00:00First in our news, in front of the government of the left-hand side of the job fairs of the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marquez Jr.,

00:10the country recorded an increase in the number of Filipinos with jobs this February compared to last January.

00:17And according to the PSA, the number of Filipinos looking for additional jobs also decreased.

00:23Christian Bascones in the center of the news.

00:27The number of Filipinos in the labor force increased in the country this February.

00:33According to the latest labor force survey of the Philippine Statistics Authority or PSA,

00:37the number of Filipinos in the labor force reached 51.09 million in February 2025.

00:43Higher than 50.75 million in February 2024 and 50.65 million in January 2025.

00:51This is equivalent to 64.5% of the labor force participation rate, which is higher than last year.

00:58Meanwhile, the number of employees in the country also increased.

01:01From 48.49 million in January 2025, it rose to 49.15 million in February 2025.

01:09This is equivalent to 96.2% employment rate, which shows 668,000 additional Filipinos with jobs in just one month.

01:20It reached 11,220 households and 31,261 individuals, which is 15 years older than the survey for the entire country.

01:30The election period has a big impact because political organizations opened the opportunity for the workers.

01:38We can see that we will see an increase in employment because of political organizations,

01:46the employees of political organizations, which is about 41,000.

01:49So, yes, most probably this will continue until May.

01:57And that, in a way, induces seasonality.

02:02But it's not substantial. There is an increase, but it's not that big.

02:07Of course, we still have core areas like our services sector, wholesale and retail trade,

02:15particularly in food and accommodation service activities, so the increase is bigger.

02:20While there are increases because of the election season,

02:27there are still other areas wherein it also contributed a relatively large number of employed persons.

02:34Our manufacturing, of course, increased.

02:36But of course, moving forward, we will also be looking at this in the light of the current situation in the world trade.

02:45The PSA also estimated that the underemployment rate in February 2025 decreased by 10.1% from 12.4% in February 2024.

02:54The number of jobs continued to increase,

02:57where 1.7 million full-time employees, 1.1 million for the middle and high professions,

03:04and 151,000 jobs were added in terms of paid and regular employees.

03:10This proves that the situation continues to improve when it comes to the labor force in the country.

03:15In spite of this, agencies continue to monitor and study the situation to ensure that all Filipinos feel the benefits.

03:23Meanwhile, the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marquez, Jr. first expressed his opposition

03:29to increasing the number of job opportunities for Filipinos

03:33after the latest labor force survey showed that the underemployment rate in the country decreased.
