00:00We don't, but I think those guys are going to race pretty clean,
00:02but we're going to get the first opportunity
00:04because this race, even though it's short,
00:06it's kind of like a main event.
00:07All the best of the West is here,
00:09and that's what we're going to watch.
00:10And James, if you go back to this race last year
00:12when Hayden Deacon had an opportunity
00:14to rough up Tom Viao, he didn't.
00:17He raced him clean.
00:18Best of the West division are on the line.
00:21They'll race first, then the East races.
00:23Then we will go to the main event.
00:26These East-West showdowns are fantastic.
00:27Let's do it Philadelphia style.
00:30It's a tricky track.
00:32There's been a lot of rain, muddy conditions,
00:35and a terrific start from Julian Bommere on the inside on the KTM.
00:40Cole Davies as well, fresh from his first career win.
00:44The teenager from New Zealand is doing a nice job.
00:48Track's going to be a night-day difference
00:50from what it was earlier today,
00:51so these guys get an opportunity to kind of fill this out.
00:54Although you want to race, you've got to let this thing play out, Lee.
00:57With as much rain as they've gotten in the last day and a half here in Philly,
01:02the SMX track crew have done a fabulous job.
01:05This is going to be, like James said, a great racetrack.
01:07Julian Bommere gets a good run, makes a small mistake at the end of the whoops.
01:11Yeah, and it's a lot different from earlier.
01:14Earlier was a lot wetter.
01:15They only had two opportunities to get under the track,
01:18so you might see some mistakes from these guys
01:19just because of the track conditions.
01:21It's changed.
01:22It dried out a lot.
01:23Our SMX track crew had his chance to work on it,
01:25and now you can see a few little mistakes,
01:27but these guys have figured it out really quick.
01:29Two-time SMX 250 world champion and current points leader.
01:33There he is there, Hayden Deegan on the 38.
01:35Check out what happened to Hayden earlier today.
01:38This was in time qualifying practice,
01:41and face plants into the mud.
01:43Yeah, you look and watch his rear wheel just locks up.
01:46Not sure if he hit the rear brake,
01:47and it caused the bike to stall right there.
01:49He was going sideways, most likely going to crash anyways,
01:52but I give him a 10 on dismount.
01:54He had some fun with it.
01:55He was laughing.
01:56He acknowledged the fans and said,
01:58oh, well, it was towards the end of the session anyway,
02:00and it hasn't harmed his race pace.
02:02He's right in the mix.
02:03Oh, it definitely hasn't.
02:04As he's watching, he's in a good spot right now.
02:06He's got his main competition at Julian on the KTM
02:08right in front of him.
02:09As you can see, he kind of makes a small mistake,
02:12but this race is still early,
02:13and these tracks are still in the breaking end.
02:15He's in a good spot, RC.
02:16Well, he is, and this is where it's going to be a lot of fun
02:19to watch these two great athletes
02:22and the battles that they've had all season long
02:25and see how they approach this heat race.
02:28I know this isn't where they're paying the main events,
02:30but do they start any funny business or retaliation from Seattle?
02:34We'll see, Will.
02:36Well, to give you a little insight on that, Ricky,
02:38I got to have a good conversation with Julian Beaumont
02:41about that subject early on today,
02:43and he said, look, about three days after the race there,
02:46I was done with it.
02:47He's like, I've realized this is being a distraction.
02:50I'm now more focused on that than I am on the racing.
02:52So complete focus shift.
02:54They also did some work on the bike,
02:56so he felt good on the bike too.
02:57He said he was trying to get better balance out of it.
02:59So all positives for Juju.
03:01He's telling himself, no, that's gone.
03:03We're moving on.
03:04Focus inwards.
03:05Bike's doing great.
03:06Right now he's in a good position,
03:08so can he hold off Hayden Deegan?
03:10I like that approach, James.
03:12I mean, you think about a guy like Hayden Deegan
03:15who's been in the spotlight ever since he was a very young kid,
03:19and I think he feeds off of situations like that
03:22where maybe someone like Julian Blumere doesn't,
03:24and it could be a distraction for him like he told Will,
03:28and I agree with his approach.
03:30Yeah, you took the words right out of my mouth.
03:32I was going to say that.
03:33I think that's more playing into Hayden's,
03:35his attitude and how he is more than Julian's.
03:38So right now Julian is a threat.
03:40That's why these guys are having this problem.
03:42So right now he's got to maybe close that inside
03:45as Hayden's trying to get up the inside of him.
03:47Oh, and Boman just has a little hiccup and opens the door
03:51for Deegan who gets sideways,
03:53and he's able to push his way into second place.
03:55Now, R.C., I don't know.
03:56I know they both kind of made a mistake,
03:58but you've got to wonder is that part of the history
04:00and how things have been going on as Julian goes in
04:03and just shows up a little Will.
04:04He knows he's going to get to him,
04:05but that mistake probably came from the past history
04:08of maybe going back and forth with Hayden,
04:10but nonetheless, Hayden was able to get around him.
04:12Now he's going after his teammate.
04:14Yeah, it could have been for sure,
04:16but this track is very difficult.
04:18A bunch of different technical sections of this track.
04:22It's dry in areas, soft in areas, ruddy in areas as well.
04:26Hey, we've got a couple of Yamahas up front,
04:28and you can take an inside look at Yamaha Racing's factory
04:31supported teams after every race
04:33on Yamaha Motor USA's YouTube channel.
04:36And they're a little bobble for Cole Davies.
04:38Here comes his teammate.
04:40Looks like Cole Davies did the same thing, James.
04:42It seems like as they land off that single jump,
04:45they miss the run and go to the outside.
04:49But huge shout-out to the 100 of Cole Davies.
04:52This kid in his rookie year has been nothing short of amazing.
04:56Running with the top runners, this guy has a ton of potential.
05:01And if you can just imagine watching from the SMX Next races last year
05:05into how he has progressed, it's unreal.
05:07Yeah, it's been unreal.
05:08And I believe one of the reasons these guys are struggling in that section
05:11is because that's one of the flat areas of the track.
05:14So none of the water can run off.
05:16So those guys are pushing it back on there.
05:18And Hayden's got a good run through the whoops,
05:20and now we're coming back on that same position.
05:22I like how Hayden's able to turn down a little bit early in that corner.
05:26Yeah, quick bobble from them.
05:28But Hayden's able to get a little more to the right-hand side of that rhythm lane,
05:32and that sets him up perfectly to make a possible pass at the end of that rhythm lane.
05:37Some massive teenage talent up front.
05:39The 17-year-old Davies leads 19-year-old Deegan.
05:42Bomara's third.
05:43Marchbanks, Moseman, Shimoda.
05:45They're having a good scrap.
05:46Look at that bottom box.
05:47Then Jordan Smith, then Lopes and Schock are in the top nine.
05:52Looks like Joe was able to make the pass up the inside.
05:54Yeah, really good pass right there.
05:57And James, as you know, oh, Michael Moseman.
06:00You can see that coming.
06:02I was going to say, a lot of those passes that we're seeing already tonight
06:05are set up from the corner before the rhythm lane.
06:08Ryder that is on the inside has the advantage coming into the corner
06:13is able to make a good competitive pass.
06:14Last time out in Seattle for the West Division on the opening lap,
06:18the youngster on the 100 went flying by Deegan, and down goes Moseman.
06:23And look at this inside move.
06:25Deegan's got him and got the lead.
06:27Yeah, man, as you were talking, Narcy, that was all set up from a corner ahead.
06:31Hayden was able to jump in over all that mess that those guys kept making mistakes,
06:34which allowed him to get back on the inside.
06:36And now he's got a clear track as Cole makes a couple mistakes.
06:39But as I said earlier, Hayden was in a good spot.
06:42Everything was right in front of him, and now he's up front leading us.
06:46Let's check out what happened to Michael Moseman.
06:48Left-hand side of your screen.
06:50He's going to come out of the corner, get a good drive into the whoops.
06:53It looks like his rear end steps a little bit to the right and then goes left,
06:57and he's alone for the ride there, James.
07:00Looks slick to me.
07:01Yeah, you go back to what Joe, he's probably happy he missed that double
07:04because he would have been a lot closer, and I think if he was,
07:06he would have been up in that mess.
07:08But Hayden Deegan, the man an hour right now.
07:12Comfortably in front on this final lap to get this east-west showdown here in Philadelphia
07:17started with the right note.
07:19One thing I like about these showdowns, guys,
07:22is how these heat races are basically a condensed form of a main event
07:26of what we would normally see in the divisional races,
07:29so it's a prelude, if you will.
07:34250 East Division race coming up, and the conclusion of this,
07:39Hayden Deegan wins over his teammate Cole Davies and Julian Beaumare
07:43in the top three.
07:46Garrett Marchbanks and his Joe Shimoda
07:49as he finishes off his race in the top five.
07:52So it's all setting up nicely as we begin this weekend.
07:57Second year in a row here in Philly, by the way,
08:00building more Supercross history.
08:02Hunter Yoder.
08:03Yeah, Yoder's going to get the job done.
08:05Man, huge opportunity for Hunter,
08:08and he's had a really good season thus far.
