00:00A new consultation has launched to improve the route along Bermantoft Street and Beckett Street.
00:06It connects the city centre to St James' Hospital and neighbouring areas.
00:11The scheme builds on a previous consultation in 2019 which focused on improvements for pedestrians, bus and cycle users.
00:18Funding has been awarded from the City Region Sustainable Transport Scheme to develop proposals
00:24including safer pedestrian crossings, pavement widening outside the Bexley Wing and a 24-hour bus lane
00:31plus a two-way protected cycle track along Bermantoft Street and Beckett Street.
00:36There have been 67 reported casualties along the route since 2017
00:40and the proposals do not impact access to the hospital, with emergency vehicles and Hackney taxis still able to use bus lanes.
00:48You can have your say on the plans until the 8th of October online or paper surveys can be requested.
00:54There's also a drop-in event at the Anglers Club from 3pm on the 17th of September.
