00:00A cleared patch of land on Holiday Street could soon be home to five new towers, including
00:06one of Birmingham's tallest.
00:09Plans have been recommended for approval to redevelop the form-axis site.
00:14If given the go-ahead, it'll bring hundreds of homes, student flats and a hotel to the
00:20city centre.
00:21The tallest tower would stand at 49 storeys, with another at 39.
00:27Together they'd provide nearly 900 apartments.
00:30There's also a proposed 29-storey student block, offering more than 700 bed spaces and
00:37a food hall on the lower floors.
00:39A 10-storey building would add another 122 flats and the hotel would include over 200
00:45serviced rooms.
00:47All five buildings would surround a new public square, aiming to create a more active and
00:52welcoming space in a part of the city that's been left empty for years.
00:57Council officers say the development would support Birmingham's housing goals, bring
01:02life to a quiet corner and boost the economy.
01:05Planning documents describe it as a dynamic destination, designed to improve the experience
01:11for residents and visitors alike.
01:14But not everyone is on board.
01:16The report admits there could be visual impact from Chamberlain and Victoria Squares, two
01:22key conservation areas.
01:24Still, officers say tall buildings already shape the skyline and the heritage value of
01:30those spaces would be preserved.
01:33With conditions in place, the council believes environmental concerns don't justify refusal.
01:39A final decision will be made by the planning committee next Thursday.
