Victor Tewkesbury and bar manager Tommy Baxter have taken over the Fifth Hants Volunteer Arms in Albert Road, Southsea.
Transcript
00:00Hi, I'm Tommy. I'm the new bar manager down at Fifth Hands on Albert Road. Yeah, Fifth Hands for the Two Arms.
00:06Brilliant. So tell me what, how did it feel to have taken over the pub?
00:11Oh, it's super exciting. You know, it's a great pub, great history, amazing location, quirky characters walking past every other day.
00:18Yeah, we're happy to be here.
00:20So what prompted the takeover?
00:22So the opportunity arose and it seemed foolish. Like, how can you run down the pub on Albert Road?
00:27You know, we want to keep a lot of life in there, infusing it, good music, good alcohol, friendly people and just, yeah, it seemed like a no-brainer really.
00:37So tell me what your future plans are for the pub.
00:40Well, the camera fund for Real Ales, which I'm doing in the 70s, 1970s.
00:45So we're looking forward to getting some more pumps on, working on local breweries, so some more Real Ales.
00:52Our open mic nights are doing really well at the moment.
00:54But we're going to keep that going for as long as we can and introduce more live music.
00:58You know, fantastic record shop just down the road.
01:02We're going to introduce some vinyl DJs and stuff like that, some local radios coming down.
01:06So, yeah, just going to kick it and hopefully it goes well.
01:09Just be friendly and, yeah, enjoy it.
01:12Brilliant. So I understand that you guys run other pubs?
01:16Yeah, so we've got Lord Wragham, Nemsworth.
01:18I've had that for two and a half years now.
01:20Beautiful, water-side garden and, you know, a really nice part of the local community down there.
01:28So just good people around, really.
01:30So we're looking at trying to do a similar thing here and be a part, a bit more of a hub for the local area.
01:36Yeah.
01:36So, yeah.
