00:15to decide the future of the territory.
00:22Russia launched a barrage of drones against Ukraine overnight, killing at least one person
00:27in Odessa.
00:31Arab leaders endorse Egypt's post-war plan to rebuild Gaza as an alternative to Trump's
00:37proposal.
00:41European Union countries agreed on Wednesday to bring into force the entry-exit system
00:47the bloc's automated registry for short-stay travelers.
00:52Delayed for years over technical problems and lack of preparedness, interior ministers
00:58reached an agreement in Brussels for a likely start of operations in autumn.
01:04The entry-exit system's main purpose is to modernize checks at the EU's external borders
01:10and replace the stamping of passports.
01:13It will apply to non-EU citizens who come to the bloc for visits, holidays or business
01:18trips.
01:19The collection and sharing of information in real time is meant to help authorities
01:24crack down on those who overstay their short-term visas and commit identity fraud.
01:31Cyprus and Ireland will not partake in the scheme.
01:45The European Union is preparing to enter a rearmament phase.
01:49On Thursday, the European Commission will formally present a proposal for greater investment
01:55in defence at a special summit attended by the 27 heads of state and government.
02:01The Commission plans to grant €150 billion in loans to its EU members.
02:07The Commission suggests it will borrow the necessary amount from the markets and then
02:12lend these funds to the various countries over the long term.
02:17This arrangement will enable several member states to obtain more advantageous rates than
02:22if they borrowed on their own.
02:24We need that because we want to increase coordination and cooperation, both in terms of procurement
02:34as well as in terms of military integration.
02:39And for that, at the end of the day, you need something at the European level to really
02:45push things ahead.
02:47The Commission is also considering using an opt-out clause from the European Budgetary
02:52Rules.
02:53The Stability and Growth Pact sets a public deficit limit of 3% of gross domestic product.
03:01This exception would allow capitals to increase their spending within certain limits without
03:06triggering an excessive deficit procedure.
03:10I think that the adjustment, the flexibility introduced for the 3% budget deficit will
03:20considerably enable member states to raise their defence spending.
03:27I think overall it will be still a mixed picture, with some doing it more quickly and more comprehensively
03:36while others perhaps joining in a bit of a later stage.
03:39The Commission would like to see all European Union countries investing in the same direction,
03:45namely air and missile defence, artillery systems, ammunition, drones and missiles.
03:51It is also inviting its members to buy together.
03:55Let's also be clear, only if you order in larger amounts, in larger quantities, only
04:02then you will be able to bring down costs per unit and bring down and improve the scale
04:08economies essentially.
04:10So this is what you need to focus on.
04:14The Commission proposes to redirect European funds to undertake the investment.
04:20Finally, it wants to attract private capital through the European Investment Bank.
04:31The Danish and Greenlandic Prime Ministers have responded to US President Donald Trump's
04:35latest comments on Greenland.
04:38They echoed each other in their message that Greenlanders should be the ones to decide
04:42the future of the territory.
04:44I think the chairman of NALAC and SOSUT is constantly clear that Greenland is the Greenlanders.
04:50This is a move we strongly support from the Danish government.
04:55It is clear that it is the Greenlanders who should decide their future and their future.
05:01Denmark's defence minister added that it is a positive development that Trump respected
05:05Greenlander self-determination in his speech to Congress on Tuesday.
05:10Meanwhile, the German foreign ministry also took a position in support of their neighbour
05:14and ally.
05:16It is clear that borders should never be changed by force.
05:24Greenland is a part of Denmark as an autonomous region and I would leave it at that.
05:32Greenlanders should decide their own fate.
05:40The American president also said that in his speech.
05:45Greenlanders will head to the polls on Tuesday.
05:48Trump's recent comments about taking over the island have ignited unprecedented interest
05:52in full independence from Denmark, which has become a key issue during campaign season.
06:01Russia launched a barrage of drones against Ukraine overnight, killing at least one person
06:06in Odessa, regional authorities said on Wednesday.
06:10The attack, targeting energy and civilian infrastructure, left part of the city of Odessa
06:15without electricity, water and heat.
06:19It was the fourth attack on Odessa's power grid in two weeks.
06:24An energy facility of Ukraine's largest private energy company was hit, the company announced.
06:31At least 20 houses in the city's suburbs, as well as public facilities including a business
06:36centre, a post office and a medical laboratory, were damaged or destroyed.
06:42Several other regions were also targeted in the overnight attack.
06:47The Dnipropetrovsk region was hit by rockets that damaged two industrial enterprises and
06:52smashed windows in two high-rise buildings.
06:57International tourism is expected to surpass 2024 levels, which saw a full recovery from
07:05pre-pandemic levels.
07:07The travel sector is experiencing a rise in sustainable bookings amid pushbacks and over
07:12tourism that has seen several European countries such as Spain and Italy considering raising
07:17tourist taxes.
07:19But climate change is also having a major impact on travel, especially in the Arctic region.

10:27Arab leaders on Tuesday approved Egypt's post-war plan for the Gaza Strip, countering the Trump
10:35plan to depopulate the territory and redevelop it as a beach destination.
10:40The $53 billion plan, endorsed by Arab leaders at the summit in Cairo, would allow Gaza's
10:46roughly two million Palestinians to remain in their territory.
10:57According to specific stages, there are ways to gather Arab and international funding and
11:05in a framework that preserves the legal status of Gaza as part of the Palestinian state of
11:13the future, Gaza and the West Bank at the same time.
11:17Hamas welcomed the plan, saying it valued Arab leaders' rejection of attempts to transfer
11:23Palestinians from their territories in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, while Israeli
11:29officials rejected it.
