00:00It's no secret that Bristol is one of the most expensive places to live in the United
00:05Kingdom. In 2024, the majority of properties sold in the city were terrace properties,
00:12selling for an average price of £406,500. Flats in the city were sold for an average
00:20of £283,000, with semi-detached properties fetching around £439,000. This makes the
00:31average property in Bristol around £390,000, putting the city as one of the highest in
00:39the UK. But the locals think it is too hard to get on the property ladder in the city
00:44of Bristol.
00:45There's obviously a drift on the M4 from London all the time. In fact, I'm guilty of
00:51that 35 years ago. But I think that's what probably keeps the prices very high. It's
00:58a desirable city. I can understand why. But it's unaffordable. I have a daughter who's
01:03looking for a flat, but she can't find anything within the price range. It's very, very tough
01:07for young people nowadays. I'm lucky to have a place.
01:11It's a heavy burden. It's a heavy burden. By any case, it's a heavy burden. But if you
01:19want to live somewhere, there is a price to pay. And then there is the slalom, you know,
01:26with the prices, with actions in the shop and things. So far, so good, I mean. Rita's
01:34business is that she's finding the ways how to get cheap food, good food, cheap food.
01:41There is the local shop, you know, over there, the veg shop, and cheaper and good quality
01:47than over there in the supermarkets and so on. So it is, you can find a way to cope with
01:54the heavy burden of taxes and stuff.
01:59According to the Office of National Statistics, private rents have risen slightly this year
02:04to an average of £1,761, which shows an annual increase of 1.2% than this time last year.
02:15But this was lower than the rise in the South West, which was 5.9% last year. But it was
02:22higher than the average UK rent, which was around £1,333, making Bristol an expensive
02:30city within the UK to be a private renter. But how do locals feel about renting and do
02:36they feel renters get good value for money?
02:39Again, I think it's very competitive with London. And I think that's the problem. You
02:44know, they're very, very high rentals. And again, very hard to find, I gather. I mean,
02:48I've not been looking for a place, obviously, but I do understand that they're very difficult
02:52to find.
02:53That's all for the moment.
