00:00Of a long week for us, I heard Deputy K'Night come across the radio that she was attempting
00:06to conduct a traffic stop. And I could immediately tell there was something wrong with her voice.
00:15I'm trying to think, I need to get there, I need to catch up, I need to get there.
00:22I caught up to the rear of the pursuit, and that's the first time I laid eyes on them.
00:30My heart starts racing. All I could see was the bright muzzle flash coming at me.
00:39We're not just out here chasing bad guys, we're getting shot at.
00:44I remember that's the first thought I had, that we're kind of dealing with a potential
00:48modern-day Bonnie and Clyde. They were just two people who met, and two people that a lot of folks
00:57wish would never have met. And they were just intended on evil, and that's what they acted
01:03out. It was evil.
01:19On May 14th, 2021, the Great Falls Police Department in Chester County, South Carolina,
01:25receives a concerning phone call from local resident, Eldrick Simpson.
01:30Chester County, is that?
01:34Yes, ma'am. If you haven't seen my cousin, since he has called up, he has been around.
01:41When was the last time you saw him?
01:44May 2nd.
01:45Okay.
01:46Eugene used to come to the house every day, but it was like four days in a row, he didn't
01:53came. So then we start calling around, trying to find out, hey, have you seen Eugene? Anybody
02:00seen Gino? Where is he?
02:03I feel like something's happened to Gene. There's no way he went this long, and he ain't talked
02:09to his family.
02:14Chief Vincent from Great Falls. He just asked, when was the last time we seen Gene? Where
02:22would we think he might be at? Trying to figure out what was going on. He didn't show up for
02:29the kids' cookout, and it was just, you know, weird.
02:32Kids got worried. I got worried. So now, things getting real sketchy now.
02:39Eugene's family tells authorities they're unable to reach Eugene's wife, Adrienne.
02:45I just thought Gene was gone missing with Adrienne.
02:49And that's when we put out a missing report.
02:55Eugene Simpson was a lifelong resident of Chester County.
02:59Back in our childhood, we used to run around and play around a lot. And Eugene was the oldest.
03:07So Eugene was the person who we followed.
03:13By middle school, Eugene showed a talent for both football and basketball.
03:19When Eugene get the ball, man, Eugene had moves that we ain't ever seen before. He was just
03:25so talented and so fast.
03:28After high school, Eugene was known for being industrious and hardworking.
03:34I would describe him as jack of all trades. Gene was gifted. He was talented. He could draw. He could cut hair. He could cut grass. He could build you a house.
03:45Gene was just very unique.
03:49Eugene used to cut hair everywhere.
03:54He'd walk around with his book bag on, clippers in the bag.
03:58But Gene never had a real job job.
04:01Like, a paycheck every week.
04:04He was working maybe like side job, laying bricks, or cutting grass, making a living.
04:09It was in those early post-high school years that Eugene began dating a former classmate named Adrian.
04:21Adrian, she went to the same school with her.
04:24And they eventually met each other and fell in love with each other.
04:29They were 17, 18.
04:31Adrian was also born and raised in Chester.
04:39Our parents divorced when we were young.
04:42But I think me and Adrian had a loving household.
04:45Playing outside like normal kids.
04:47Grades were good.
04:48Good friends in high school.
04:51Adrian, she was popular with the boys.
04:53She'd have a boyfriend this week and maybe another one a different time later, you know.
04:58She's never really had no one's daddy for a while.
05:01I would say until she met Gene.
05:03The young couple had an instant connection and married in 2011 after several months of dating.
05:11Gene was telling her, I'm going to have a baby, y'all.
05:15Adrian and Gene's first kid, Jasmine, came April of 2011.
05:19And as soon as she had her, she had pictures taken of Jasmine and sent everybody the newborn picture with Jasmine dressed up, you know.
05:26Adrian and Gene actually had a house together.
05:30And they tried their best to be two young adults taking care of their first child.
05:37Less than two years later, their son, Jelijah, was born.
05:42Eugene, he loved his kids.
05:44I'm talking about love his kids to death.
05:49Eugene wanted to be a family man and have a happy life.
05:56Any time you would talk to Adrian, it was always, I'm trying to do this for my kids, do this for my kids, you know.
06:02Post about, I love my kids.
06:07Investigators learned from Eugene's family that Eugene and his wife, Adrian, had been going through a rough patch after 10 years of marriage.
06:17Adrian, she was trying her best with the kids and getting kind of frustrated because Eugene started doing things that he wasn't supposed to do.
06:24So, Gino had a bad addiction problem and was starting to struggle real bad.
06:32Adrian contacted me and said, you know, she needed help with the place to stay.
06:37So, we let her and her two kids, Jasmine and Jelijah, move in with us.
06:41And she worked on getting a low-income-based apartment.
06:45Adrian left Eugene because Adrian was trying to get her life back situated with herself, but Eugene wasn't.
06:56Some days, he's going through his demon mode.
07:02Adrian and Gene never actually were divorced.
07:04They'd just been separated for several years.
07:07And then Gene ended up coming to Salisbury at one period of time.
07:10So, they were going to try to work it out, I reckon.
07:12The trust with one another didn't work.
07:15So, you know, he ended up going back to Great Falls.
07:19With Eugene and Adrian both missing, authorities must determine if their relationship problems had led to their disappearances.
07:28We knew that something had happened and we were trying to hope for the best,
07:34but you just want to know now, like, where's he at?
07:38What happened?
07:40Coming up, the discovery of a body creates more fear in a small town.
07:46There was four gunshot wounds around the heart.
07:48And investigators uncover a twisted romance that sparked violence.
07:55The relationship had taken a bad turn.
07:58She was jealous over those two.
08:04Investigators in Chester, South Carolina, are searching for 33-year-old Eugene Simpson and his estranged wife, Adrian.
08:21Several hours into the investigation, authorities in neighboring York County receive a call about another missing person.
08:34A 911 call had come into the York County dispatch from Shamir Hicks, who was concerned about her friend, Thomas Harden.
08:43Thomas Harden, we understand, was trans and used both male and female pronouns.
08:48According to Shamir, she hasn't spoken to Thomas all day.
08:52This call came in about 8.30 in the evening.
08:54It was a well-being check.
08:57The police had been called and asked if they would go by and just look in on him and make sure that he was all right.
09:06When the officer arrives at Thomas' apartment, the front door is ajar.
09:11The officer has opened the door.
09:15The door hits something on the floor.
09:23The officer looks down and notices the body of Thomas Harden laying on his back in the foyer of the house.
09:31He had been shot to death.
09:33Nine millimeter shell casings were found on the floor.
09:36There was four gunshot wounds to the left chest of Thomas around the heart and an apparent gunshot wound to the chin area.
09:47So, at that point, it became a homicide investigation and they sealed off the scene and began looking for pieces of evidence.
09:56I was able to look throughout the apartment.
09:59Nothing appeared to have been tamped with or taken.
10:01So, that tells me right off the bat that it wasn't a robbery.
10:05Without a robbery occurring, to me, indicates Thomas more than likely would have known the assailant.
10:11This was a personal crime, maybe a crime impassionate.
10:16Outside, investigators find a possible clue.
10:20The Gwakamason area, I was approached by a neighbor who lived next to Thomas
10:26and stated that he was mowing his lawn earlier that day and located a credit card.
10:33The debit card had the name Adrian Simpson on it.
10:41After looking up the name Adrian Simpson, York investigators learned she and her husband Eugene have been reported missing in Chester County.
10:50And we knew at that moment that we were looking for connections between those crimes.
10:57Investigators interviewed Thomas' circle, hoping to find any link between Thomas and Adrian.
11:03I reached back out to some family and friends of Thomas to try to gain more of a perspective of Thomas' home life and who he associated with.
11:13When I first met Thomas, he moved into the neighborhood and I lived across the street from him.
11:21He was the type of person that stayed to himself.
11:25He didn't get out much.
11:29Because he worked mainly all the time, but he was a quiet person.
11:32He worked at Bojangles.
11:33He at one time said he wanted to open up his own chicken restaurant and I was like, that's good, you know.
11:37We had our times where we would just sit on the front porch and he'd play the radio and we'd just sit there and laugh and cut up.
11:44And we'd talk about, you know, his work and his lifestyle.
11:51There was no secret that Thomas liked male companions.
11:56According to Thomas' friends and family, one man in particular had been a regular companion.
12:03Tyler Terry.
12:04Both family and friends mentioned Tyler Terry's on-again, off-again relationship.
12:11When I first met Tyler, he seemed to be a good guy.
12:14We'd sit out in the yard and we'd talk and laugh and cut up.
12:20Thomas really had a hate-love relationship.
12:23They were in a relationship at one time.
12:26Thomas decided it wasn't what he wanted.
12:29They just made it clear that it was a very unhealthy relationship between Thomas and Tyler.
12:35I was able to find a couple of domestic disputes between Thomas and Tyler.
12:40The relationship between Tyler Terry and Thomas Harden had taken a bad turn.
12:48The crime reports on Tyler Terry also show an intriguing link to Adrian Simpson.
12:57What really gauged my interest was I was able to find some reports involving a Tyler Terry and Adrian Simpson in a couple of domestic violence reports.
13:10Once I gained those reports, it was learned that Adrian Simpson was a girlfriend of Tyler Terry's.
13:16And it does show a pattern on Tyler's end of domestic violence history.
13:23Investigators theorize that Tyler Terry may be the connection between the disappearances of Adrian and Eugene and the death of Thomas Harden.
13:33After finding reports between Tyler and Adrian with domestic violence and also the on-again, off-again relationship between Thomas and Tyler,
13:40our investigation really focused on Tyler.
13:42He is high on my suspect list.
13:44May 2021, Chester County, South Carolina investigators have discovered missing person Adrian Simpson and murder victim Thomas Harden
14:06were both dating a man named Tyler Terry.
14:11Investigators dig deeper into Tyler Terry's background.
14:16Once I established Tyler as a main person of interest in this case, I looked into his background, his criminal history, his past associates.
14:24Law enforcement determined that he was from around the North, North Carolina, and also spent some time living on the street.
14:30Tyler had several arrests in the past with some violent tendencies with assault and domestic violence.
14:38To me, this does show that he does have a pattern.
14:44Investigators contact Adrian's family, who confirm a volatile relationship.
14:51Adrian and Tyler met around like 2018.
14:54They were together a few years.
14:56Adrian really loved Tyler Terry.
14:57Tyler and Adrian met through friends, and Adrian, again, was still married to Eugene.
15:04They were not living together at the time, but Adrian and Tyler started seeing each other and became an item.
15:11He was very abusive to her from the beginning.
15:14One time, Adrian called me.
15:16She said Tyler Terry had beat her while she was asleep with the belt.
15:20Adrian had whips all on her back.
15:22Her eye was black at the time.
15:24He busted her eardrum.
15:25They poured a gun on her.
15:28There's incidents where he poured a machete on her.
15:33According to family members, Adrian still remained devoted to Tyler.
15:39She couldn't leave him alone.
15:40I didn't understand.
15:41I don't know what kind of hold.
15:43She couldn't leave him alone.
15:44I would say Adrian quit paying the bills, you know, and focused on Tyler Terry.
15:52Adrian ended up losing her apartment.
15:55Adrian and Gene shared custody, so the kids ended up with Gene's family.
15:59They were living from motel to motel, so me and my wife had Eugene kids on and off.
16:08I can't tell you why Adrian would, you know, pick being homeless and staying with Tyler Terry
16:13instead of trying to give her kids a good life.
16:15I think she thought he really loved her.
16:19I'm not sure if he really loved her or just felt that he had this control over her.
16:27Since Tyler was also involved with Thomas Harden at the same time,
16:34investigators ask Adrian's family if they knew of any animosity between Adrian and Thomas.
16:40Adrian and Tyler were in a relationship, and Adrian knew that every time that they would be on the outs
16:49is when Tyler would then go back to Thomas.
16:53Adrian was jealous over those two.
16:56Adrian wanted to be with Tyler Terry.
16:59With new information about Adrian and Tyler, investigators wonder if she could be involved
17:05in both Thomas Harden's death and her estranged husband Eugene's disappearance.
17:11It was hope she would turn out alive, but we all really thought the worst had already happened.
17:19Learning about Tyler's criminal history and his past violent tendencies isn't afraid to harm anybody.
17:26So I was working with Chester County authorities.
17:29I submitted several subpoenas and search warrants for both Tyler's and Adrian's cell phone records,
17:35any financial institution records, see if they were using any debit card locations,
17:40maybe be able to track down where they might be at.
17:42But neither one of them was using a debit card or credit card.
17:49Then, on May 17th, investigators get a call.
17:53A couple matching Adrian and Tyler's description have just been spotted in downtown Chester.
18:01The vehicle was sitting in a dark parking lot of a business that was closed.
18:09Deputy K'Nype was checking to see if they were going to break into the Bojangles or what they were doing.
18:18It was just a routine night on patrol, and I heard Deputy K'Nype come across the radio
18:24that she was attempting to conduct a traffic stop.
18:27And I could immediately tell there was something wrong with her voice.
18:32As she attempted to approach that vehicle, the vehicle sped off.
18:39And she gave chase.
18:40I was awakened by a phone call.
18:44I was informed that Chester County Sheriff's deputies were just involved in a car chase
18:50where the suspect was shooting at them.
18:54Coming up, a high-speed chase endangers the lives of local law enforcement.
19:04You hear shots fired, more shots fired.
19:07And I just started yelling at people to go inside, lock the door.
19:13And with a killer on the loose, terror sweeps the nation as the body count rises.
19:20It was almost like he was a ghost and couldn't be caught.
19:23We're dealing with a potential modern-day Bonnie and Clyde.
19:26On the night of May 17, 2021, authorities are in pursuit of a couple matching the description
19:46of Adrian Simpson and Tyler Terry.
19:48Within the first few hundred yards, someone shot at her from that vehicle.
20:03And that bullet hit the windshield of her car.
20:07Her supervisor was across the street getting gas, and he observed what happened.
20:13He immediately got in his vehicle and became involved in the chase.
20:16And you page all available county units.
20:19Report.
20:21Shot fired, shot fired.
20:22I heard shots fired.
20:25I was at least two minutes away.
20:27I positioned myself to try to get in the chase.
20:31I was driving as fast as I possibly could.
20:34The whole time coming down towards Chester, you hear shots fired, more shots fired, more shots fired.
20:40So I need to catch up.
20:41I need to get there.
20:42There were multiple shots fired by the assailant in the vehicle.
20:47Biddy Branham actually did return fire a few times as he drove in his vehicle, shooting
20:53through his windshield with his rifle.
20:56I'm 10-4.
20:57I'm not sure.
20:58I have returned fire.
21:00They have got an AR-15.
21:01Shoot out the passenger side.
21:03And I caught up towards the rear of the pursuit.
21:08That's the first time I laid eyes on them, and they were in the left-hand lane and oncoming traffic.
21:14All I could see was the bright muzzle flash coming at me.
21:18I was scared.
21:22The high-speed chase tears through the center of downtown Chester.
21:26We go through the city limits, and we went through some hooks and curves, and, you know, they were still engaging gunfire.
21:33It's very difficult, as you're being shot at, to anticipate those turns that he may would make.
21:42The high-speed chase continues onto a major highway.
21:47It felt like I got shot at over 100 times.
21:54I was able to do everything I needed to do, match speeds, make contact, and they crashed off into the median.
22:03So when that vehicle stops, all of those deputies involved in the chase immediately, weapons are drawn.
22:14They approach the vehicle.
22:16I immediately begin yelling at them to show me their hands.
22:22I observed a male subject get out of the vehicle.
22:25He ran towards the rear and was running up the embankment into the wood lines, but he had a pretty good head start on me.
22:40He was still armed, was running up the hill.
22:43My thought was, if I run after him and I go up that embankment, I'm a sitting duck.
22:50All he has to do is just pick me off as soon as I crest the top of the hill.
22:53So I chose not to run after him, but the dust begins to settle.
23:00You see the female suspect trying to climb up the embankment.
23:04So at that time, I switched my attention from him to her, began shouting commands to her.
23:15After a few commands, she began to listen and respond and began to walk towards me, and I told her to put her face on the ground.
23:23She laid down on the ground, and I then began to handcuff her.
23:27The driver is identified within moments of her being taken into custody as Adrienne Simpson.
23:41Adrienne identifies the male suspect as her boyfriend, Tyler Terry.
23:48Luckily, none of our deputies were hurt.
23:51We had about five vehicles that had bullet holes in them.
23:55One being initially the shot fired into Sidney Kniep's car.
24:01The bullet ended up in her headrest.
24:04She ducked fast enough to miss it.
24:08By the grace of God, she was not hit.
24:11It was a surreal moment, seeing that, and knowing that she could have been taken away from us by somebody that didn't care about us at all.
24:19Authorities remain on high alert for an armed and dangerous suspected killer.
24:25The stakes are higher now because we have someone who has no regard for human life, and he is now in a rural, wooded area in our county.
24:37At this point, we feel that we're dealing with an individual that's unhinged, that's angry, and that isn't going to be afraid to harm somebody in their path.
24:47We knew we had to do all that we could do to get him in custody.
25:03Adrienne Simpson and her boyfriend, Tyler Terry, are suspects in the disappearance of Adrienne's estranged husband, Eugene Simpson,
25:11and the murder of Thomas Hardin, after a high-speed car chase with Chester County Police.
25:21Adrienne is in custody, and Tyler remains at large.
25:26The difficulties in the search was the perimeter was very large.
25:29It's a very wooded area.
25:31You also have farms in the area where an individual can hide out in barns.
25:38It was almost like he was a ghost and couldn't be caught.
25:41On May 18th, as local and state officials search for Tyler, Adrienne is questioned by police.
25:53When I arrived at Chester County Detention Center, Adrienne seemed wore down, but she was willing and able to speak with me.
26:04Our first priority was to talk about the disappearance of Eugene Simpson and her potential involvement in that.
26:11We asked her to describe what had occurred.
26:15She disclosed that Tyler had shot and killed Eugene.
26:21Adrienne alleges she and Tyler had arranged to meet Eugene to discuss custody of their children.
26:30She said she wanted to talk to him.
26:32They met in a rural area.
26:37She said that Eugene and Tyler had walked down the road, and she heard gunshots.
26:44Sees Tyler returning without Eugene.
26:48Tyler gets in the car and tells her that he indeed had shot Eugene.
26:52Adrienne says that Tyler shoots alone and that he leaves him in the ditch.
27:05Adrienne never told us that the intentions were to kill Eugene Simpson.
27:09She said that Tyler was controlling.
27:13He wanted her for himself.
27:15Tyler no longer wanted Adrienne to be associated, attached, married, or whatever to Eugene Simpson.
27:23Adrienne's willingness to stay in the acts of what Tyler and Terry and her had done
27:27was just the thinking that she really loved him, that she would do anything just to keep him happy.
27:34Adrienne claims that earlier the same night, Tyler had forced her to accompany him to Thomas Harden's house.
27:46She did admit to driving Tyler to the house of Thomas.
27:52Tyler tells her they're going to go get some marijuana.
27:56But when he gets out of the car, he is armed with a handgun.
28:01She'd heard about four gunshots.
28:04Tyler came running back, put the gun on the floorboard, and told her to drive.
28:15So she did put herself on scene, but did not disclose to me of any prior knowledge
28:21to what Tyler was planning to do to Thomas.
28:25She didn't seem surprised.
28:26She didn't seem...
28:29It was like she was literally telling us a story.
28:31Once we talk about everything that's happened in Chester and York, she talks about some other shootings,
28:44much to the surprise of our investigators at the time.
28:53Adrienne Simpson and Tyler Terry are possibly involved in murders that have occurred in Missouri.
28:59Adrienne explains that after Eugene and Thomas' murders, she and Tyler hit the road for St. Louis.
29:08When they arrived, they stopped at an upscale hotel.
29:13They see a gentleman standing there with some bags.
29:17Tyler has the 9mm, and he shoots the person standing there.
29:22Who ends up being killed at that moment.
29:29They searched through his belongings and really didn't find anything else of value at that time.
29:35After fleeing the scene, Adrienne admits that Tyler began looking for the next target.
29:45There's a BMW that's traveling down the road in the same direction.
29:49She described it as an opportunity because this is a fancy vehicle.
29:53These folks most likely had money.
29:55Tyler shoots out of the vehicle.
29:57Strikes the BMW in the driver's side, back window.
30:04The BMW appears to make a sudden movement to get away.
30:13It was like, the longer she sat there, the more things just came out.
30:17It was just like a wow moment.
30:21That's the first thought I had, that we're kind of dealing with a potential modern-day Bonnie and Clyde.
30:29When she's describing the violence, she is betraying Tyler Terry as being the violent person during these incidents.
30:36Adrienne never said that she was in fear for her life or that she was afraid of him.
30:42She never voiced that.
30:43Investigators contact authorities in St. Louis and learn that the man at the hotel was Dr. Sergei Zakharov, a beloved local anesthesiologist.
30:57I could not believe that this has happened.
31:01This tragic event devastated his family and his friends.
31:06Sergei had this amazing personality that made him a friend to so many.
31:16Investigators also identify the couple in the BMW.
31:21The vehicle being driven by Stanley Goodkin and his wife Barbara was inside and she was fatally wounded by the gunfire from Tyler Terry.
31:29On May 18th, investigators set out to recover Eugene Simpson's body.
31:40Stroud Road is a very rural area.
31:43There's woods on both sides and fields on both sides.
31:45This is kind of where it was, where Eugene's body had been dumped and where she told us to go look.
31:51And eventually, Chester County deputies were able to locate the body of Eugene Simpson.
31:59We got a phone call saying that there has been a body found on Stroud Road.
32:09And once we heard that, we took off over there.
32:13And that's when we broke down.
32:18It was very tragic.
32:22There were some bullet fragments that were found in relation to the body.
32:37And we learned that there were multiple weapons involved.
32:41One was a .38 and one was a .9.
32:45But Adrian says that Tyler shoots alone.
32:52With evidence pointing towards a second shooter,
32:56investigators feel certain that Adrian played a larger role in the crime than she had let on.
33:02At this point, my focus was on assisting any way possible to safely and peacefully apprehend Tyler Terry
33:11for us to talk to him and see what he has to say about all of this.
33:1948 hours into the manhunt for Tyler Terry, investigators call on federal agencies for help.
33:26We decided to set up the command center at the Louisville High School football stadium.
33:32The FBI deployed drones.
33:34We had multiple bloodhound tracking units.
33:37At one time, we had as many as five helicopters involved.
33:41We had over 300 law enforcement officers.
33:45The FBI, ATF, and SLED are assisting in the search.
33:49Authorities say Terry is armed and should be considered extremely dangerous.
33:53Homeowners were fearful that he could kick the door in.
33:57So we had residents who were arming themselves and patrolling their own neighborhoods.
34:03The entire community is on pins and needles.
34:05Everyone was on alert because this serial killer is on the loose.
34:12They need to go ahead and get him off the streets with all the harms that he's done to the families.
34:15On May 24th, seven days into the search, law enforcement catches a break.
34:23One of our deputies actually saw him run across Highway 9.
34:29It just made the stakes even higher.
34:32We had to capture this guy.
34:34After a terrifying seven-day manhunt, authorities have spotted suspected killer Tyler Terry
34:52crossing a highway in Chester County, South Carolina.
34:56I briefed the teams that were going into the woods, and I reminded them of a Bible verse.
35:02We're told not to be overcome by evil, but to overcome evil with good.
35:08The longer he stayed out there, the more dangerous the situation became.
35:13We had to capture him, and so they did.
35:18They said, subject's in custody.
35:21Breaking news at noon.
35:23Tyler Terry in custody.
35:25On the radio at the command center, everybody was hugging and high-fiving.
35:29For us to be able to peacefully apprehend him without a single shot being fired was nothing short of a miracle.
35:39I believe he was ready to be caught.
35:42He'd been living in the woods for days.
35:44Terrible conditions.
35:46Very little to eat and drink.
35:48On May 24th, investigators interviewed Tyler, hoping to learn more about Adrian's involvement.
35:59Our first interview with him took place at the hospital where he was receiving fluids.
36:04We start talking about Thomas Harden.
36:07He tells us that he and Adrian go to Thomas Harden's home.
36:11And when Thomas opens the door, he shoots him.
36:18The difference between the two stories is that Tyler actually says Adrian is with him at the door.
36:27Tyler told us that he shot Thomas because Thomas was ruining his life by telling people that they were in a relationship.
36:36Tyler would say Thomas used to parade him around as if they were a couple.
36:43Tyler denied any romantic involvement with Thomas.
36:49Tyler also opens up to investigators about his feelings for Adrian.
36:55He actually gets very emotional.
36:57He cries at one point.
36:58He tells us how much he loves Adrian.
37:00There was one thing that Tyler kept alluding to, and that that was Adrian was his battery, and that he kind of fed off of her.
37:10He actually smiles, and he says, what would Harley Quinn be without the Joker?
37:14He says that basically she's the reason that he does what he does.
37:19When investigators ask Tyler about Eugene Simpson's murder, his version mirrors Adrian's, except for one major difference.
37:28He tells us that ultimately, yeah, he shot Eugene Simpson, but Adrian also shot Eugene.
37:38According to Tyler, Eugene and Adrian get out of the vehicle and walk in the way.
37:43He looks away for just a second, and here's a gunshot.
37:48And when he looks back up, he sees that Adrian is holding the .38 revolver,
37:53and that Eugene is stumbling around from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
37:58Eugene falls into a ditch, and at this point, Tyler says that Eugene is still alive.
38:06He goes to the vehicle and loads the 9mm and walks over to the ditch,
38:10and he fires two rounds into the upper torso of Eugene.
38:15According to Tyler, Adrian set all this into motion because Eugene was abusive throughout their marriage.
38:26We were never able to show any documentation for Eugene assaulting Adrian.
38:33Tyler admits to the murders of Sergei Zakharov and Barbara Goodkin in St. Louis,
38:41but then he reveals a fifth murder in Memphis, Tennessee.
38:45This was a case that was not on our radar.
38:49We had no idea that they had committed a murder in Memphis.
38:55Adrian didn't talk about the incident in Memphis at all.
38:58Tyler stated that it was her doing, not his doing.
39:03According to Tyler, she's pretending they have a flat tire,
39:07and when the gentleman pulls up next to him, Adrian shoots out the driver's side window,
39:13striking the gentleman, and he falls flat on his back into the roadway.
39:18Tyler said he's laid there with his arms stretched out like Jesus on the cross.
39:23He said if she went through his property,
39:25there was only like $40 that they took off of this person.
39:28So at this point, we contact Memphis.
39:34We verify this did indeed happen.
39:36The victim was determined to be Dentario Coates.
39:41But at this point, we have no reason not to believe Tyler
39:45because he filled in all the gaps and told us things that she completely left out.
39:51He just started talking and talked and talked and talked until everything was confessed to.
39:57It's almost as like they wanted to be known as this Bonnie and Clyde-type couple.
40:07Authorities charged Tyler and Adrian with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder,
40:13along with other crimes.
40:16Mr. Terry was facing about 26 charges.
40:20If you add both of his York allegations as well as his Chester allegations.
40:24On November 2nd, 2022, more than a year after their deadly three-state rampage,
40:33Adrian and Tyler plead guilty and are sentenced to life without parole.
40:41They confessed to the murders and several of the other crimes.
40:44By doing this, they managed to avoid the death penalty.
40:47What a guilty plea offers a family in a situation like this is finality.
40:53And also, you offer them and spare them the graphic details that come from a trial.
41:00Knowing that both of them will die in prison, I think, was a comfort to the family.
41:05I do think they got, you know, what they deserved.
41:07Tyler and Adrian fueled each other's passion and, in their minds,
41:13were able to justify what they did because they teamed up together.
41:18They laid a trail of tears and a trail of just hurt, you know,
41:22throughout South Carolina, all the way to Missouri and Memphis.
41:25Thomas was a good person, a real good person.
41:39And I hate that he's gone, I mean, at an early age.
