A woman who unknowingly adopted a banned breed had her beloved dog seized by police.

Katie Dunkley, 27, adopted Sage, 12 months old, who was believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier cross from Hope Rescue in Pontyclun, Wales, on September 10, 2024.

She spent seven months training Sage - bringing her back to full health - and even planned for her pet to become a therapy dog and blood donor.

But, on March 19, Katie got home from work and saw police officers driving down her street - jokingly telling her neighbour "I bet they are for me".

00:12I mean, I can understand if, you know, the dogs are nasty, obviously they've got to go.

00:18Look, we don't want to be doing this.
00:20It's mad, innit?
00:21Yeah, there's rules in place, and through no fault of her.
00:25Yeah, like, so she's done everything right by the book, and still...
00:28Well, she didn't know when I did the rest of this,
00:31that this six-month-old stout Chipotere would grow out of the bad breed.
00:36Yeah, yeah, yeah.
