00:01Without objections, the gentlewoman is recognized for one minute.
00:04You know, the SAFE Act is not about protecting elections.
00:07It's about silencing voters and its voter suppression, plain and simple.
00:13You know, the so-called SAFE Act is, you know, also attacking, of course, the voting rights and access to the ballot box.
00:19But this bill would create unnecessary new barriers that would disenfranchise millions of Americans.
00:24This bill would also increase the purges of registered voters, literally kicking people off the list.
00:30Federal law, very clearly, federal law already prohibits non-citizens from voting in federal and state elections.
00:38Over 21 million Americans lack easy access to these documents that this law would require for voter registration.
00:45The SAFE Act would target marginalized communities like those in my community and, of course, impacting people of color, naturalized citizens and low-income folks.
00:5669 million American women would also be unable to register to vote simply because they changed their last name after they got married.
01:05We need to pass legislation to stop billionaires from buying our elections, not making it harder for the American people to vote.
01:12So I'm going to vote no on this bill.
01:15Again, I did it last term, and I'm going to do it again.
01:17Shame on those that continue to support this kind of legislation.
