00:00A labor group fears that tens of thousands of Malaysian workers could end up losing their

00:07jobs following the U.S.'s decision to impose a 24% reciprocal tariff on Malaysian imports.

00:14The Labor Solidarity and Learning Resources Association said Malaysia has seen an influx

00:19of investments and new manufacturing plants being set up following the U.S.-China trade

00:25war and as part of de-risking from geopolitical tension.

00:29LLRC Secretary-General N Gopal Kishnam said this had created better job opportunities

00:35for workers and brought new technology to Malaysia.

00:38However, he said the new tariff could force the same manufacturing companies to decide

00:43to relocate their operations away from Malaysia, leading to factory closures and widespread

00:49job losses.

00:50Gopal urged Putrajaya to reduce its dependence on foreign direct investments and to fall

00:55back on domestic demand instead.

00:58He suggested offering incentives for local industrialists to invest in the Malaysian

01:02manufacturing field and other sectors in order to generate more jobs domestically.

01:08He also urged the U.S. government to reconsider its tariff policy and seek a win-win solution

01:13with the affected countries, saying a trade war would only result in losses for all parties.
