00:00What would be going through someone's mind?
00:03You know you're being marched to your death,
00:05thinking about the things you don't get to do maybe,
00:08the loved ones you're leaving behind.
00:11He says you're not a bad person.
00:13I forgive you for what you're about to do.
00:17He was at a very vulnerable point in his life.
00:21She became somebody that he confided in.
00:24That eventually grew into a friendship,
00:26which eventually grew into something more.
00:28We discovered this affair that has been taking place.
00:41I'm trying to figure out what's her involvement.
00:44But then the plot thickens.
00:46She was also married, which complicated things a lot more.
00:51She wove this tale of being this damsel in distress.
00:54And he wanted to be her knight in shining armor.
00:58He goes, something in me was telling me, don't do it.
01:00You're going to get in trouble.
01:02They decided to kill.
01:05No remorse, no sympathy.
01:08She used him, and he rose to the bait.
01:11It's an unforgivable act,
01:14and one that justice demands that they fully pay for.
01:16California's central valley is a picturesque landscape
01:33that serves as a gateway to the Sierra Nevada mountains.
01:37We get a lot of tourists through here
01:39with Sequoia Kings Canyon National Park,
01:42but the primary industry is agriculture.
01:46There is a lot of farmland,
01:47a lot of grape vineyards,
01:49a lot of orchards like peaches
01:50and different types of stone fruit.
01:54Orchards that go on for miles.
01:56A lot of people who have been here have sacrificed.
01:59They have come from very far away
02:01to build their lives with absolutely nothing
02:04in their pockets other than a hope and a dream.
02:07When Kings County receives a 911 call
02:13from a worried mother, Tomasa Reyes,
02:16on April 4th, 2016,
02:19they soon realize this family's American dream
02:22might be turning into a nightmare.
02:26Tomasa is searching for her son,
02:2840-year-old church pastor,
02:30Abraham Gaspar Reyes.
02:32He worked for a chicken plant out in Sanger,
02:50which is in Fresno County in California.
02:52On the weekends, he'd spend with his parents,
02:55and they lived in Hanford, California,
02:57which is in Kings County.
02:59He would oftentimes give the Sunday sermon
03:06at his church.
03:08And about 1.30 in the afternoon after church,
03:11he had told his mom and his stepdad
03:14that he was going to go get a tire fixed
03:17on his vehicle.
03:18And unfortunately,
03:19that's the last they ever heard from him.
03:21With no sign of Abraham,
03:51anywhere around their small town,
03:54his mother pleads with deputies
03:55for help finding him.
03:58We ended up sending other detectives
03:59to his parents' house
04:00so we could get a little bit more information.
04:21And so they were investigating
04:25to see where they were.
04:33Originally from Oaxaca, Mexico,
04:36Abraham Gaspar Reyes grew up
04:38with his mother, Tomasa,
04:39his stepfather, Malesio,
04:41and his younger sister.
04:42Malesio had a farm,
04:45so Abraham was exposed to, you know,
04:48the farm life, the animals,
04:49the agriculture.
04:51And Malesio was also a pastor.
04:53So this is where Abraham
04:54got his inspiration
04:56to become a man of God.
04:58After high school,
05:24Abraham stayed active
05:25in his local church
05:27and dreamed of having
05:28a family of his own.
05:30Abraham met his wife, Mari,
05:33and he really fell in love with her.
05:35And they ended up having
05:36two beautiful children.
05:37He was very good,
05:39very friendly,
05:41a good wife.
05:43And he had a child
05:46when he arrived with him,
05:49but he registered his name.
05:51In 2005, Abraham made
05:56the difficult decision
05:57to leave his wife
05:58and children behind
06:00while he searched
06:01for better opportunities
06:02in America.
06:04Abraham wanted to provide
06:06a better life for his kids.
06:08Living in Oaxaca,
06:09there was not a lot of access
06:11to education
06:11or more opportunities.
06:13He came to America
06:15to provide for his family
06:17like many of those people
06:19who come from other countries
06:20and state
06:21to be able to make
06:23a better future
06:24than what they were having
06:26where they once was.
06:28Abraham joined his parents
06:30in the town of Hanford, California.
06:32They would hoe the cotton,
06:44take out all the weeds,
06:46but Abraham didn't only do that.
06:49He, whatever job was available
06:52in the field,
06:54he was more than capable.
06:56Abraham always planned
06:58to return to his wife
06:59and children in Mexico.
07:00Being a migrant worker,
07:11being by yourself,
07:12basically starting from scratch,
07:14took him a lot longer
07:15than he imagined.
07:17And during this time,
07:18his wife decided to
07:19end their relationship.
07:21For Abraham,
07:22it was very painful.
07:24He came here
07:24in search of a better life
07:26to provide for his wife,
07:28and that was something
07:29that was extremely hurtful.
07:30for him.
07:32So, Abraham was in the process
07:34of a divorce.
07:39Abraham turned to his faith,
07:41finding solace
07:42at a local church.
07:44At the time,
07:46I was the Sunday school teacher,
07:49and then Abraham shows up,
07:52and he was very intelligent.
07:54He was very knowing
07:56of God's Word,
07:58and so he became
08:00very helpful
08:01in my ministry.
08:02He wanted to help
08:24the community,
08:24and the kids
08:26or the young people
08:26at the church
08:27who at the church
08:27really looked up
08:28to Abraham
08:29as a mentor.
08:35Now, nearly 11 years
08:37after immigrating
08:38to America,
08:40the beloved pastor
08:41has gone missing,
08:42and law enforcement
08:43is speaking
08:44to his concerned parents.
08:46We take the initial information
08:49from the family.
08:51At that point,
08:52that BOL goes out nationwide.
08:58The following day,
09:00two field workers
09:01are tending
09:01to an almond orchard
09:02in nearby Early Mart, California,
09:05when they come across
09:06an alarming sight.
09:10They were going
09:10down the row,
09:12and they came across
09:13a body.
09:16When they got closer,
09:17it was very apparent
09:18that the person
09:19wasn't alive.
09:21They ended up
09:22calling 911
09:23Advice Dispatch.
09:25Dispatch ends up
09:26calling our officers
09:27to the scene.
09:28When we get there,
09:30the one thing
09:30that I remember
09:30right off the bat
09:31was seeing this individual
09:33laying there,
09:34and he looked like
09:35he had left
09:36some type of
09:37a formal event.
09:38It was someone
09:39who stood out.
09:40It wasn't somebody
09:41that was in the field
09:42or was, say,
09:43like a farm worker
09:43that had a heart attack
09:44or passed out
09:45because of the heat
09:46or something like that.
09:48As I approached,
09:49I could see
09:50that he had
09:51a gunshot wound
09:51to his head.
09:53There was evidence
09:54of insect activity,
09:56which indicated
09:57that he had been there
09:58most likely
09:59for a day or so.
10:01We started checking
10:02for identification
10:03to see if he had
10:04anything on him
10:05so we could identify him.
10:07We recovered
10:08the wallet.
10:09I went through it
10:10and I located
10:12a bank card
10:13and a Mexican
10:14consular identification
10:16card
10:16to Abraham
10:17Gaspar Reyes.
10:20Based upon
10:21height,
10:22weight,
10:23all the identifying
10:23information
10:24on his license,
10:25it appeared consistent.
10:26Yeah, that's him.
10:28He had taken
10:29a gunshot
10:30to his right temple
10:31that went through
10:33his head
10:33and exited
10:34out the left.
10:36The way that
10:37Abraham died,
10:38it was execution style.
10:39This was not
10:40something that could
10:40be mistaken
10:41for anything else.
10:43It was just
10:43cold-blooded murder.
10:48Coming up,
10:49investigators uncover
10:51a possible motive
10:52in the murder
10:53of Abraham.
10:53Abraham,
10:54she would not
10:55allow him
10:56to look at
10:59another woman,
11:00to talk to
11:00another woman.
11:02It would make sense
11:03that there was
11:04a jealousy component
11:05to this.
11:06And a suspect
11:07comes clean.
11:09It's kind of
11:10that old saying,
11:11confession is good
11:12for the soul.
11:13He spilled
11:13everything.
11:24Just one day
11:25after he was
11:26reported missing,
11:2740-year-old
11:28pastor Abraham
11:29Gaspar Reyes
11:30has been found
11:31dead in an
11:32almond grove
11:33in Tulare County,
11:34California.
11:36There were
11:37footprints where
11:38it looked like
11:39the ground was
11:40wetter when they
11:40had been made
11:42and the ground
11:42had sort of
11:43dried scents.
11:44He also had
11:45dried dirt
11:46on the bottom
11:46of his shoes.
11:49It was pretty
11:50apparent that
11:51he walked into
11:52the orchard
11:52of his own volition.
11:54We located
11:55a shell casing
11:56at the scene
11:57which was able
11:58to quickly tell us
11:59that our suspicions
12:00were correct
12:00and that he
12:02was murdered
12:02at that location.
12:05It was a
12:06spent .44 caliber.
12:09To pull the trigger
12:10on a large gun
12:10like that,
12:11it doesn't happen
12:12accidentally.
12:13Because it takes
12:14some force
12:14to pull the trigger.
12:16About two miles
12:17away from the orchard
12:18there is a vineyard
12:19there and in front
12:21of that they found
12:22a truck belonging
12:23to Abraham
12:24Gaspar Reyes.
12:26There was a cell phone,
12:28there was like
12:28a jewelry box,
12:29but it was all
12:30just sitting on the seat.
12:32We were able
12:33to get the vehicle
12:33and take it
12:35as evidence.
12:35Obviously go through
12:36with the photographing,
12:37collecting,
12:38and whatnot.
12:38We try to find out
12:41as much as we can
12:42as in anybody
12:43that might have
12:44been involved
12:44or might have
12:45wanted him hurt.
12:46And usually family
12:46is the best resource
12:47that we could get
12:48because they're the ones
12:49that know him the best.
12:50That morning,
12:55investigators returned
12:56to the home
12:57of Tomasa
12:57and Melisio Reyes
12:59to deliver
13:00the heartbreaking news.
13:01This family was devastated,
13:07both mom and dad.
13:17Both mom and dad
13:18were extremely upset.
13:31At this point,
13:45we don't know
13:46what a motive is.
13:47So we're really trying
13:48to determine
13:49why was he killed.
13:51The picture
13:51that was drawn for us
13:52was that Abraham
13:53was a pretty decent guy.
13:55He was an assistant
13:56pastor at his church
13:57and he was
13:59somebody that was respected
14:01within his community
14:02and very loyal
14:03to his family.
14:05While we were talking,
14:06we discovered
14:07that he was separated
14:08from his wife
14:09and that he had
14:09two children in Mexico.
14:20Abraham's parents
14:21say his failing marriage
14:23had been a source
14:24of stress for him.
14:26Another recent incident
14:27had also troubled Abraham
14:29and it involved
14:30a new girlfriend,
14:3240-year-old Angelita Reyes.
14:48Angelita Reyes
14:49had two children
14:51at that time,
14:51nine and 12 years of age,
14:53two boys,
14:54and was recently
14:56separated from her husband.
14:58They had been separated
14:59for about seven months.
15:02Abraham was
15:03at a very vulnerable
15:04point in his life
15:05and Angelita came in.
15:06She was giving him attention
15:08and she was cooking for him
15:09and having that rejection
15:11from his wife,
15:13she really came in
15:14and filled in
15:14that void for him.
15:16She became somebody
15:17that he confided in.
15:19That eventually,
15:20you know,
15:20grew into a friendship,
15:21which eventually grew
15:23into something more.
15:37So not only
15:38did Abraham have
15:39this complicated
15:40relationship
15:41with his wife,
15:42Angelita was also married,
15:44which complicated
15:45things a lot more.
15:46Angelita began
15:50attending church
15:51with Abraham.
15:53She would sit
15:54in the pews
15:55and watch him preach.
15:57All the people
15:58from the church
15:59would go to him
16:00and he would hug them
16:01and be very outgoing.
16:05After he started
16:06to date
16:07or see Angelita,
16:08he became
16:09very much reserved.
16:11His demeanor
16:13totally changed
16:14even with me.
16:16and I was old enough
16:17to be his mom,
16:19grandma even.
16:21He totally changed.
16:24She would not allow him
16:26to look at another woman,
16:29to talk to another woman,
16:31young or old.
16:33There was one argument
16:34in particular
16:35that was a big argument
16:37between Abraham
16:38and Angelita
16:39and Tomasa was there.
16:41and that struck her weird
16:52at the time,
16:53but of course
16:53she didn't think
16:54much of it.
16:55But now,
16:56it's like,
16:57well wait,
16:57the way
16:58that Angelita
16:59said it
17:00was almost
17:02kind of,
17:03you know,
17:04malice in it.
17:04the senior pastors
17:07at the church
17:08had tried
17:10to keep
17:10them apart
17:11because they knew
17:12Abraham still had
17:14his own children
17:15in Mexico
17:15and his wife
17:16and they did not think
17:18it was a good idea
17:19for Abraham
17:20to be preaching
17:20during that time.
17:22So this was not
17:23something that was
17:24looked at lightly
17:25by the church
17:26or his congregation.
17:29He was in this
17:30dating relationship
17:30with Angelita
17:32from October,
17:34I believe,
17:34of 2014
17:35through January
17:36of 2016.
17:38Investigators learned
17:39that Abraham
17:40had ended
17:41his relationship
17:41with Angelita
17:42in order to focus
17:44on his ministry
17:45and his marriage
17:46with Mari.
17:48He was fighting
17:49the flesh,
17:51you know,
17:51he wanted
17:52the life
17:53of a pastor.
17:56He came back
17:57and he told
17:58the pastor,
17:59I'm back,
18:00pastor,
18:01this time for good.
18:02Everything
18:03in my life
18:04that was the hindrance
18:05is now gone.
18:11The last time
18:12that he told me,
18:12Mary,
18:13that she's going
18:14to come here.
18:16I have plans
18:19and she already
18:19has money.
18:21for investigators,
18:30news of Abraham's
18:31romantic entanglements
18:32amounts to
18:33two promising leads.
18:36It was very clear
18:38that this was
18:38an execution.
18:39It would make sense
18:40that there was
18:41a jealousy component
18:42to this.
18:43So they needed
18:44to track down
18:45Mari and Angelita
18:46to see if they had
18:48any type
18:48of involvement
18:49in this.
19:00Less than 48 hours
19:02into the murder
19:03investigation
19:03of 40-year-old
19:05Abraham Gaspar Reyes,
19:07police are exploring
19:08two possible
19:09persons of interest,
19:11Abraham's wife,
19:12Mari,
19:12and his ex-girlfriend,
19:14Angelita Reyes.
19:17They were able
19:18to track down
19:19Mari, Abraham's wife,
19:20in Mexico.
19:21They learned
19:22that their relationship
19:23was in good standing.
19:25The wife finally
19:27wanted to come
19:29to the United States
19:31to be with him.
19:32We discovered
19:34that they were
19:35still communicating,
19:36they were still
19:36talking,
19:37but that basically
19:38she was there,
19:40he was here.
19:42She had never
19:43been here,
19:44and so she was
19:45ultimately eliminated
19:46as a suspect
19:47from his murder.
19:52Investigators
19:52next travel
19:53to the registered
19:54address for
19:54Angelita Reyes.
19:56When they arrive,
19:58her husband,
19:59Javier,
19:59agrees to speak
20:00to them,
20:01but he claims
20:02Angelita moved
20:03into an apartment
20:04of her own
20:05seven months earlier.
20:07Angelita had been
20:08married with
20:10Javier Garcia,
20:11and just one day
20:12she up and left
20:13him saying that
20:14he wasn't a fun
20:15person anymore,
20:16and she left.
20:19Angelita did tell
20:20Javier that she
20:21had been seeing
20:23Abraham.
20:25When asked
20:26if Angelita
20:27could have anything
20:28to do with
20:29Abraham's murder,
20:30Javier is quick
20:31to say no.
20:33He did not
20:34think she was
20:35a violent
20:35person.
20:38Investigators
20:38immediately go
20:39to Angelita's
20:40new apartment
20:41in Bakersfield.
20:43They did find her
20:44down in Bakersfield.
20:46They asked her
20:47to come with them
20:49because at that
20:50point she was
20:51a suspect,
20:52but they didn't
20:53know if she
20:53was responsible.
20:55She readily
20:55agreed.
20:56At the station,
20:59Angelita is
21:00escorted to an
21:01interview room.
21:02She was very
21:03comfortable in
21:04sitting there and
21:05talking and
21:05almost to the
21:07point where she
21:07was flirting with
21:08the investigators.
21:10She talks about
21:11that she has a
21:12husband.
21:13They're not
21:14divorced, but
21:14they've been
21:15separated for a
21:15long time, that
21:17they have children
21:17together.
21:18She then talks
21:19about how she
21:20was dating Abraham,
21:21but she tries to
21:22make it that she
21:22called it off.
21:23well, tell us
21:25about Abraham.
21:26Tell us about,
21:27you know, the
21:27last time you
21:28talked with him.
21:29And she said,
21:30oh yeah, well no,
21:31I did talk to him
21:32on the phone
21:32Saturday night,
21:33but I didn't
21:34see him.
21:35She denies meeting
21:36or seeing Abraham
21:37on the day that
21:38he went missing.
21:40So probably an
21:41hour or so into
21:41the interview,
21:43Angelita agrees
21:44to take a
21:45voice stress
21:46analyzer, which
21:47for all intents
21:48and purposes is a
21:49lie detector test.
21:50The test suggests
21:52Angelita is
21:53lying about the
21:54last time she
21:55saw Abraham.
21:56So they pressure
21:58her to come
21:58clean.
22:00The investigators
22:01went back at
22:02her a second
22:02time and when
22:05confronted with
22:05this information,
22:06she finally
22:07starts to talk.
22:09She said,
22:10well, we got
22:10together Sunday,
22:12April 3rd, which
22:13was the last day
22:14he was seen
22:14alive.
22:16And then she's
22:17like, you know,
22:18Abraham was
22:18blackmailing me.
22:19And the detective
22:22goes, tell me
22:23more about that.
22:24She's like, well,
22:26he took naked
22:27photos of me and
22:28made these videos
22:29of me and was
22:31threatening me
22:32because I broke
22:33up with him.
22:34He was threatening
22:34me to make them
22:35public if I didn't
22:36get back together
22:37with him.
22:38This doesn't fit
22:39the narrative of
22:40who Abraham is as
22:41a person that's
22:43being presented by
22:43every other person
22:45who knew him.
22:46what she said
22:47made no sense.
22:49We didn't
22:49necessarily believe
22:50Angelita's statement.
22:54That's when
22:54Angelita tells
22:55police that she
22:57had confided in
22:58her roommate,
22:5922-year-old
23:00Jesus Geronimo.
23:02They work at the
23:03packing house
23:03together, working
23:04on farm labor.
23:06She then
23:06eventually admits
23:08that, oh, yeah,
23:08they were kind
23:09of dating.
23:10Angelita and
23:11Jesus started
23:12dating soon after
23:13she and Abraham
23:14broke up in
23:15January of 2016.
23:18She said that
23:20Jesus was a
23:21jealous man and
23:22he wanted to
23:23harm Abraham
23:24because he didn't
23:25like how Abraham
23:26was treating
23:27Angelita.
23:29Angelita claims
23:31that on Sunday,
23:32April 3rd, she
23:33had plans to
23:34meet up with
23:34Abraham alone.
23:38Abraham had
23:40some jewelry of
23:41Angelita's.
23:42From the
23:42relationship, but
23:43after they had
23:43broken up,
23:44Angelita had
23:45then wanted
23:45that jewelry
23:46back.
23:47She says,
23:48I went on
23:49my own on
23:50Sunday, April
23:513rd, to meet
23:51with Abraham
23:52in early
23:53Martin.
23:54I traveled
23:54alone.
23:56She says,
23:57all of a
23:58sudden, Jesus
23:59Geronimo shows
24:00up and he's
24:01just in a
24:02rage.
24:04And she said
24:05that Jesus
24:06walked Abraham
24:07at gunpoint
24:08into the field
24:10and shot him
24:11and walked
24:11away.
24:12she'd said
24:17that she
24:17didn't get
24:18out of the
24:18car, she
24:18didn't see
24:19what happened
24:20and we
24:20really didn't
24:21believe that.
24:23By then,
24:23the detectives
24:24are like,
24:25did he really
24:25come separate?
24:26She starts
24:27changing her
24:28stories.
24:29And it's
24:29just obvious
24:30that she is
24:31telling one
24:31lie after
24:32another after
24:33another.
24:34I say, let
24:34them lie.
24:35Eventually, you're
24:36going to be out
24:36of excuses and
24:37the truth's going
24:38to come out.
24:39I'm trying to
24:40figure out,
24:41okay, what's
24:42her involvement?
24:43At that point,
24:44I'm wondering,
24:45is she the
24:46actual killer?
24:47two days into
24:58the murder
24:59investigation of
25:00Abraham Gaspar
25:01Reyes, his
25:03ex-girlfriend,
25:04Angelita Reyes,
25:05has just
25:06admitted that
25:07her new
25:08boyfriend,
25:08Jesus
25:09Geronimo,
25:10shot and
25:10killed Abraham
25:11after he
25:13allegedly
25:14blackmailed
25:15her.
25:15According to
25:17her, she
25:18did not know
25:19that Jesus
25:20intended to
25:21shoot or
25:22kill Abraham.
25:24She said she
25:25was innocent of
25:26that.
25:26She was just
25:27interested in
25:27getting her
25:28jewelry back
25:28and trying to
25:29reconcile maybe
25:30and be friends.
25:32But then the
25:33plot thickens in
25:34this case.
25:36As Angelita's
25:37story takes yet
25:38another turn,
25:39she admits to
25:40investigators that
25:41it wasn't her
25:42jewelry, but a
25:43plan concocted by
25:45Jesus that
25:46brought Abraham
25:47out to meet
25:48her at a
25:48remote location
25:49with no
25:50witnesses.
25:52So as she's
25:53trying to claim
25:53this, oh,
25:54woe is me,
25:55she eventually
25:56says that
25:57Jesus had her
26:00call Abraham
26:01to set him up,
26:03tell him that
26:04her truck isn't
26:05working.
26:06They even put
26:07the hood of the
26:07truck up.
26:08He then tells
26:10her, you stay
26:10here.
26:12Jesus goes and
26:13hides.
26:14So Angelita waits
26:15and Abraham
26:17arrives.
26:19So Abraham
26:20gets out of the
26:21vehicle.
26:22Unbeknownst to
26:23him, Jesus
26:24springs out from
26:25his hiding spot.
26:27He's now being
26:28confronted by
26:29Jesus with the
26:31firearm, and
26:32that's where he's
26:33shot and killed.
26:33She admitted to
26:40being present when
26:42Jesus Geronimo
26:43shot Abraham.
26:46She finally tells
26:47what happens, but
26:49she was making it
26:50as if the whole
26:51thing was planned
26:52by Jesus and
26:54that it was his
26:55idea.
26:56But Angelita
26:57insists she thought
26:58the plan was to
26:59simply scare
27:00Abraham.
27:01She finally
27:03ended up throwing
27:04Jesus under the
27:05bus and blamed
27:06him for
27:07everything.
27:08She was just
27:09very confident
27:10that she was
27:10fine and there
27:11was nothing wrong
27:12with what she
27:12had done.
27:14It was very
27:14apparent that she
27:15was so sure she
27:16was going to
27:17leave that she
27:18actually at one
27:19point asked
27:20them, so are
27:22you going to pay
27:22me for my time?
27:26While Angelita
27:27is held in
27:28custody, authorities
27:29immediately get
27:30Jesus Geronimo
27:32on the phone.
27:34We somewhat
27:34did a ruse
27:35because we
27:36called Geronimo
27:37and we said,
27:37hey, Angelita's
27:38ready to be
27:38picked up from
27:39the police
27:40department, come
27:40and pick her
27:41up.
27:41So when he
27:42showed up to
27:43pick her up,
27:43that's when we
27:44took him under
27:45custody.
27:46Once in the
27:47interview room,
27:48investigators ease
27:50into their line
27:50of questioning by
27:51getting to know
27:52the suspect.
27:53During our
27:54conversation, he
27:55said that he
27:55was born in
27:56Long Beach in
27:57California.
27:58From there, his
27:59family ended up
28:00moving to
28:01Wasco to go
28:02work in
28:02agriculture.
28:04He told me that
28:05he had met
28:06Angelita about a
28:07year ago and
28:08that they worked
28:09together in
28:09Delano.
28:12Jesus really
28:12didn't have
28:13anybody in this
28:14world.
28:14He was alone.
28:15He didn't have
28:15an education.
28:16He didn't have
28:17anybody to look
28:18up to or any
28:19type of, you
28:20know, positive
28:20role models in
28:21his life.
28:22And Angelita,
28:22she stepped in.
28:23She was all
28:24these things for
28:24him.
28:25She taught
28:26him how to
28:26work.
28:26She taught
28:27him a lot
28:27of skills that
28:28he believed
28:29were skills that
28:29his father should
28:30have taught
28:31him, but his
28:31father never
28:32did.
28:33So he, you
28:34know, was
28:34fond of her.
28:37When
28:38investigators
28:38confront him
28:40about the
28:40murder of
28:41Abraham
28:41Gaspar
28:42Reyes,
28:43Jesus begins
28:44to crack
28:45under the
28:45pressure.
28:46His
28:47demeanor, you
28:48could tell
28:48something was
28:48bothering him.
28:50And we
28:51said, well,
28:51what did you
28:52do?
28:53He went on
28:54to say that
28:55he was
28:55tired of
28:56Abraham
28:57threatening
28:58or intimidating
28:59Angelita.
29:01Always worried
29:02that some
29:03photos or
29:04video was
29:04going to be
29:05leaked out
29:05to her
29:06ex-husband
29:06and to
29:07her children.
29:08He's like,
29:08I just
29:09need it
29:10to stop.
29:11I need
29:11Abraham to
29:12stop torturing
29:13Angelita.
29:15He said,
29:16all that
29:16weekend, he
29:17started thinking
29:18about it.
29:18He had made
29:19his mind up
29:19that he was
29:20going to kill
29:20him.
29:20So he
29:21ended up
29:22speaking with
29:22a co-worker
29:23and said,
29:24hey, can I
29:25borrow a gun?
29:26He had this
29:27friend, Arturo,
29:28who was the
29:28one who
29:29provided the
29:29weapon.
29:31He stated
29:32that when
29:32Arturo got
29:33there, Jesus
29:34said, hey, I
29:35don't know how
29:36to use a gun.
29:37So Jesus
29:38said Arturo
29:38gave him a
29:39tutorial, left
29:40him with a
29:41loaded gun
29:41that Arturo
29:42made sure
29:43was fully
29:43loaded, and
29:45said, wait,
29:45you're still
29:46just going to
29:46scare him.
29:47You're not
29:47going to do
29:48anything else,
29:48right?
29:49Jesus said
29:52that he was
29:52a very
29:53stubborn
29:53person, and
29:54once that
29:55thought went
29:55into his
29:56mind, there
29:56was no
29:57convincing him
29:57otherwise.
29:59Jesus claimed
30:00that he asked
30:00Angelita to
30:01set a time
30:02to meet
30:02with Abraham,
30:03and Angelita
30:04was more
30:05than happy
30:05to comply.
30:07Jeronimo
30:08said they
30:09were going
30:09to tell
30:09Abraham to
30:11meet him
30:12in early
30:12March in
30:13the outskirts
30:14and say
30:15that the
30:15car broke
30:15down.
30:17And he
30:17went across
30:18the street
30:18and hid
30:19in a
30:19great
30:19vineyard.
30:20And when
30:21Abraham
30:22arrived, he
30:23jumped out
30:23of his
30:24hiding spot.
30:25He said
30:25he pepper
30:25sprayed
30:26Abraham.
30:28He held
30:29Abraham at
30:30gunpoint, and
30:32that he drove
30:32him nearby
30:33to the
30:33almond
30:33orchard.
30:37He says
30:38that as
30:39they're
30:39walking, he's
30:40still covering
30:40his face
30:41because of
30:41the pepper
30:41spray, that
30:43Abraham tells
30:44them, you
30:45know, you're
30:46not a bad
30:46person.
30:47I forgive
30:48you for
30:48what you're
30:48about to
30:49do.
30:50This is
30:50not your
30:51work.
30:51This is
30:52the devil's
30:52work.
30:53I can't
30:54imagine what
30:56would be going
30:56through someone's
30:57mind.
30:58You know
30:58you're being
30:59marched to
30:59your death,
31:00thinking about
31:02the things you
31:02don't get to
31:03do maybe,
31:04the loved
31:04ones you're
31:04leaving behind.
31:07Jesus goes,
31:08I raised a
31:08gun, I put it
31:09right next to
31:10his head, and
31:12something in me
31:13was telling me,
31:13don't do it,
31:14you're going to
31:14get in
31:15trouble, and
31:16he goes, I
31:17pulled the
31:17trigger.
31:29Tulare County
31:30investigators are
31:31questioning 22-year-old
31:33Jesus Geronimo, who
31:35has cracked under
31:36the pressure of
31:37investigators about
31:38the murder of
31:39beloved pastor
31:40Abraham Gaspar
31:42Reyes.
31:44Some dam
31:45inside him,
31:46emotional dam,
31:46just broke, and
31:48it's kind of that
31:49old saying,
31:50confession is good
31:50for the soul.
31:51He spilled
31:52everything.
31:55He goes, when I
31:57pulled the trigger,
31:57I seen him going
31:58back, but I
32:02didn't want to
32:02have that image
32:03engraved in my
32:04head, so I
32:05looked away, and
32:06I left.
32:08He stated he
32:08walked back to
32:09the car, and he
32:10told Angelita
32:10basically, it's
32:11done, and they
32:13drive back to the
32:14home of Arturo, give
32:16him back the gun, and
32:18he says, then we
32:19went to get
32:19empanadas.
32:21Well, they
32:22rolled right into
32:22the rest of their
32:23day, like nothing
32:24had ever happened.
32:25It just came off as
32:26very cold and
32:27heartless.
32:29We arrested
32:30Jesus and
32:31Angelita.
32:32My office charged
32:33them with murder.
32:34Then they were both
32:36charged with a
32:36special circumstance
32:37of lying in
32:38wait.
32:39To help build
32:42their case against
32:44Jesus and Angelita,
32:45investigators tracked
32:47down the man who
32:47provided the murder
32:49weapon, 37-year-old
32:51Arturo Pompa.
32:53He admitted that
32:54Jesus did contact him
32:56that afternoon and
32:58asked for him to
32:59meet down in
33:00early mark and to
33:01bring the gun.
33:02Arturo said that
33:06every time he had
33:07talked to either
33:07Angelita or to
33:09Jesus, it was just
33:10that they needed to
33:11scare Abraham so
33:13that he would stop
33:14trying to torture
33:15Angelita with these
33:16sex tapes.
33:18He said, Jesus
33:19asked, hey, I need
33:20you to show me how
33:21to work this.
33:23Arturo was somebody
33:24who wanted to help,
33:26and so he agreed and
33:28showed him how to
33:29use it.
33:29Arturo says he
33:33went home and
33:34was visited by the
33:35couple later that
33:36day.
33:37Arturo then said
33:38that later that
33:39afternoon, Jesus
33:40and Angelita arrived
33:42at his home and
33:43brought back the
33:44gun, that he
33:45didn't look at the
33:46gun at all, he
33:47just put it back in
33:48the case in the way
33:49that it was given
33:49to him and stuck it
33:51up on the shelf in
33:51his closet.
33:53The detectives ask,
33:55hey, can we see
33:56this?
33:56Can you give us
33:57this gun?
33:57And he pulls out
33:59the box.
34:01It was a Desert
34:02Eagle .44 magnum.
34:04It was consistent
34:04with shell casing
34:07located at the
34:08scene.
34:09You look at the
34:09gun and you look
34:10down that barrel.
34:12There's apparent
34:13bodily matter in
34:14it.
34:16There's blood,
34:18skin, there even
34:19appears to be like
34:20chunks of little
34:21bone.
34:22So nothing was done
34:24to that gun from
34:25the time it was
34:26used to kill
34:27Abraham to the
34:28time it was placed
34:28in that box and
34:29put up on that
34:30shelf.
34:32Arturo tries to
34:33just kind of
34:34minimize his
34:34involvement, but
34:35they ultimately
34:36arrest him.
34:40With Angelita
34:41Reyes, Jesus
34:42Geronimo and
34:43Arturo Pompa now
34:44in custody,
34:46investigators obtain
34:47a search warrant
34:48for the couple's
34:48apartment and
34:49cell phones.
34:50Angelita was
34:51claiming that
34:53Abraham was
34:54blackmailing her
34:55with a number of
34:56photos and
34:57sexually explicit
34:58videos.
34:59We never located
35:00any images that
35:02would suggest that
35:03that happened.
35:04We never located
35:05anything on social
35:05media that says
35:07that any of these
35:07threats had ever
35:09taken place or
35:10that there was any
35:11indication that he
35:12had done anything
35:12like that at all.
35:13There was no
35:14evidence that Abraham
35:15was anything other
35:16than a stand-up
35:17individual.
35:20Based on Angelita's
35:21whole personality
35:23and her controlling
35:24of Abraham, our
35:25belief is that she
35:26put Jesus up to
35:28it.
35:29Jesus Geronimo was
35:3122 years old at this
35:32time, nearly half the
35:34age of Angelita Reyes.
35:37So is it possible
35:38that Jesus could have
35:39done it to prove his
35:41manliness to Angelita?
35:43We ended up taking
35:44Geronimo's cell phone
35:45and on that cell phone
35:47he had an ongoing
35:48conversation in Spanish
35:50with Pampa and it
35:52went from, I'm tired of
35:54this fool, I want to
35:55break him, he's doing
35:56this too much and I
35:57can't take it anymore
35:58to, hey, can I borrow
35:59the gun?
36:01Jesus really did believe
36:02that it was Abraham who
36:04was harassing her, who
36:06was following her, but
36:07in essence it was the
36:09opposite.
36:09It was Angelita who
36:11was after Abraham, it
36:13was Angelita who was
36:14pursuing Abraham and
36:16this whole time Jesus
36:17was fooled.
36:19She wove this tale of
36:20being this damsel in
36:21distress and he wanted
36:23to be her knight in
36:24shining armor.
36:25There's no denying that
36:26she was equally as
36:28cookable.
36:28Four days after
36:39discovering the body of
36:41California pastor Abraham
36:42Gaspar Reyes, Tulare
36:44County investigators have
36:46gathered incriminating
36:47data from the cell phones
36:49of Abraham's ex-girlfriend,
36:5140-year-old Angelita
36:53Reyes, and her new
36:54boyfriend, 22-year-old
36:56Jesus Geronimo.
36:59We did what we call
37:00CDRs, call detail
37:01records from cell
37:02providers.
37:03So we take those call
37:04detail records and we
37:05have them put into what's
37:06called Cellhawk and when
37:08they plugged them into
37:09that system and they
37:11started to map them, you
37:13clearly see Angelita and
37:15Jesus' cell phones
37:16traveling in tandem from
37:18Bakersfield.
37:19You see then Angelita
37:21and Jesus' phones move
37:23that couple of miles to
37:25where the almond orchard is
37:26and then leave presumably
37:29to where they went and
37:30got those empanadas.
37:35Investigators now have
37:36enough to press charges.
37:39On May 25th, 2016,
37:42Angelita Reyes and Jesus
37:44Geronimo are both charged
37:46with murder.
37:48Their gun runner,
37:49Arturo Pampa, is also
37:51charged with murder.
37:52In California, if you take
37:55part in a homicide, you can
37:57be charged the same as
37:59everybody else.
38:00How much he took part in
38:01the actual killing of
38:02Abraham is unclear.
38:06The best part of making the
38:07arrest on this case, we're
38:09getting to go back and tell
38:10mom and dad that the
38:11persons that were
38:12responsible for Abraham's
38:14death were going to be
38:16held accountable.
38:16In July 2018, Angelita Reyes,
38:31Jesus Geronimo and Arturo
38:46Pampa's joint trial gets
38:47underway.
38:49What was interesting about
38:50this trial is that all three
38:52defendants were on trial at
38:54the same time, so they were
38:56all sitting at the defendants'
38:57table at the same time.
38:58In this case, the defense
39:00jointly took a strategy.
39:02They decided absolutely that
39:04Angelita and Arturo were
39:06going to testify.
39:07They were trying to show that
39:09Abraham did threaten
39:10Angelita.
39:11He was making her life
39:12miserable, but none of that
39:14was proven.
39:18Instead, it was Angelita who
39:21was the aggressor.
39:23Angelita was extremely
39:24jealous.
39:25So, Abraham was in the
39:27process of a divorce, and
39:29he was still sending money
39:30to Mexico to his wife.
39:33And this was something that
39:34sent her over the edge.
39:37Prosecutors assert that
39:38following their breakup,
39:40Angelita used 22-year-old
39:42Jesus Geronimo to settle the
39:44score.
39:47Angelita was a mastermind.
39:49He had nothing to gain by
39:52killing Abraham except to gain
39:55Angelita.
39:56She used him, and he rose to
39:59the bait.
40:00It's an unforgivable act, and
40:03one that justice demands that
40:06they fully pay for.
40:07On July 20th, 2018, a Tulare County
40:14jury finds both Angelita Reyes and
40:16Jesus Geronimo guilty of first-degree
40:20murder.
40:22Arturo Pompa, however, is
40:24acquitted of all charges.
40:27Arturo supposedly provided the
40:29handgun for this homicide, but he
40:32did not pull the trigger.
40:33And I think a jury probably felt
40:36they didn't know how much Arturo
40:38might have taken part in the
40:39actual killing, moving of the
40:41body, or even luring him to a
40:44location.
40:46It comes down to the killer
40:48couple of Angelita and Jesus,
40:51because they're the ones that
40:52actually did the killing.
40:57Jesus pulled the trigger, but she
40:59set the wheels in motion and
41:00essentially laid the trap.
41:01This idea that she's being
41:04blackmailed with a sex tape is
41:05contrived.
41:07It's so she can control Jesus, so
41:09that she can get what she wants.
41:11Because if she couldn't have
41:12Abraham, no one could.
41:16They decided to kill Abraham.
41:19They did it, and no remorse, no
41:22sympathy for him or the family.
41:24Abraham was a very loving and
41:50caring person.
41:50He wanted the best for everybody.
41:53And I will miss him great.
