00:00We've already got a botched nationalisation and if you look at the bill, if it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck, it's a duck.
00:05So the reality is the Chancellor is underwriting the bills, the government is giving directions to workers at the plant.
00:12So we've got the worst of all worlds. We would support public ownership now as a transition to secure the future of primary steelmaking in the United Kingdom.
00:21But it should never have come to this and it shouldn't be being done in this botched way.
00:25Many people have seen this coming for months. We could have had a proper bill, a proper debate, not summoning Parliament with 90 minutes notice of the legislation.
00:36And we could have dealt with all of these issues in the round some time ago.
00:39Now, we supported yesterday as the least worst alternative, but it didn't need to come to this.
00:44When we were in office, we were continuing to have talks and negotiations with the Chinese owners about continued modernisation and a transition of that plant.
