An east-west split to start today, with clear and bright conditions in the west, but thick cloud in the east. This cloud should clear through the day, except for far eastern areas. Feeling pleasant and warm for most under the sunshine, but chillier on exposed North Sea coasts where there will be a fresh breeze. Turning cloudy for many in England later tonight. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 09/04/2025. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Alex Burkill.

00:00Good morning. Some of us have woken up to a fairly cloudy start, but not everywhere.
00:05West is best for the bright, sunny skies because we had clear skies in the west overnight.
00:09It does mean there's a touch of frost in some prone rural spots, but a good deal of sunshine through today.
00:15Further east, yes, a grey, cloudy start, some mist, some murk around, a bit of fog perhaps,
00:20but a lot of that is going to lift and clear away as we go through the day,
00:24and so by the afternoon most places will be sunny.
00:27That being said, the far east of England, some coastal parts clinging onto a bit of cloud here,
00:32and under this cloud is actually going to feel a little chilly, especially when you factor in the breeze towards the east,
00:38which is going to be a bit stronger than it has been through some recent days.
00:42Further west, like I said, lots of sunshine on offer, and here it is going to feel pleasantly warm.
00:47Temperatures for some, perhaps towards like western Scotland for example, may be a touch higher than some recent days.
00:52We could get high teens, possibly even into the low 20s.
00:57Then as we go through this evening and overnight, still some cloud out towards eastern coastal parts of England
01:02and towards the North Sea, and then that's going to feed a bit further inland across central, southeastern,
01:07southern parts of England as well.
01:10Elsewhere though, again, lots of clear weather.
01:12In fact, it's going to be a clearer night than last night across eastern parts of Scotland
01:16and the far northeast of England.
01:18That's all because our wind direction has changed a little bit.
01:21It's worth bearing in mind there will be some strong gusts around some coastal parts,
01:24maybe even some gustiness around Dartmoor as well.
01:28Where we get the clear skies, we're going to see perhaps a few pockets of mist and fog across parts of Scotland,
01:33northern Ireland, northwest England, and also a touch of frost again.
01:36Temperatures dipping a little bit below freezing in less built-up areas.
01:40Then as we go through Thursday, yes, a grey start across this large southeastern chunk of England,
01:47but I'm expecting all of this cloud to break up and burn away as we head into the afternoon.
01:52So lots of sunshine on offer again, away from the far north of Scotland.
01:56Here a bit more cloud and perhaps a little bit of drizzly rain for Orkney and Shetland as well.
02:01With that then and all the sunshine that we're going to have through tomorrow,
02:05we're going to see temperatures a little bit higher in quite a few places,
02:08but markedly higher than today across eastern parts of Scotland and northeast England.
02:13If we just show you the comparison between today and tomorrow's temperatures,
02:17and you can see how much warmer it's likely to be across that eastern, northeastern part of the UK.
02:22Some places more than 10 degrees warmer tomorrow than today.
02:26In fact, some places will be markedly warmer than they have been for several weeks
02:30and likely to be at least Scotland's warmest day of the year so far.
02:34We're looking at highs of 21, 22, possibly even 23 Celsius.
02:39More fine weather to come for many of us as we go towards the end of the week,
02:42but a bit of rain coming in from the north.
02:44And what can we expect as we head towards Easter?
02:47Well, I'll have more details about that in the 10-day trend,
02:49which will be available later this afternoon.
02:51See you later.
