00:20Austria has closed 24 small border crossings with Hungary and Slovakia in an effort to

00:25prevent foot and mouth disease from entering the country.

00:28Slovakia declared an emergency situation on Tuesday after the disease, commonly known

00:32as FMD, was detected on three farms.

00:35Hungary had its first outbreak of the highly infectious disease in 50 years on Wednesday.

00:41The disease, which poses no danger to humans, mostly affects cattle and other cloven-hoofed

00:45animals, like swine, sheep and goats, causing fever and mouth blisters.

00:51Outbreaks often lead to trade restrictions and calls of some livestock.

00:55Austrian health authorities are conducting rigorous checks at the few open border crossings.

01:00Cars and pedestrians crossing on foot have to pass over an epidemic rug to prevent the

01:04virus from spreading.

01:06Police are also searching vehicles at border points for meat products which are restricted

01:10while this emergency persists.

01:12Authorities are also preparing contingencies in the case FMD is detected at an Austrian

01:17farm.

01:21Thousands of people participated in nationwide protests against U.S. President Donald Trump

01:26and Tesla boss Elon Musk.

02:05thousands of federal employees and effectively shuttered entire agencies.

02:10Protests also spilled over beyond the borders, with various Hands Off marches taking place

02:14across European capitals.

02:16U.S. citizens living abroad, as well as foreign nationals critical of Trump, participated

02:21in protests from London to Berlin.

02:23Protesters rallied against U.S. foreign policy and advocated for Ukraine.

02:30Italy's Five Star Party called for a rally to protest against the EU's defense spending

02:37plans on Saturday.

02:39Leader Giuseppe Conte said that in a time of economic difficulty for many families,

02:45the idea of spending huge amounts of money on armament is unacceptable.

02:50Conte called the rally to oppose the rearmament plan promoted by the Italian government.

02:56The Green, Left Alliance and the delegation from the Democratic Party also joined the

03:02demonstration.

03:07Pope Francis made a surprise appearance in St. Peter's Square on Sunday morning during

03:12a special Jubilee Mass for the sick and health workers.

03:16He was rolled into the square on a wheelchair in his first public appearance at the Vatican

03:20since being released from hospital two weeks earlier after a battle with life-threatening

03:25pneumonia.

03:26In an angelus prayer read out by Archbishop Rino Fisichella, the pontiff prayed for doctors,

03:32nurses and health care workers around the world, and wished for peace in places affected

03:36by war, as well as more aid for Myanmar and Haiti.

03:43The Israeli military has announced the deployment of troops to a newly established security

03:49corridor in southern Gaza.

03:51Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the new Morak corridor on Wednesday and suggested

03:57it would cut off the southern city of Rafah, which Israel had ordered evacuated, from the

04:01rest of Gaza.

04:03It was not immediately clear how many troops had been deployed.

04:07Meanwhile, new phone footage has been released belonging to one of the 15 Palestinian medics

04:12whose bodies were found buried in a mass grave last week.

04:16It appears to contradict Israeli claims that its military opened fire on their vehicles

04:21because they were advancing suspiciously on nearby troops, without headlights or emergency

04:26signals.

04:27The footage shows the medics driving slowly, with their emergency lights flashing, logos

04:31visible, as they pulled up to help an ambulance that had come under fire earlier.

04:38Palestinian Israeli military officials said Saturday that their initial account was mistaken

04:41and that the incident was under thorough examination.
