00:00so uh andy black of black bell brides how are you doing i'm doing well uh yeah excited to to be
00:10doing these acoustic shows it's a lot of fun so far that's awesome to hear and uh let me just
00:15start by saying you're a very busy dude like you're super inspirational for all of us who may
00:19have been like a little lacking during this pandemic like i've got there are projects i
00:24definitely want to talk about but man you are you keep busy that's for sure i think it's just an
00:29necessity you know during this year you get to the point where you're like i gotta i gotta do
00:33something and i actually got really lucky that a lot of things that i had been working on for the
00:36past couple years kind of all came together at the same time so in the early part of the pandemic i
00:42was able to kind of like line this stuff up but yeah i mean it's uh i also i think part of it's
00:47just keeping me from going crazy just having stuff to do you know what i mean yeah yeah i've definitely
00:52had to find like home projects and things to work on i bought a basketball hoop when the pandemic
00:56started just to like shoot my driveway so uh well the first thing obviously black veil brides
01:01uh this is the band's first acoustic tour or as you guys are kind of calling it a coos tour
01:07uh yeah we combine the words i love it there isn't that genius i love it i love it that's fantastic so
01:13um so i guess the the big thing is is not only is it the first acoustic tour but i'm assuming it's the
01:19first virtual tour so i guess the prep and uh mentally going into this tour as opposed to
01:26a live tour you know what did what did you guys do differently and and how is this going to be
01:30different obviously other than being acoustic yeah i mean this was the first time that we had the
01:35opportunity to to kind of you know i mean it's not in the sense that anybody can watch it because
01:40they're available uh around the world but to be able to for the first time in it over a year
01:45sit down and go today we're doing a show for you know whatever market that we're in and uh it is i
01:53would say you know to be able to step out on stage and say hello detroit you know what i mean like that's
01:58a that's a very exciting thing even though you know for us we're doing it in a situation where we're not
02:04able to to go on the road so this just seemed like the best case and yeah the prep work was it was
02:09actually a lot of fun to go to our normal rehearsal space where we've rehearsed for years to put the set
02:15list together to rehearse you know i mean it felt it's sort of funny because for my entire adult
02:20life that's what i've been doing nine months of the year and i'm used to that but for all of us it was
02:26kind of a fun return to okay we're doing different set lists on different days and you know all that
02:31kind of stuff but just exciting for us as musicians to get to step back into that uh at least in some
02:36capacity and then we've never done acoustic sets before in our whole career so it was a lot of fun to
02:42um reimagine these songs in a way and figure out how to arrange them in a way that would work for
02:46the acoustic setting and yeah that's what i wanted to to ask because you guys you know and acoustic with
02:53rock and roll it can either work or it it doesn't and there's bands that just don't do acoustic right
02:58so uh you guys you know rock and roll um so the process of making these songs acoustic like you said
03:06like that was a lot of fun but um i imagine there was a lot of time spent on figuring out like
03:11maybe there's some songs that don't work acoustically we probably can't play this one
03:14well i'll say this the secret weapon to all of it for us was uh lonnie eagleton our bass player
03:20because he's uh a talented guitar player as well one of the big things for us is that you have
03:24jake and jinx are such incredible lead players and so much of our music is based on this um you know
03:31heavily guitar oriented lead oriented music sometimes that doesn't always translate to an acoustic
03:36setting because when you have leads playing the bottom drops out there's nothing to carry the
03:40rhythm so the fact that we have lonnie in the band who can play those rhythms and kind of keep that
03:45you know the the meat of the song so to speak going when those leads happen it really fills out the
03:51sound and it made it so right away when we sat down to rehearse we're like this is going to work
03:55because you know three guitars is kind of what you need to make this happen um but yeah i mean also
04:00just to have it's it's a lot of fun it's almost fun for me because of anybody in the band i would say
04:08that i i am i have the least i certainly have the least ability when it comes to instruments but i'm
04:12just in such awe at the rest of my band members and to be able to have cc on this cajon with brushes
04:19and a kick pedal and all these little things you know making his own creating his own drum kit out of
04:24little bits and pieces and then to look over and see jinx playing the violin like just all the
04:29multi-instrumentalists in the band it's just incredible and uh i think this is a really great
04:33opportunity to kind of show that off yeah it's going to be it's going to be awesome i'm super
04:37excited for the show and of course you guys have a new album the phantom tomorrow coming out to be
04:43determined is there any insight on uh when the when is the album going to drop i'll say this when this
04:49acoustic tour is done that will be the next thing that everybody hears about okay all right sooner than
04:55later i guess with these things it was coming very very soon and in fact there's we've done a bunch
04:59of stuff over the last couple weeks that uh in preparation of that but i'll say this the the
05:04record is done mixed mastered artwork is done release date is set it's just time for us to to get it all
05:10the you know the machine ramped up to to release are you guys going to play any other new songs other
05:16than scarlet cross during the uh acoustic tour or do we have to wait to hear the new i think you got
05:20to wait because we want the proper reveal for it so we did it we discussed it and we're like nah let's wait
05:24until you know the next single with the video and everything comes out so we're focusing on
05:28scarlet cross right now and and we've been so lucky that you know stations like you guys that have been
05:32playing the song you know for us it's just a dream come true to have a song that this far into the
05:38band's career is connecting with people in a way that you know it's just it's really humbling as you
05:43as you said like being in this pandemic here and just none of us knowing what the heck's going to
05:47happen and what do you do from day to day and um we've been lucky to be able to stay consistent
05:51with working and doing things and so um yeah it's just it's it's a wonderful feeling and uh again
05:57thank you for playing scarlet cross absolutely yeah it's a it's a killer song we've got a lot of
06:01great uh feedback from it so definitely excited glad to hear it yes um and so i gotta move on because i
06:08know we don't have a ton of time but i gotta move on to your one of your other one of your other
06:12projects uh paradise city the show which is now streaming on amazon prime i haven't watched it yet
06:17i'm super excited though um and i actually i talked to uh ben bruce of asking alexandria who's
06:23also on the show we talked um like mid last year when everyone was really like locked down and we
06:28were just doing all these instagram live things and uh he was so geeked about this show and about
06:34acting and doing all of that and um you were in american satan the movie that kind of like preluded
06:40the tv show and so um i guess it was interesting talking to him but i want to know from you like
06:47the difference between the concert stage and the acting stage right and you know mentally going from
06:53from one to the other and you know for you because you are very talented and have a lot of things going
06:59on like how does that work for you um i mean i would say that for me like we we kind of joke that
07:07and ben and i would joke about this when we did american satan we would always say that the bar
07:12was so low for us with the rest of like the crew and everything because you show up and we were the
07:16two rock guys and we're on set and there's all these actors and professionals who have done this
07:21before and i think there was a certain expectation that we were going to show up and just blow it
07:25because we were these rock guys who didn't know what we were doing and you know we both took it very
07:29seriously knew our lines tried our hardest you know and i know for me i took as many acting lessons as i
07:34could prior to it i had some experience when i was younger um you know i did commercial work and
07:39plays and stuff like that but nothing on that level so i really wanted to do a good job and when we
07:43showed up and did a decent job everybody was like wow they know their lines and then when we went in
07:48to do the show we would joke that like now that like that bar is gone everyone just expects us to be
07:52you know up to par with everybody else and i it was a lot of fun to rise to that challenge i mean
07:56the distinction is like when you're when you're in a rock band on stage the art form and everything like
08:03you can you can change stuff if you want to change a song out you want to change what you say all that
08:07kind of stuff like there's there's a lot more um latitude when it comes to the ability to change
08:11stuff but in a show you know i i didn't write the script i i'm i'm i'm trying to create my own
08:18variation of a character that's on the page and so you really try to apply your own personality
08:22traits and your own character choices but you got to stay within what the vision of the director and
08:26the writers are so um in our case writer and director ash alvinson so you know he gives us a lot of
08:31leeway as actors to be able to make the characters what we want to make them but at the end of the
08:36day you're you're a piece of an ensemble that is someone else's vision and you're doing your best to
08:43to try to convey the emotions that they wanted to have when they wrote the script so um they're very
08:48different ways of of being an entertainer uh and i would say that obviously music is is my number one
08:54passion in my life but i i can't tell you how incredibly exciting and cool just getting this
08:59opportunity to do this is and to get to say that i'm a lead actor in a television series it's just
09:05i mean it's it's my and it all goes down to ash alvinson and smarian for giving me this shot and
09:09i can't thank them enough because you know i get to see like my faces on billboards around la right
09:15now like you know what i mean like it's just that's awesome yeah for me i'm a kid from the
09:19midwest you know like to to be out here and to see all that stuff like it's it's an incredible thing
09:24and so um yeah i mean it's hard to answer the question of like what what the distinctions are
09:28what's better it's just i just feel lucky that i get to do both of these things well congratulations
09:33i'm i'm super pumped for the show i love the idea of a rock band and you know the dark side of
09:39of hollywood and and all of that so i think it's going to be great uh you're also going to be voicing
09:44batman from what i've heard in a new animated series um so that's pretty cool like voice work and
09:49that's totally different than both of those other things yeah i was it was about a week into the the
09:55last year about a week into the like the lockdown and i was kind of figuring out what what was going
09:59to happen our tour had been postponed it was kind of that weird you remember like when there was that
10:04like we're all floating period where no one knew what what's going to be open what's not going to be
10:08open and i got a call just out of the blue from uh tyler bates the composer and obviously he's
10:14a multi-instrumentalist and and has composed every great movie you've ever seen like what just
10:20top tier composer and songwriter and producer and so uh he i got a call from him saying i'm putting
10:26together this project that's like a rock and roll take on these dc characters and would you like to
10:31be the voice of that and i think at the time he wasn't even aware of like you know you can see all
10:37behind me but like the level of fandom that i had for the character and uh it was just so much fun
10:43i got to go in and every week the scripts were you know put in front of me and i'd get to read it and
10:49do my best batman voice and then i got to and i'm not sure when it will be released but i got to do a
10:54song kind of in character uh with maria brink from in this moment we did a song together for the
10:59soundtrack and um yeah it's it's uh it is a dream come true and it looks like you know if everything
11:06goes well i might have an opportunity to reprise the character in a new project that they're working on so
11:11um can't really no details on that yet but yeah it's just uh it's for me just being such a fan of
11:17of comic books and that character in particular like just bucket list stuff you know like i just i i have
11:23to pinch myself because to be in this position and and have the the kind of luck and blessings that
11:29i've been given this is uh it's pretty it's pretty damn incredible well and like i said it's uh it's very
11:34inspirational because i think uh when i looked i think we're right around the same age and i know like
11:39our age group like this pandemic for everyone is something that none of us have dealt with um but
11:45for us like we're like you know young adults you know like we're trying to figure it out and do it
11:49on our own and not call mom and dad every day like help me and so to see you know see someone um be
11:55successful and following their dreams like for me it's like that's awesome like okay get get your ass
12:00out of bed go do something even if it's small like be be a little bit productive today so um so i think
12:07that i always like to say like i think you know for me i i dropped out of high school and started
12:11touring when i was you know just freshly turned 18 and so and i'd start touring earlier than that but
12:16i kind of put this boulder on my back at the top of a big hill at a very early age and i think at that
12:21age i didn't even realize kind of the strain i was about to put on my life which is there is you
12:26have no other options you know what i mean like you have to you have to do everything you can and
12:30hustle and work and you know it's a double-edged sword in some ways putting yourself in the
12:35capacity where you don't have other options is obviously not advisable but in this line of work
12:42and in the in the idea of like going for your dreams i have to advocate for it to a certain degree
12:47because if you want to get something you almost have to put yourself in a position where there's no
12:53choice but to do it and obviously there's luck and there's circumstance and there's a lot of things
12:58having an incredibly supportive family being in a great situation where people around me have
13:02helped prop me up but at the end of the day the tenacity when you haven't when your back is against
13:07the wall and you have no other options like that's the place you almost have to be to get stuff done
13:11and so i think a lot of people were kind of put in that position for the first time this year
13:15and you know you're seeing the people who are rising out of that and the people who who aren't and
13:20i think if if you can be in a position where it seems like all hope is lost and you're ready just
13:25to fight for what you want um you can get a lot of cool stuff done absolutely absolutely i think that's um
13:31that's a that's a great great kind of i'm gonna put that in a quote when i write the article for
13:36okay and then one other thing that i i i'm a huge sports fan and so uh you are at least a football fan
13:46and like you said you're from midwest so you're from cincinnati you're a bangles fan and i'm a lions
13:52fan so um we don't cross paths too many times but uh you also are we are sister franchises in in
13:59irrelevancy uh both of our teams are are the the the teams that are not the worst always but but
14:07never quite relevant enough to matter to other teams like and you guys have like the equivalent
14:11in your in your uh division you've got the packers for us it's the stealers these like legacy teams
14:17that everybody thinks are the best uh so i i've always liked the lines i have some friends from
14:22detroit who are lions fans and i always feel like a kinship of like we get each other we know we know
14:26what it's yeah like it's uh i feel your brother like it's it's never good for us let's put it that
14:31way it's never good but so that's awesome so you do like what so what you you like broadcast the games
14:37like i didn't get a full a whole lot of details but i know you're on the station that carries the the
14:43bangles yes i do the pre-game shows in cincinnati uh for the local uh iheart affiliate there wbn and i i do
14:52um i do in my life i've been involved in various capacities with different sports stuff i mean
14:58growing up it was just a big part of my life it was rock and roll and sports and i i that all comes
15:02down to my dad we would go to season tickets to the reds and the bangles and everything in cincinnati
15:08and so i just grew up with that part of my life in fact when we're done with uh this call my next call
15:13is for a major league baseball season preview and predictions show so that's my next thing okay so you've
15:20got so you have other things on the agenda for today um well that's awesome like i like i said
15:25i'm a big sports fan and so uh as of course we are in the middle of the big ncaa tournament
15:31i have to ask you i don't know do you follow basketball are you following the tournament
15:35no well usually i'll you know uc is my parents alma mater uh in cincinnati but that neither uc or
15:43xavier are in it this year so i kind of don't have much interest but i'm interested to see uh how all of
15:48this like you know i guess we're all excited about loyola and like the bracket busters and
15:53everything so it's always cool to see those like cinderella story things yeah so while you have
15:58on the university of michigan uh both the men's and women's teams made it to the uh to the next
16:03round they're playing in sweet 16 so that's like super exciting so for me you know i got to root for
16:07the home team but like you said like orville roberts took out ohio state i don't know if you're an
16:13ohio state fan but like i'm not i mean i have family who went there but i'm not i'm not necessarily an
16:17state guy but i saw that that was pretty crazy but now you've now given me a horse in the race i'll
16:22be a u of m fan for the rest okay all right well that's that's much appreciated we're gonna need
16:27it i've got a buddy here at the station who's like a huge u of m fan like he stresses out he can't
16:31talk to anybody during the games i think he kicked the couch at one time so uh that's me that's me with
16:36bengals games and uh you know i change my jersey at halftime if we're not winning like there's i do all
16:42the stuff i love that as like as lions fans like i said like we we get it man like we've got like
16:48i'll turn it off i'll be like oh they're doing too good i gotta shut the game off because clearly i'm
16:52gonna i'm gonna bring something bad so there was a game in the 2015 season and it's it's regarded as
16:58one of the most like incredible comebacks that the bengals have ever had and it's one of those games
17:01that like it's you know uh randomly nfl network will air these games after the fact right and uh we
17:09were in brazil on tour and i had paid all this money to have the service so i could watch the
17:14game on my laptop and this is kind of difficult wi-fi connection and everything we were losing
17:19big to the seahawks and i decided that i was gonna put my laptop in the main room of the hotel and i was
17:25gonna stay in the bathroom and not watch it and when i did that they scored immediately and then i was
17:32like oh no like i have to stay in here now and so then they scored again and i could hear it in
17:39the other room and but it's the tv broadcast so it's not like play by play so i'm just hearing
17:43like bits and pieces and i i stayed in that bathroom this is crazy by the way you're still
17:49in the bathroom right now is what you're telling me yeah it's crazy that i'm even sharing this
17:53because it's it's insane right but i i stayed in the bathroom for the entire rest of the game and
17:58we came back and won in overtime and i was like i made the right call clearly that was me
18:02clearly clearly you had something to do with that um well that's that's awesome so i'll uh since
18:08we're in different conferences this year coming up i know the lions aren't going to be great so i'll
18:12i'll put my hat in the ring for the bangles and i think we play you guys this year this year is uh
18:16the year that we play the the nfc north so uh we can we can we can finally we can decide who the
18:23more relevant franchise is right oh my god no kidding uh well andy you're you're fantastic super
18:28excited for this um this this virtual acoustic concert that you guys are doing um real quick i do want
18:35to mention that you have an autobiography as well uh they don't need to understand which is out so
18:39just another one of your projects obviously we don't have a ton of time to talk about it but
18:42uh you've got a book you've got tv you've got comics and a rock band so thank you for being uh
18:48such a great interview and a great conversationalist and a great inspiration for all of us in the rock
18:54community i think you're pretty awesome so uh i think you're too kind now my ego is going to be
18:58way too big after i get off this call it's too much that was very wonderful to hear thank you
19:03you're well you're welcome we'll wait till the reviews come out on paradise study no i'm just
19:06kidding fair enough all right i'm joking um well thank you so much um good luck with the acoustic
19:13tour looking forward to the new album the phantom tomorrow and uh hopefully we'll see you here in

26:54We're going to do another one for you right now
26:57This is actually originally by Billy Idol
26:59It's a cover song
27:00It's called Rebel Yell
27:02And it goes like this
27:04And it goes like this
27:04And it goes like this
27:05Can I ask you maybe I'd be helping you with your heart
27:07But I can't believe it
27:07So I know we're going to be there
27:08If the one you loveえ
27:09I'll be there
27:10And it goes like this
27:11You'll be there
27:11If you're feeling alone
27:12Yeah, you're afraid
27:13Well, I'll be there
27:14That you're feeling alone
27:15For what is left unsaid
27:15That you're either
27:15I'll be there
27:15For the room ugh
27:17That you're feeling alone
27:18That you're feeling
27:18Yeah, that you can't?
27:19For all MCs
27:32Last night a little dancer came dancing to my door
27:42Last night a little angel came popping on my floor
27:48She said, come on baby, I've got a license for love
27:54And if it expires, pray hell from above
28:00Because in the midnight hour she cried, more, more, more
28:07With a rebel yell, she cried, more, more, more
28:13And in the midnight hour, baby, more, more, more
28:19With a rebel yell, she cried, more, more, more, more, more
28:30She don't like savory, she won't sit and beg
28:38But when I'm tired and lonely, she's near to me
28:43I'll say, what set you free, what brought you to me, baby
28:49And what set you free, I need you here by me
28:55Because in the midnight hour she cried, more, more, more
29:02With a rebel yell, she cried, more, more, more
29:08And in the midnight hour, baby, more, more, more
29:15With a rebel yell, she cried, more, more, more
29:21He lives in his own heaven
29:28Collects it to go from a 7-Eleven
29:34And well, he's out all night to collect to fail
29:40Just so long, just so long, it's always up his head
29:46With you, baby
29:57A million times with you
30:02And I dried your tears of pain, baby
30:09A million times with you
30:14And I'd sell my soul for you, baby
30:21For money to burn with you
30:27And I'd give you all and have none, baby
30:34Just a, just a, just a, just a, just a
30:38Have you here by me
30:40Because in the midnight hour
30:43She cried, more, more, more
30:46With a rebel yell, she cried, more, more, more
30:52And in the midnight hour, baby
30:56More, more, more
30:59With a rebel yell, she cried, more, more, more
31:05More, more, more, more
31:06Oh yeah, little angel
31:12You want more
31:16More, more, more, more, more
31:18Oh yeah, little baby
31:25You want more
31:28More, more, more, more, more
31:31Thank you very much
31:39Detroit!
31:45It's been a while since we played Detroit

31:56Is that a spot?
31:57Harpo's?
31:58Oh yeah
31:58Yeah

32:00We played other places there
32:02I think we played some, like, club
32:03First started touring
32:05Like, IROC or something
32:07Is that a place?
32:08Is that a spot?
32:10See?
32:11We have slight memories
32:12Detroit's always been
32:14One of our favorite places to play
32:15Obviously Detroit Rock City
32:17Incredible rock community there
32:18And, uh, yeah
32:19Thank you so much
32:20For having us do this
32:21Thank you to WRIF
32:23And, uh, we got one more
32:24For you guys today
32:25This one's called
32:26In the End
32:27It goes like this
32:27In the end
32:32As you fade into the night
32:36Who will tell
32:40The story of your life
32:43In the end
32:53As my soul's lead to rest
32:56What is left of my body
32:58Or am I just
33:00A shell
33:02And, uh, yeah
33:03And I have fought
33:07And with flesh and blood
33:10I commanded
33:11And I made
33:12Through it all
33:14I have given my heart
33:17For a moment of glory
33:19In the end
33:21In the end
33:23In the end
33:24As you fade into the night
33:27Who will tell
33:31The story of your life
33:34And who will remember
33:38Your last goodbye
33:41Cause it's the end
33:45And I'm not afraid
33:47I'm not afraid
33:49To die
33:50Born a saint
33:59But with every sin
34:01I still wanna be holy
34:04And I will live
34:06Again
34:08And who we are
34:14Isn't how we live
34:16We are more than our bodies
34:18And if I fall
34:21I will rise back up
34:23And relive my glory
34:25In the end
34:28As you fade into the night
34:32Who will tell
34:36The story of your life
34:39And who will remember
34:43Your last goodbye
34:46Cause it's the end
34:50And I'm not afraid
34:52I'm not afraid
34:54To die
34:55No, I'm not afraid
35:25No, I'm not afraid
35:27No, I'm not afraid
35:29To die
35:30And I'm not afraid
35:34No, I'm not afraid
35:37To die
35:38Thank you very much Detroit
35:40We'll see you next time
