00:00Do you live in this part of Leeds, or have you ever driven, walked or cycled through it recently?
00:06It's the A58 Rounday Road in the Harehills Chapel Town area, and views are being sought on proposals to transform it to make it safer for everyone that uses it.
00:17It's been identified by Leeds City Council as a collision hotspot, with plans proposed for Rounday Road, Barrack Road and the Bayswater Triangle.
00:26The junctions with Bayswater Road, Spencer Place, Roseville Road and Gledhow Road have seen 71 collisions recorded in the last seven years,
00:34resulting in 90 casualties, including one fatality, 14 serious injuries and 56 slight injuries.
00:42The junctions in the area combined make it the Council's number one site of concern in Leeds, and they'd like to implement a range of measures.
00:50These include new or enhanced pedestrian crossings to make it safer for people to cross the road,
00:55and changes to key junctions around Bayswater Triangle that aim to reduce collisions, making it safer for all road users, especially people walking and cycling.
01:05New segregated cycle lanes could ensure a safer route for cyclists and encourage people to take up cycling,
01:12and bus priority measures and dedicated bus lanes on Rounday Road could improve journey reliability and reduce congestion.
01:19Upgraded public spaces with trees and planting could also be installed to encourage people to spend more time there.
01:25The project would be delivered in partnership with West Yorkshire Combined Authority,
01:29and is part of Leeds City Council's broader commitment to the Connecting Leeds Transport Strategy,
01:34funded with £4.5 million from the West Yorkshire Plus Transport Fund's Corridor Improvement Programme.
01:39The public consultation runs until 20th April online, and paper copies can be requested.
