Transcript
00:00I'm Katie Neal at leading ladies in the Tara origin interview lounge with our odyssey launch
00:07artist Cassie Ashton. Hey girl. Hi, how are you? I'm good. How are you? I'm good. How
00:12are we feeling about being in the same room as Gwen Stefani tonight? I was just telling
00:17y'all my ringtone is just a girl and not because we're playing a show together and I keep that
00:22thing on loud to let people know. Oh my god. I know this is so exciting. Okay, so you've
00:28got a lot of fun stuff coming up. Number one, congratulations. You just got thank you
00:31ACM nomination. Thank you. What was your reaction to this? It's so weird because I think most
00:37people like scream and dance and like set their phone up and record themselves. I go
00:41into like silent mode because I'm just like, Oh, what do I how do I Oh, okay. I've been
00:48working and I've been doing all these steps and I've been keeping my head down and working
00:51and working and then someone literally lifts your chin and goes look and you go, Oh, I'm
00:56farther up the hill than I was. I don't know what to say. Well, I'm so happy for you. I
01:01saw your name and I squealed for you. Okay, so your debut album made from the dirt came
01:05out in September and then you just announced you're going to be releasing the deluxe edition
01:08made from the dirt the bloom. Yes, coming out April 25. Yeah, right. Tell me about the
01:13songs that are on here the new ones. So the original I know everyone puts out deluxes
01:18they put out deluxes. I'm putting out a deluxe because the first album wasn't supposed to
01:23be 10 songs. They told me I could put as many songs as I wanted to. So I picked 13 songs.
01:31And then they were like, just kidding, you have to do 10. And I was like, but these songs
01:35are so important to me. So when I got the option to make a deluxe, I was like, obviously
01:39that three and I want to more because if kind of the movement of the first album was Hey,
01:44I was made from crap. And from struggle. This was not a silver spoon type of situation.
01:50This was not an easy breezy A to B straight line. And the blooms is kind of and look,
01:56it's been fruitful. And we're going to keep going and we're going to keep growing but
01:59we're also not going to forget, you know, how to pivot and where we came from and where
02:04we came from. And on here is this new song that you got with Parker McCollum. Yes, talk
02:09about this. Sounds like something I'd say. I wrote seven years ago, like within the first
02:15year of my publishing deal with Barry Dean and john randall. It was not a duet. And then
02:21two or three years ago, I think Parker's first CRS, he came up to me it had not been cut.
02:26It was in a file in a drawer like tucked away waiting for the album or you know, it's time
02:30to shine. And he came up and he started singing it. And I whipped around I was like, excuse
02:35you. Yeah. How do you know the song? And he's like, it's so good. You have to cut it. You
02:39have to cut it. And I was like, yeah, sure. His publisher sent it to him. And then last
02:44year, he comes up to me at the Ryman again, and start singing. He's like, you have to
02:47cut it. And I was like, if you love it so much, just cut it with me. So we sang together.
02:52I opened for him last year at Red Rocks. We closed to show out singing burn it down together.
02:57And we both were like, Oh, yeah, no, we're serious. This has to be a duet. Wait, it's
03:01amazing. And I like I love that you guys are working together. He's such an amazing artist.
03:05I also really quickly want to talk to you your wedding is coming up here. It's not this
03:09weekend, but next. Okay, yeah. Is the dress done? Because you've been handmaking this
03:13yourself? Yeah, all the bridesmaids dresses are done. Most everything else is done. I'm
03:19currently doing the bustle on my bridesmaids dress. Oh, honey, I made a 26 foot wide 12
03:25foot tall renaissance tent for the DJ booth. Oh, I can't like I don't know that I've ever
03:30been so excited to see someone else's wedding. It's a very basic way to be so many things
03:35like there won't be no stone unturned of like, as far as details for things that you've
03:39done. I appreciate that the world is very excited. I'm excited too. Are you feeling
03:44nervous about getting everything done? No, no, no, I got it. Even if I have to pull all
03:49nighters, I signed up for this. It's not like someone else gave me these jobs or these ideas.
03:53I did this to myself. So I can't I can't complain because I know it's gonna be it's gonna be
03:59great. It's gonna be great. You're an incredible seamstress, incredible artists, which we're
04:02so excited to have here at leading ladies. Thank you. Thank you.
