00:16Kicking off our stories this afternoon, Filipinos scattered across the planet who wish to have

00:22their voices heard can now pick their choice of the litter of candidates for national and

00:27local positions in the midterm polls in May by way of the internet.

00:32At least 77 consulates and embassies worldwide will hold their polls online for the May midterms

00:38as per the latest statement from the COMELEC.

00:40This is unprecedented in the annals of Philippine electoral exercises and proof the poll body

00:45has delivered on its word to facilitate and expedite the voting experience of Filipinos

00:50overseas.

00:52Registration for overseas voting is on up to the 7th of May and those who successfully

00:57enroll will have the luxury to vote using their computers, laptops, tablets and mobile

01:02phones.

01:03Meanwhile, the voting period for those abroad or overseas who was successfully registered

01:09runs from April 13th to Decision Day on May 12th.

01:16Mitzi Silva Ocampo's promotion to rare admiral in the ranks of the Philippine Coast Guard

01:20came as no surprise.

01:22In October 2021, she earned her first star as general.

01:26Setting precedent as the first woman in the history of the PCG.

01:30The magnitude of this new glass ceiling shattering was not lost on Budget Secretary Amena Pangandaman,

01:36a woman empowerment crusader and PCG auxiliary rare admiral herself.

01:40In her congratulatory message to Silva Ocampo earlier today, Commodore Silva Ocampo's

01:45resume is formidable to say the least.

01:47She finished her undergraduate studies with a bachelor's degree in English and then

01:51later her Juris Doctor degree from Digos City in Davao del Sur.

01:55The latter meaning she is also an attorney or lawyer.

01:58She also finished her master's in World Maritime Law and Policy from the World Maritime

02:03University in Sweden.

02:05As it stands, Silva Ocampo is the fourth highest officer in the PCG hierarchy after Admiral,

02:10Vice Admiral and the next rare admiral.

02:13She serves the Philippine Coast Guard as Inspector General of the Internal Affairs

02:17Service Office.

02:18Pangandaman in her message hailed Silva Ocampo as a shining example of how women can thrive

02:24professionally even in a predominantly male work environment.

02:31He calls it the most beautiful word in the English language and dictionary.

02:36Less than 48 hours from now, US President Donald Trump's 20% tariffs to Canada and

02:42Mexico kick in to include 25% taxes on all automobiles and auto parts exported to the

02:49United States.

02:50And he's not budging unless government heads of the state or their representatives

02:54call him to cut a deal.

03:04As of right now, the US places a tariff on metals imported from the European Union.

03:09The European Union puts a 50% tariff on US whiskey.

03:13US President Donald Trump threatens a 200% tariff on European wine, champagne and spirits.

03:21We've been ripped off for years and we're not going to be ripped off anymore.

03:24The US imposes 25% tariffs on Canadian metals and an April tariff on lumber, dairy products

03:31and cars.

03:33Canada levies then withdraws tariffs on electricity exports but keeps tariffs on $21 billion worth

03:41of American goods.

03:43We don't need their cars, we don't need their energy, we don't need their lumber.

03:48The US puts a tariff on Mexican foods but exempts certain items included under the

03:52North American Free Trade Pact, signed in President Trump's first term.

03:57A tariff on cars from Mexico is also rescinded.

04:01Mexico says it will respond on Sunday.

04:04And for China, 20% tariffs overall.

04:07Now there'll be a little disruption but it won't be very long.

04:11The unpredictability drives US stocks wild.

04:15Analysts say if it continues, all governments lose.

04:18They think that if they protect their economy, they're going to increase the productivity

04:24and the competitiveness of industries in their own market.

04:29And actually what they're doing is putting them at a disadvantage in terms of price and

04:34access to global markets.

04:37The US argues economic pain now will yield great results later.

04:41Treasury Secretary Scott Besant.

04:43The tariffs, we've got strategic industries we've got to have.

04:47We want to protect the American worker, but a lot of these trade deals haven't been fair.

04:52The administration is sending a signal that it's not business as usual here.

04:56It's now more exports and less imports.

04:59The next round of tariffs goes into effect April 2nd.
