That I don't need
08:25But still I'm searching through coupons and keys
08:33Dead flowers and figurines and old letters from you
08:39Damn memories I raffled through
08:43When I'm looking for a lighter
08:46How can you fleet me right back
08:53Spark up a memory and just like that
08:56I'm burning for you so bad, bad, bad
09:00Your love it's a drag, it's a drag, it's a drag
09:04It's just a cheap dreamer's patio
09:08Needing someone to light my smoke in a sea of black
09:14Let the jackets find you
09:17Laying bed on a magnet
09:19Old flame, you're lighting me up
09:22Small talk and sleeping in a dangerous stuff
09:25Small talk and sleeping in a dangerous stuff
09:26And the end of a player fire
09:30When I'm looking for a lighter
09:34I'm looking for a lighter
09:46I can't fleet me right back
09:49Spark up a memory and just like that
09:52I'm burning for you so bad, bad, bad
09:56Your love it's a drag, it's a drag, it's a drag
10:00Just when I think I'm over it
10:03I pick you up just like a bad habit
10:06The kind of habit don't last
10:10Your love it's a drag, it's a drag, it's a drag, it's a drag
10:15It looks like I'm looking for you
10:19But I'm not looking for you
10:23Damn the memories I raffled through
10:27When I'm looking for a lighter
10:32When I'm looking for a lighter
10:39Looks like I should get going
10:48Looks like I should quit smoking
10:53Thank you so much
11:01Well, we can kick it back up
11:04It doesn't have to all be sad
11:05Especially, it's so funny playing these songs back to back
11:10Because they're the two songs that have cigarette in them
11:12And I like to play them back to back
11:15Just to explain, to preface this
11:18My dad hates cigarettes
11:20So, my sister, my older sister
11:23When she moved back home for a little bit
11:25And she started sneaking out to smoke cigarettes
11:28It became this inside joke in the family
11:31It's kind of a southern family thing
11:33Where it's kind of like the hush-hush of it, you know
11:35And she'd go outside with a gardening glove on one hand
11:40And smoke a cigarette in front of a fan
11:42So it would blow the smoke away from her
11:45And anyway, she asked me one time to go to the gas station with her
11:49So we go up to the gas station
11:51And she goes to order some camel crushes
11:54And they've sold out
11:55And I said, dang, Molly
11:56You smoked all the camels in the county last week, I guess
12:00And as I said it, I was like
12:03Ah, smoked all the camels in the county last week
12:06All the camels in the county last week
12:09And there was something in it
12:10That I guess as a writer
12:12You're always desperately trying to seek inspiration in every day
12:16And I wrote it down
12:18And a few weeks later
12:20I go into the room with two great writers in Nashville
12:23Gordy Sampson and Troy Verges
12:25And we start throwing ideas out
12:28And I have this one little line
12:30About the hillbilly side of my family
12:34And anyways, I said, okay, well I got this line
12:38And it's, sister smoked all the camels in the county last week
12:42She cleaned out the 7-Eleven
12:43Sneaking and smelling like nicotine
12:45And Gordy and Troy were like
12:47Tell us more about your family
12:49And anyways, we just started talking about
12:52All the different people in our family
12:54And talked about how my mom loved Tupperware
12:58Always frying chicken in the house
13:00The whole house smells like chicken
13:01And I started telling them about how my daddy
13:04Can't stay awake through an entire football game
13:06But we listen on loud in case he misses something
13:08And slowly but surely
13:12We found that everybody has a family
13:16With all wild, crazy little quirks
13:18And that's exactly why we love them
13:20That's what made you, you
13:21And I thought that this was the perfect song
13:25To be my first single
13:26Because this is my way of opening the door
13:28To my family home
13:29At Welcon and Mignolion
13:30To see the people that made me
13:33And the place that made me
13:36So this is my very first single
13:37Gonna come to y'all at radio
13:39It's all over streaming right now
13:40This is family tree
13:41Sister smoked all the camels
13:45In the county last week
13:46She cleaned out the 7-Eleven
13:48Sneaking in smelling like rickety
13:51Mama's burning chicken
13:54For the Tupperware party tonight
13:56Daddy's asleep in his chair
13:58The TV's blaring the stats
14:00For halftime
14:01Oh, real life can get real funny
14:07Oh, I got more love than we got money
14:11Some sink a little higher
14:14Some will just hang low
14:16A few of us are on fire to get out
14:20And some just wanna stay home
14:22But it don't matter
14:24Cause the roots run deep
14:26And ain't nothing gonna shake our family tree
14:30Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
14:34Whoa, whoa, whoa
14:38Now, Grandma sold a Maytag dryer
14:43To post my uncle's bill
14:45He'll be hanging her laundry
14:48Till there's a snowstorm in hell
14:50Now, me and my cousins
14:52Like to take a Sunday drive
14:55Roll one up before potluck lunch
14:58And get high, screw high
15:00Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
15:03Real life can get real funny
15:05Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
15:07We got more love than we got money
15:10Some sink a little higher
15:12Some will just hang low
15:15A few of us are on fire to get out
15:18And some just wanna stay home
15:21But it don't matter
15:22Cause the roots run deep
15:24And ain't nothing gonna shake our family tree
15:29And ain't nothing gonna shake our family tree
15:35Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
15:40Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
15:42Now, some of us got problems
15:47But everybody's all right
15:49Everybody's all right
15:50Some of us got big plans
15:52And some are just planning on getting by
15:54Some of us got big plans
15:55Some of us got big plans
15:56Some of us got problems
15:57But they love us anyway
15:58But they love us anyway
15:59Through thick and thin hill
16:00And we still can at the end of the day
16:04Some sink a little higher
16:06Some will just hang low
16:08A few of us are on fire to get out
16:12And some just wanna stay home
16:15And it don't matter
16:16Cause the roots run deep
16:18And ain't nothing gonna shake our family tree
16:23And ain't nothing gonna shake our family tree
16:28Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
16:31Real life can get real funny
16:34Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
16:36We got more love than we got
16:38Money
