00:00The National Economic Development Authority has metamorphosed or morphed into a full-fledged department that paves the way for long-term planning and the pursuit of policies and programs with more clarity and greater returns to the public.

00:15This re-christening and rebranding of a government institution is care of the vision and determination of one powerful house chair and former investment banker and stock analyst.

00:30Some house leaders feel confident the newly established Department of Economy, Planning and Development will greatly help to improve the state of the Philippine economy.

00:42Formerly known as the National Economic and Development Authority or NEDA, it has now been formally reorganized as a department, also called DEP-DEV, under Republic Act No. 12145.

00:53According to House Committee on Ways and Means Chair Joey Salceda, one of the principal authors of the proposal, under the DEP-DEV, the government can now pursue long-term policies and projects with greater returns to the people.

01:05Additionally, Salceda highlighted that because of the creation of DEP-DEV, authorities can now better anticipate and responsible shifts, economic disruptions, and global uncertainties.

01:16In an interview earlier, House Committee on Government Reorganization Chair Jonathan Keith Flores, who is also the principal sponsor of the NEDA bill, highlighted how the DEP-DEV will also be a big help in addressing the issue of poverty.

01:30Also, with the ongoing issue on the U.S. reciprocal tariffs, levied on scores of countries to include the Philippines, Flores expects this can be addressed more effectively with the help of the new law.

01:41It's timely din, di ba? So, one of the, uh, magandang aspect kasi ng DEP-DEV bill is that there is gonna be yung tawag nating planning call.

01:50Kung may budget call, may planning call. Meaning, i-planon lang at lahat natin before gagawin yung budget.
