A teenager will spend at least a decade behind bars for killing his mother, in what a judge has described as a ‘brutal and cold blooded’ crime. The supreme court of Vicotria heard the murder was part of a bizarre plot the boy and his friends hatched to take over the country and instil Christian values.

00:50The killer has autism and was suffering from a rare delusional disorder at the time of the murder.
00:57Today, the judge said there were signs he could be rehabilitated, but there was still a long way to go.

01:16In Victoria, adults face a standard sentence of 25 years for murder.
01:21The penalties are lighter for youth offenders and their identities are protected.
