00:00Welcome to Mediïn.tv, I'm Yvren, in this chronicle and the closing of the 7th edition of El Akhawain Short Film Festival.
00:17In a festive atmosphere, it's the short film Abdallah by Ines Leher, which won the Grand Prix of the festival.
00:24The film Abdallah, named after the director's grandfather, tells a family story anchored in a village near Benghir.
00:32Several other young filmmakers were distinguished during this evening, including Salma Qurtubi, who won the prize of the public,
00:39Omar Zaifawi, who received a special mention for his short film, and Soufiane Salamet, who was awarded for the best short film of fiction,
00:48and Soukaina Saadi, who won the prize of the best documentary.
00:53I invite you to listen to Ines Leher, the winner of the Grand Prix, and Nazira Houki, the founder of the festival and professor at the El Akhawain University.
01:06I am delighted to have won this prize of the El Akhawain Festival.
01:11My film is called Abdallah, named after my grandfather.
01:15It tells the story of a part of my family who lives between Benghir and Wedden, 20 km from Marrakech, and who has no access to water.
01:25At the same time, it tells the story of my grandfather's migration, who finally brings us back to Morocco, to this small village,
01:33because now he is buried there, and it is really the blessing of this village that brings together my whole family.
01:39I am really delighted to have won this prize, because it is a film that is very personal to me.
01:44Thank you very much for this opportunity.
01:47We believe in these young people, and we want them to succeed.
01:50We understand that the industry is difficult today, that it is very difficult to break through, that we need to create connections.
01:56We really need to raise these voices of youth, who are frankly just touching, beautiful,
02:04and who, unlike the previous generation, which is incredible, want to center themselves around deep Morocco,
02:11in regions that we do not see in the cinema, stories that we do not hear in the cinema, and which are made with incredible sincerity.
02:20The 7th edition of the El Akhawain Short Film Festival, which lasted from 3 to 5 April in Ifren,
02:26is organized in partnership with the Association of Laureates of the El Akhawain University of Ifren.
02:31During this edition, 11 students representing the Marrakech ISAF, the ISMAQ Rabat, the American University of Cairo,
02:37and the El Akhawain University of Ifren competed for the Grand Prix.
02:41And for this edition, 104 students from 28 institutions submitted their applications, resulting in the reception of 31 films.
02:49Presided by director Myriam Ben Bargh, the jury of this 7th edition saluted the richness and diversity of the films presented.
02:58I invite you to listen to Myriam Ben Bargh, who is the director, producer and president of the jury of this 7th edition.
03:07First of all, it is a meeting between different generations, and so the dialogue takes place in this way, and it is very, very important.
03:14It gives confidence to young people to listen to each other, to dare, to be insolent in what they propose with their films,
03:24and then to tell them, we professionals who are there, go ahead, it is possible, of course there are challenges,
03:30of course you will have to be combative because these are difficult professions, but it is worth telling your own story.
03:38We discovered absolutely sumptuous films, and all of them have a Moroccan identity, an identity to them.
03:48There is no external look on the stories they tell, it is their story, it is their identity, it is their tradition, it is their country that speaks.
03:58I was extremely touched by what I watched.
04:03I discovered young talents who already have a sense of the frame, a sense of narration that is extremely impressive,
04:13and so I find it very promising, and this generation, I love it, it gives me confidence in the future,
04:20and it makes me believe that beautiful things are yet to come for our country.
04:31And we stay in Ifrane, and on the eve of this 7th edition of the Achaouane Short Film Festival,
04:36a vibrant tribute has been paid to the Moroccan director Isa Djennini, a pioneer of documentary film in the kingdom.
04:43This recognition comes to pay tribute to an exceptional career devoted to highlighting the cultural richness of Morocco
04:50through a cinematographic work that has been able to immortalize the heritages, peoples, regions, and stories that are the founders of the Moroccan identity.
04:59This tribute to Ifrane has been marked by the national preview of Isa Djennini's last documentary, Maqbouline, Les Hôtes de Toumliline,
05:10a film dedicated to the Benedictine Monastery of Toumliline, established between 1952 and 1968 in Azero.
05:18For the director, this tribute gives you a magical character to come and present his last documentary preview.
05:27I invite you to listen to Isa Djennini.
05:31It was a wonderful coincidence that it takes place here, first in Ifrane, then in Achaouane,
05:40because the title itself fits perfectly with the film, and especially because it concerns the region of Toumliline, Azero.
05:54There were many people who were concerned with the history of these Benedictine monks who arrived in Morocco
06:04and who had founded their monastery between 1952 and 1968,
06:09with the blessing of the sovereign Mohammed V, his family, and the people themselves.
06:19It was an extraordinary experience, at the forefront of what we can now call inter-religious dialogue, living together,
06:30because all this was done very naturally, very spontaneously, between all religions, between all generations,
06:38between all beliefs. There was really a spirit, which has become the spirit of Toumliline.
06:48And the Memory for the Future Foundation, chaired by Mrs. Radhi, is very committed to a whole work of archiving and collecting documents,
07:00but above all, to find ways to restore the places and to produce a documentary.
07:08She entrusted me with this great responsibility to pass on to the younger generations,
07:20and to let them know about this wonderful experience of the presence of Benedictine monks in Morocco in those years.
07:29Thank you, dear viewers, for your loyalty.
