00:00Senate President Francis Escudero will have none of colleague and Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair Amy Marcos' partisan moves to cite Ambassador Marcos Lacanilao in contempt for refusing to cooperate or specifically answer certain questions on the arrest and detention of former President Rodrigo Duterte in The Hague.

00:19Still, Escudero issued Ambassador Lacanilao a show-cause order to explain why he shouldn't be cited in contempt, as our Daniel Manalastas reports.

00:30Senate President Jesus Escudero called out Senator Amy Marcos in light of the Senate probe on former President Rodrigo Duterte's arrest.

00:39Escudero urged the presidential sister to refrain from using the Senate as a platform for her own personal political objectives.

00:47He added he will not allow the Senate to be used to further petty partisan interests, especially those seeking re-election in the May midterm polls.

00:57Escudero's statement is also in light of Ambassador Marcos Lacanilao being cited in contempt during the hearing because of allegations of lying.

01:07Senator Marcos made a statement last night saying Escudero's refusal to sign the contempt order resulted in Lacanilao's release.

01:17But Escudero clarified he did not refuse to sign the contempt order, saying Ambassador Lacanilao was ordered detained without the requisite approval in due process.

01:29And after several hours of Ambassador Lacanilao's unauthorized detention, Escudero said he ordered Lacanilao's release.

01:38I do not want to question the committee when I'm here. We're considering our options now. Kasi namatay na siya eh. Namatay ang lolo niya, siya magpapalibing bukas. Kaya lang, siya rin kaasigasa wala na siyang father eh.

01:52Escudero meanwhile issued a showco's order against Lacanilao, directing him to explain why he should not be cited in contempt.

02:01Senator Alan Peter Cayetano in the meantime hopes for cooler heads to prevail.

02:05But I've been there eh, a speaker. Hindi ka naman basta-basta pirma ng pirma talaga ng supina or ng contempt order, di ba?

02:14But I've also been chairperson na sometimes you want to prove a point and nandun na yung basis eh.

02:20So yun nga lang advice ko sa dalawang, palamig ng ulo tapos ice on the ball tayo.
