00:00St. Bodie is here.
00:03Am I saying it right?
00:05Yeah, St. Bodie.
00:06I was so worried about if I was going to say her name wrong
00:09because my biggest pet peeve
00:10is getting people's names wrong.
00:13I hate it.
00:15You said it right.
00:16I get called St. Bodie or St. Booty.
00:19Like, I was talking to this London dude.
00:21He was like, hey, St. Booty.
00:22And I'm like, bruh.
00:25I mean, thank you.
00:28You think I got some ass.
00:30You can do some dope promo with that.
00:32Do you know what I'm saying?
00:33Like, T-shirts.
00:35It's Bodie, not booty.
00:36Or something like that.
00:37That's funny.
00:38Bodie or something like that.
00:40What's your sign?
00:41I'm Aquarius.
00:42Okay, we get along.
00:43You like, I'm a Pisces.
00:45So we're like in the same month.
00:46So we're both kind of weird.
00:47Oh, bet.
00:48Yeah.
00:48Yeah, I'm pretty weird.
00:49I'm not going to lie.
00:50Hold on.
00:51Hold on.
00:52Come here.
00:53My son wants to say hi.
00:54Oh, how are you?
00:55Hello.
00:56What's up, Blair?
00:58Hello.
00:58Hello.
00:58Hello.
00:58Okay, now go sit down.
01:02He just wanted to say hi.
01:05So we're outside in the backyard catching some sun.
01:08That's cool, though.
01:09Your son wants to be involved.
01:10You know what I'm saying?
01:11He understands.
01:11Mom's is, you know, she's popping out here in these streets.
01:15So it's cool.
01:15Yeah, I took him on set once.
01:18He went to one of my video shoots.
01:20And so he did pretty good.
01:21He's interested in it.
01:22So I'll see how it goes.
01:23I bought him a piano.
01:24So we'll see.
01:26No doubt.
01:27As crazy as today has been, it's actually been a blessed day, all pun intended, because the new single dropped today.
01:33Hey, I'm excited.
01:38Big lit.
01:39So, and let me, this is the first time I was going to do, I was actually introduced to your music probably a couple weeks ago.
01:45My man told me, my boy EP was like, yo, you got to check this girl out.
01:48She's on the team.
01:49She's on the roster.
01:50And I think she's got a vibe.
01:51Let me know what you think.
01:52And I'm just like, yeah, let's, after hearing the music, I'm like, yeah, let's definitely set something up.
01:56Definitely dig your whole vibe and what you bring to the table.
02:00Just tell me a little bit about your story, girl.
02:03I am from South Central LA.
02:07I was adopted around 13 and moved to Lancaster.
02:10But most of my, like, most of my, I guess, stories come from me being in South Central.
02:14And then I know when I did Moose to Lancaster, I kind of left for two years and was just, like, in the streets being bad as hell.
02:20So, like, that's where kind of a lot of my stories come from is just kind of, like, dealing with LA shit.
02:26You know what I mean?
02:27Being a dark-skinned girl, looking at it from, you know, because a lot of, I feel like a lot of rappers, they get to, like, when they're men, they get to talk about, like, their side.
02:34But no one really talks about, like, well, what about that little black girl who liked to skateboard?
02:38You know what I mean?
02:39Damn.
02:40Who was awkward, who still was with the shits, but still kind of corny.
02:43You know what I mean?
02:44So, I kind of, I dealt with all that growing up.
02:46That's where, that's my, my, I guess, my upbringing.
02:50And all due respect to all the female rappers that are, you know, doing their thing and in their bag right now.
02:54I think the game is missing somebody with that style, your style.
02:59I mean, I want to agree, don't want to agree, because I'm like, I don't know who going to be, you know what I mean?
03:05Yeah.
03:05I'm like, I'm not even trying to be in a drama list.
03:08But, I mean, I feel like right now everyone's kind of talking about, like, the more secular domineering situations.
03:14I'm more coming from, like, I stand up for myself.
03:18So, it's just like, like, I did Go Revolver before I did Bless, and Go Revolver is about me taking my power back.
03:23Bless is about me getting a bag, not being down about the bad shit that happens in my life.
03:28And, like, instead of, like, you know, I'm a thick, I'm a thick bitch, you know what I mean?
03:31Like, I'm a cute girl, but at the end of the day, I don't feel like my mind is way more attractive than my body.
03:36Like, I don't, I can get old, and this shit got to work.
03:39You know what I mean?
03:41Facts.
03:41I totally agree with that.
03:43Getting on the Bless record, you start off the record by your man going, you know, smashing the next door neighbor.
03:50Like, whoa.
03:52Does this come from real quick experience?
03:52Which has happened to me on more than one occasion.
03:55This has happened?
03:56More than one occasion.
03:59More than one occasion.
04:00Man, I remember I had one incident where a dude called me, and actually the girl called me while they was in the room.
04:07They was at, like, Ramada or some shit in the hotel, and she called me, like, yeah, I'm with y'all niggas, yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:13And he's like, yeah, I'm with so-and-so, and then a week later, baby, I'm so sorry.
04:16I was high off Molly.
04:18I didn't mean to do it.
04:20And I'm like, yo, you a dub.
04:22Wow, man.
04:23That's crazy.
04:24That period, I just decided, I was just like, yo, I'm not about to let this small stuff get to me.
04:28You put it in your music, and you made a dope single out of it, so.
04:31That part, give me paid.
04:32What we doing?
04:34For real.
04:35Tell them thanks.
04:36Thanks, but, you know what I mean?
04:38You all have it.
04:38Thank you for the experience.
04:39Yeah.
04:39So, tell me, too, like, I was reading also that, you know, you've also worked with, I mean, Beyonce, Kiana, Lede, who else?
04:50Lecrae?
04:52I did a record.
04:53I wrote the Lecrae record that just came out.
04:55I don't know what they called it, but I wrote it before it got re-sang, and then I did not work with Beyonce personally.
05:03I don't know why they keep putting that shit in there.
05:05Yeah, I was curious.
05:06I was curious, you know.
05:07I'm around Burgundy.
05:08I keep reading what I be saying.
05:09I see what I read.
05:10I read what I see.
05:11Yeah, that part, you know what I mean?
05:12I was in her camp, and so it was like she personally, like, heard one of my records that I wrote called Blessed.
05:18Before, it is what it is now, and she just wanted me a part of some of the stuff that she did, but I did not get a chance to really be blessed with her as much as, like, one-on-one time all the time.
05:27You know what I mean?
05:28And then, Kiana Lede, we worked with her.
05:31I know we were working on Rihanna's project.
05:32I did some stuff for Jaden Smith, and yeah.
05:37I mean, still, that's dope.
05:39I mean, at the end of the day, I mean, being at a Beyonce camp is cool, too.
05:43Let me ask you something about these camps, because I was talking to St. John probably.
05:47Oh, I love him.
05:48If you know him, like, come on, tell him that.
05:50I love him.
05:50That's my dog.
05:51Like, yeah, yeah.
05:53I let him know I saw you, you know what I mean?
05:56But tell me about these camps, because he was telling me a few months ago about how he was at a Rihanna camp, and this is like, you know, they're just out here penning stuff up, and, you know, with maybe the opportunity to sit down in the studio and work with them.
06:10So break it down to me how these camps work out.
06:12I mean, like, they, they, the A&R, whomever is, like, who scouted you, or however the record got to them, they'll end up hitting you up, and then, like, they'll have their private locations, and then you just kind of, like, go in there, and you just write your heart out.
06:28You need to work with other people.
06:29If you're the kind of person that doesn't like to write with other people, they'll just put you in your own room, and you just pen as much as you want to.
06:34It's super simple.
06:35You just go in there and make music, and cross your fingers.
06:37I feel like it's a sweatshop full of, like, great songwriters, just, like, penning stuff for, like, artists in the world.
06:42I didn't say nothing.
06:43You said that.
06:43I'm just saying, like, hey, that's just, like, the image I have in my head.
06:48I feel like everybody's just in the corner somewhere, like, yo, you better pen something nice.
06:51Like, but whatever.
06:53It is a little, it's a, it's a little, like, oh, fuck, I hope I get this place.
06:57It is a little bit, like, oh, God, please, God, please, a line of stars for me right now, like.
07:04That's so funny.
07:05So, what else are you into?
07:06I mean, I know you talked about, are you into skating?
07:08You were mentioning, like, you know, where's the skater chick, you know, image being held in, like, the rap game?
07:14So, I can still skate.
07:15I haven't skated in a while.
07:17I'm not going to even sit here and cap on that.
07:19But I'm, like, anime.
07:21I play a lot of, like, PS4.
07:23I'm a gamer.
07:24I read.
07:25I'm kind of very, like, solo duddy, like, solo dolo, like, cutty type of vibe.
07:29I don't have a lot of friends.
07:30But I'm more into reading anime and PlayStation.
07:34Did you preorder your PS5?
07:36I did not.
07:37I'm waiting.
07:37I'm not about to deal with y'all.
07:40I refuse.
07:41I'm not dealing with it, man.
07:42I'm definitely not dealing with it.
07:43Because I'm, like, dude, like, no, I'm going to just wait, like, six months and then get it.
07:47I was actually talking to J.O. about this.
07:49And me and J.O. both agreed, like, let's just wait six months.
07:52Yeah, it's going to be, it's going to be pretty intense.
07:54I know, but I got friends that play Xbox and they were losing it after the preorders for that went sour.
08:01Man, it's war out here.
08:04For these PS4s, it's war, yo.
08:07So how have you maintained the creative process in putting out music during these COVID-19 times?
08:14I don't know what phase Callie's on right now, but how have you pushed through?
08:18I'm trying to find shit to get into.
08:22That's it.
08:23Like, literally trying to find sessions.
08:25Can't go out nowhere.
08:26Can't go to math.
08:27Like, I'm a super kid.
08:28So I love, like, Dave and Busters.
08:31I like skating.
08:32I fucking, like, go into museums and shit.
08:34You know what I mean?
08:35So it's like, I can't do that no more.
08:37So I just say to my friends and be like, yo, let's just start something.
08:39Let's just work on something.
08:40Literally, this is probably the most self-reflective time I've ever had in my life.
08:44Like, I know way more about myself than I did last year.
08:47No cap.
08:48I feel the same way.
08:49Like, this is, it's been an interesting year.
08:51But also, you know, the self-reflection definitely played a part, you know, plays a part in, you know, kind of being home and having nothing to do.
08:58Niggas is bored.
08:59Look at your life like, yo, damn, I really need to change some shit up.
09:03Like, I'm kind of lame over here.
09:05Like, I got to really start rearranging some things in life right now.
09:09But St. Bodie, listen, you got the Blessed record out.
09:13You've also had, what, the Gold Revolver record out?
09:16Mm-hmm.
09:17Any project on the way, EP, that you're working on?
09:21October.
09:22Look for mid-October.
09:23The album Mad World is going to come out.
09:25And then I'm working on two EPs right now.
09:27So by January, I'm going to hit y'all with two EPs.
09:31I'm going to hit y'all with the album and then two EPs.
09:33I'm coming.
09:35That's dope.
09:35You really going balls to the wall with it, which I love.
09:39You know, making everybody in the face with some good content,
09:42some good music.
09:44Now, you know, you being on the team, the Dev Jam squad.
09:47Also, you signed a publishing deal recently as well.
09:51I know Kanye's on the team.
09:52He's had some crazy, you know, we went on his rant about the whole
09:56publishing thing.
09:57How important is, you know, this publishing thing?
10:00Like, for somebody that probably doesn't understand what the hell
10:03he's talking about.
10:03I mean, I don't know.
10:09I hear Kanye, but I guess I just don't want to get in it.
10:13You know what I mean?
10:13We all, Kanye West is like a fucking, like, I actually look up to him,
10:18but I don't agree with everything he'd be talking about.
10:21But I just want to see him do it.
10:23Like, if you're going to gas, let me see you do it.
10:25Because you actually, you know what I mean?
10:26Like, gas, do it.
10:29All right, cool.
10:30We would like our publishing.
10:31You know what I mean?
10:32Like, do it.
10:35Respect, respect.
10:36So are you going to be voting and all that coming this election?
10:40I know things definitely need to change out here in these streets.
10:43Are you involved?
10:44I am.
10:45Yeah.
10:45My whole family, we vote for the same people.
10:47I'm not telling y'all who I voted for.
10:49Hey, we don't tell y'all, no judgment.
10:51Yeah, no judgment here.
10:52No, fuck, fuck Trump.
10:54I'm sorry.
10:54Fuck Trump.
10:55Whoever, fuck Trump.
10:57Home girl could have made, yo, tell her to send another letter.
11:02Put the poison in it.
11:03Go right ahead, girl.
11:04You ain't trying harder than that shit.
11:07Legit.
11:07Well, St. Bodie, I appreciate you taking the time out.
11:10Blessed is the record.
11:11Also, tap in with Go Revolver.
11:12Can't wait for the project to come out mid-October, you said?
11:16Mid-October.
11:17Copy.
11:17You got a name for it?
11:19Mad World.
11:20Mad World.
11:21There you go.
11:21Look forward to it.
11:22Congrats on everything that's going on.
11:23And stay up.
11:25All right.
11:25I appreciate you.
11:26Thank you so much, brother.
11:26I need to grab your PSN, too, so we can get it in on the PS5.
11:30St. Bodie.
11:31Feel me?
11:32All right.
11:33S-A-I-N-T-B-O-D-H-I.
11:35All right.
11:35Copy that.
11:36I'm going to come find you.
11:37All right, bro.
11:38All right, love.
11:39Let's go.
