00:00i'm good so uh we're gonna start with i think where we left off maybe last week because ted
00:08is concerned i'm not as concerned give us a little update on your thoughts on this jalen
00:13brown situation where he's playing 22 minutes a night and he's talking about being in pain and
00:18he doesn't look great out there what is what does it all mean and where does it all go when we get
00:23to the playoffs yeah i don't know i don't um i don't get like the the demand to get 65 games but
00:31you know if he wants to be an all nba player or get the accolades that he feels like he deserves
00:36and by all means i guess go for it it just does feel a little bit strange and um what i would like
00:43to see you know like everyone has to change their roles like based off of injury i'd probably like
00:49to see like a more aggressive jalen brown see if if he can only go for 20 minutes just to see an
00:54all out 20 minutes and see what that looks like but um yeah i mean this whole thing's a little bit
00:58strange it just doesn't feel like the way that this team operates didn't feel like they would go down
01:03this road but that's the road they're going down yeah i'm i guess i just want to flesh this out a
01:08little bit more uh scowl i mean you know him talking about his injury and he's got a plan to manage it i
01:15just i just worry i mean about what maybe you know other you know teammates are thinking kp had
01:20comments after the game last night where he's kind of questioning you know if what jb is doing i just
01:25i don't know is this something that is that you feel like maybe could become uh an issue potentially
01:33if i don't know god forbid he gets he gets hurt in one of these last few games if he if he decides to
01:38play i mean if you're if you're speaking on like him trying to get 65 games and the guys are like
01:47i am yes what are you doing yeah yeah i mean i don't i mean i i would be just like so every every
01:53every player has the right to do what they want to do right if a player goes up if a star player
01:57who goes up to a coach and says he wants to play in 65 games you know he wants to hit that threshold
02:03then i think as a coach you just have to do what you have to do like it's
02:07you're just like if a player came up to the coach and said i don't think i can play because my knee
02:11or i don't think i but i think i i want to do you know like i don't think i can play because of my
02:16knee so i'm not going to play you really can't do anything about that and vice versa if you say
02:20the player says hey i can give you 20 minutes because i want to hit the 65 game threshold you as
02:25a coach or as an organization you're you're just going to listen to what the player has to say
02:30you're not going to tell him what you think is best for him you're going to let the player decide
02:33what's best for him the player has all the information so he has the information from the
02:38training staff and the training staff can communicate with the coaches they have doctors
02:42he has his own doctor like all those things come into play and then ultimately the player decides so
02:47i i think that if if we're we're all like guessing on what what should be done or whatever it's really
02:53up to jalen brown at this point it's not on joe missoula it's not on the training staff or anybody
02:59they all have the same information and they're making a decision uh based on what jalen brown
03:04wants to do so scal a lot of juice last night at the old madison square garden uh really intense
03:11game thrilling watch a lot of fun uh obviously the celtics you know dominated the knicks the first
03:17three times last night much tighter affair if the celtics see the knicks again did last night's game
03:22give you and especially like the way carl anthony towns was able to score on tatum looked good last
03:27night brunson could be getting healthier do they give you any reason to pause or any fear whatsoever
03:32four games you think that team like as much as you've seen you're going to base it off of that
03:37game four games what if they stretch the southies out a little more well yeah i mean if we would have
03:43dusted them again what what would you i i actually don't think there's much uh like you know a correlation
03:50between the two i know we're better i know that things that we do they have problems with but like i still
03:57like they could have won that game by 30 and i wouldn't think that they could take four games
04:01off the celtics in a playoff series so the answer is no i don't think um you gotta remember like
04:07guys like jalen brown plays 20 minutes okay we don't know but al horford would have been there too
04:13you know like we're we're just loaded we are loaded so like like like who's beating this team
04:21like oklahoma city i could i could sit here i can go on your show i could swing by the studio we
04:26could talk for an hour on the pluses and minuses of oklahoma city we can go back and forth but
04:31anybody else come on man we're just like fake news at that point why are we just like creating
04:36like could you guys have to do a four-hour show we're just trying to kill an hour like just be
04:42real let's come on let's just like throw it all away like you can make a compelling argument
04:45about oklahoma city i could have made two weeks ago a compelling argument about denver
04:49because they have yokich and they're kind of big and physical that's how like that's off the table right
04:54now who knows how they are but you know like this whole thing disaster firing your gm and your coach
04:59on the same day is like the craziest thing ever but oklahoma city we can have a conversation but
05:04like i don't know the knicks four games bridges needs to catch the ball on the wing to make a play
05:10you can't get a catch i'm not i'm not down like i like the knicks i like the knicks i just don't think
05:16like the the levels of what we do and what they do is it's a mass it's a grand canyon size gap
05:24i mean carl anthony towns and jay and brunson i mean score you know 34 27 respectively and still lose
05:31the game yep yep but they're gonna replicate that four times and then other guys like i just they
05:37just don't i give them i told everybody that mitchell robinson will make a difference or gm and
05:41obi being healthy will make a difference but not four games so make a difference as in we're not
05:45going to sweep them the knicks may not be able to replicate that but can the celtics replicate we saw
05:51we're used to 30 30 games over the years but a lot of times it's jason tatum jaylen brown last night
05:56it was tatum and porzingis if these concerns with jaylen brown grow into the postseason and maybe he's
06:02not himself and maybe he's limited do you have confidence that christoph's porzingis might be the
06:07guy that steps up and be that sort of secondary running mate with tatum and do this on a night
06:12by night basis in the postseason it's it's all about how much the defense is going to tilt towards
06:18tatum i don't know if you guys consume basketball the way that i do like everywhere i watch with the
06:24celtics the defense is really leaning towards tatum right now just all the plays that he's been making
06:29and when he comes off the screen the fact that they have to be up the floor he can you know he can
06:35snap that behind the back pass you could throw like derrick white in that mix like when porzingis
06:39sets the screen and derrick white's getting to his right hand if defenses don't like pick him up he's
06:44got that floater to his right so no i don't i just don't i it could be it could be white on a day it
06:50could be hauser on a day it could be holiday if they don't people don't want to guard him but it's all
06:56like started with and i think right now i've been you know talking to some other coaches that
07:02you know i have relationships with around the league and they're all saying the same thing like
07:07tatum is probably one of the hardest guys in the nba to stop just because he could shoot that three
07:12off the dribble he could stretch you out on the iso and kill you with that like kind of that side
07:17step three he's like passing the ball really well he goes over the top he goes on the on the pocket pass
07:23uh he has that behind the back pass left hand right hand so like the biggest nightmare in the eastern
07:28conference right now and you could probably make this argument league-wide but i just don't think
07:32that that they're on they're talking about it because they are focused on their own conference
07:36but right now the biggest problem for the nba to stop is the celtic shooting with jason tatum
07:42and the way that he's running pick and roll the second that the best play in the nba right now is
07:47murray yokich murray's hurt but murray yokich pick and roll you can understand why we can i can talk
07:52about this for 20 minutes with yokich but the second best play is is cornet and tatum on that
07:59pick and roll 1.34 points per possession and that's like what about the times where tatum
08:04shooting and then cornet cleans up the offensive glass like he's got really really big problems
08:08trying to stop jason tatum right now and scout i'm glad i'm glad you brought cornet's name up i mean
08:13you got the playoffs you know starting next next week and usually typically in the playoffs you know
08:17the bench gets shortened minutes get uh you know uh scaled down to just a few players but i mean you
08:23look at the the celtics i mean they got i mean their bench i mean you go all the way cornet is the
08:28ninth player with the the with the ninth most minutes and you you talk about how he's playing i mean he's
08:34in a lot of the magical uh kind of categories he's one of the top guys i mean could you see the celtics
08:40kind of playing nine guys uh in the playoffs uh this year yeah i i do i got a stat for you like
08:47so just in general like these are all just like general teams when they shoot like when they play
08:53defense they get about 75 percent of the defensive board so about 25 percent are out there so that's
09:00like the whole entire team the whole entire offensive team gets about a quarter of the rebounds
09:07do you know in luke's last five games this guy is getting 24.4 percent of all offensive rebounds
09:15available that is that's individually he's getting more offensive rebounds per missed shot
09:22than than teams in the nba like think about that like call a team charlotte hornets whatever like you
09:30name a team luke cornet is getting more the more percentage of offensive rebounds than even adding
09:37five guys on the court that is crazy right now so cornet's in hauser's in pritchard's in
09:44heck man you might even throw baylor shireman in there for like a couple minutes if a guy gets
09:48out of trouble or you're trying to just like stretch minutes out or whatever like it's and i'll keep
09:54going back i'm going to keep on we're going to keep talking through the playoffs yeah it's all because
09:58joe mazula can put like all those guys i just mentioned you can put tatum with those guys and
10:04that could be a plus lineup think about it like they all like they all like compliment jason tatum
10:10on that so like even cornet who's amazing right now like cornet is getting like more offensive
10:16rebounds because people are worried about tatum and the shooting so he's getting free runs to the
10:21basket and he's and he's doing a great job that rebound percentage for individual is tops in the nba
10:25but it all it all goes back to the star player who is a real problem for people and that's just that's
10:31just the reality of the nba like when you have star players that have so much gravity that gets pulled
10:38their way everybody else benefits from it so scal i'm not sure if you heard this last night but uh
10:44darius garland said to a team reporter after the cleveland cavaliers win quote now the playoffs go
10:52through us they got to come see us at home now to which you would respond yeah i mean that's the
10:59answer i mean they have home court advantage and uh i think it's good that he's confident like that you
11:04have to be if you're if you're going to beat the boston celtics you can't have like you cannot think
11:08that you're that you're like not the best team in the eastern conference you have to think like
11:13game one we're coming out and we're like we're going to crush this team so i like that's just
11:18if you're an all-star player like darius garland that's standard for you know to think like that i'm
11:24but i can tell you like the the sidebar story to that is they're trying to pump up uh evan mobley
11:31to make him believe that he is better than porzingis and al horford and whoever's out there so
11:37they're trying to they're they're doing that to make evan mobley believe that he is the best player
11:43in the eastern conference and that's why they keep if you ever notice and do read and anything
11:49between the lines with cleveland their whole thing is like if evan mobley turns into what they think
11:54he can turn into like a kevin garnett minus like the head butting of the stanchion and stuff like
11:59that then they think that they have a really good chance to win it but if evan mobley who has not
12:03played well against us like not consistently if he doesn't play well against the celtics they can't
12:08win so i think all that is directed at evan mobley for him to you know he's kind of a shy kid he's a
12:14young kid to get confidence and i know that the calves have been uh really pumping him up scow two
12:20national stories you sort of touched on one with the michael malone firing in denver uh this luka
12:25donchich um ejection for apparently talking trash to a fan um was that just a simple accident by an
12:34official what would you make of that i mean luka cussed that official out earlier so i look at it
12:40both ways he was talking trash to a fan but he also got teed up earlier for you know profanity at
12:47an official so i don't know if you're the official and he cussed at you earlier and then he turned at
12:52you and he cussed at you again but he was cussing at the fan behind you you know luka's kind of have
12:56to gonna have to pick a lane here right like that's just i i think it was a mistake i wish they
13:01would have rescinded it it was a really good game in the way that you know like i was watching that
13:05game it was 108 107 at the time and the lakers went on to only make like two field goals after
13:10that and okc just like smoked them but if in my opinion if they make a mistake like that just fix it
13:16but you know like the reality is luka's over here cussing and staring down officials all game long
13:22like you're gonna get caught once in a while right so that's kind of how i feel about that i wish
13:25they would have rescinded it because it was a really good game but and in the playoffs that'd
13:29be a terrible decision i wish the nba can address something like that like with tatum saying
13:34come on peyton you got to be better and he claps his hands and the official thinks he's talking
13:38to him but he's actually talking to peyton pritcher i wouldn't want to see peyton i wouldn't want to
13:42see jason tatum get an objection for that so i think all officials can kind of like go back and decide
13:48but you know like when you do it all the time you're going to get caught once in a while and
13:52you're going to and referees are going to have to make a decision based off of that
13:56all right scal before we let you go we'll uh finish where we start i guess uh so do we expect to
14:02see jaylen brown tonight and what would your uh over under on minutes played be for him yeah i mean 23
14:08minutes like uh yeah same old same old yeah i don't i it might be under that like he has to hit the
14:1520 minute threshold for the game to count so he's probably going to be somewhere around right
14:18there and uh i don't know if you guys are into gambling or stuff like that it'd be an interesting
14:23play you know just to see i know i'm serious it's like it looks like he's going to be around those
14:28minutes so is he going to be aggressive during that time is he not like when a guy's only playing
14:3320 minutes the mindset kind of changes so it would be a really interesting play i haven't but as far
14:38as like what what he's going to do i have no idea but i think he'll be somewhere around there
14:41all right scal appreciate you joining us today and uh we'll talk to you next week
