00:00now Tottenham Hotspur are heading into a pivotal summer with big decisions looming both on and
00:08off the pitch with uncertainty surrounding the future of Ange Postacoglu the club could be set
00:14for major change and that's before factoring in a busy transfer window Spurs have shown moments
00:21of progress this season but overall it's been far beyond doubt that it hasn't been good enough
00:27from Ange Postacoglu and his side throughout the campaign the squad needs to step up and the squad
00:34also needs reinforcing several first team players could move on and Spurs will likely look to add
00:40quality in defence midfield and attack whether Postacoglu stays or a new manager comes in the
00:45club will need to recruit with a clear identity in mind one that suits their long-term ambitions
00:51not just short-term fixes I spoke to Spurs expert James Trenbath to get his take
00:58on how the club might approach the summer window the importance of making early moves and why this
01:04could be a defining period in shaping Tottenham's future but that goes around on social media are
01:10not factoring in Daniel Levy into this and you know we've seen the problems of the likes of Harry Kane
01:15trying to get out of Spurs Christine Eriksen before that Daniel Levy will not deal with Aston Villa
01:20when he's got two years left on his deal in the summer unless the fee is astronomical
01:24similarly Atletico Madrid so I think Romero would really have to agitate for a move to get it
01:29and also who knows if the next manager you know ends up being somebody like Mauricio Pochettino
01:35I think there's a lot of mutual respect there he's obviously a fellow Argentine
01:39so I don't think it's done and dusted but you know you would say the power is slowly shifting
01:45to Romero in terms of the key zeals to his future with two years left but as I say Daniel
01:50Levy will have the final say on that and no player leaves Spurs that is the one thing he is very good
01:54at in all fairness if he don't want to let a player go you ain't leaving frankly until it's on his terms
02:00so interesting summer ahead but you know as we've spoken about before with or without Romero you know
02:05we need another centre-back coming in we've obviously got Van der Ven you know who's got so much talent but is he
02:11is he going to be sort of the next Ledley King where he's you know a fantastic player but we just
02:15rarely get the get him out on the pitch and see the best of him and obviously Dragun's got his
02:20long-term cruciate injury in his knee which which you know knows when he's going to come back or
02:24whether he'll even be the same player and Kevin Danso has been pretty pretty solid I think he's been
02:29a very shrewd signing from Spurs actually but we're definitely short at centre-back you know
02:33whether Romero stays or he doesn't stay so interesting to see how that one develops but you know
02:38the other thing is let's see how he plays in the next few games for Spurs you know let's let's
02:41see him be available now to the end of the season and really put his heart and soul on the line if
02:45he does want his move but put everything out there and go out with a go out with a bang for Spurs
02:51and really show us what you can do because as I say the jury's out for me a little bit on the way he plays
02:55and just on the Spurs summer obviously I mean you mentioned a few positions and there but do you feel
03:02there's a an overriding factor that there are you know a lack of leaders still in this Spurs group and
03:08if there is a new manager and a bit of change to come in the summer that's something they need to
03:12address in the transfer window yeah a hundred percent you know we took Harry Kane out of the team
03:17obviously a huge leader huge talisman club record goal scorer club legend but we also let
03:24Hoiberg go in the same summer and you know he divided fans but he always did a job particularly in that
03:31first season for Boster Cogler was a bit of a finisher you know he'd come on and just show things
03:34up and we've really lacked any kind of player like that this season and any kind of on the on the
03:40field leadership really you know Sonny fantastic player but is he is he is he a great leader and
03:46obviously he's had his own struggle with with his form and a little bit of his fitness this season as
03:50well so it's a gaping hole in the team you know there's nobody in that team who you know really
03:57just manage on the pitch and if we're struggling and under the cosh um you know gets all of everybody
04:01and says hey for the next five minutes you know you hold you you hold your positions you don't do x y
04:06or z um you know we often look just sort of like headless chickens in terms of game game management so
04:12that's a huge area of concern and a huge area we need to address because as I say we've got the
04:17nucleus of the the young talent coming through um but they need some experienced pros to come in
04:22alongside that to augment it to develop that young talent and you know as I say if we get two or three
04:28key positions in that spine of the team um then you know I don't think the new manager should there
04:34be one is going to be too far away so you could argue Poster Coglu's laid a bit of groundwork there
04:40but who knows what the future holds we'll soon find out
04:43you
