00:01My name's Kev Towner and I'm a disability rights activist. I'm here today
00:09with the Trades Council but I'm involved with many other organisations like
00:15Disabled People Against Cuts and the newly formed Crips Against Cuts and I'm
00:22here to let Helena Dollymoore know how disappointed we are that she's happy to
00:30go along with the cuts that the Labour government are proposing to put in place
00:36which will affect disabled people's benefits. I'm actually just about to, well
00:43I am in the process of applying for PIP myself and hopefully as a new applicant
00:50I will get it but it is a worry, it is a worry. I think thousands of disabled
00:57people will be put in a very difficult position financially and it's bizarre
01:03because the personal independence payment is supposed to help people be more
01:09independent so that they can in fact work and of course the Labour Party's shameful
01:14dialogue about disabled people and work implying that disabled people are shy
01:20or pretending not to be able to work and also what's happening with the media
01:26where people with mental health problems are being demonised and also told that
01:33they're kind of making it up it's just disgusting and so we're here to let the
01:38government know that that we're not happy and that this has to stop.
