00:04This is what was given in the courtesy call of U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth
00:08to President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. in Malacanang.
00:11Hegseth, on the other hand, condemned the nation's opposition
00:14to help its sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea.

00:20Kenneth.
00:23Yes, Joshua.
00:24Strengthening of particular ties in the defense.
00:28This is what President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth
00:34discussed in his visit to the palace of Malacanang.
00:39Hegseth arrived last night where he was received by U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines, Mary Kay Carlson.
00:45This is part of Hegseth's first official visit to the Asia-Pacific as a defense chief.
00:50Just a while ago, the U.S. official gave a courtesy call to President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.
00:55Here, the two discussed the issue of defense.
00:59According to the President, Hegseth's visit to the country is an important message
01:04that is meaningful because it is a solid commitment of the United States,
01:08especially when it comes to peace.
01:13Your visit to the region, and especially the fact that you have come to the Philippines as your first stop,
01:20is a very strong indication and sends a very strong message of the commitment of both our countries
01:28to continue to work together to maintain the peace in the Indo-Pacific region within the South China Sea.
01:36And I know that the work that we will do in the time that you have here, brief as it is,
01:41in the time that you have here in the Philippines,
01:44will be extremely productive and very, very important for us as we chart our way into the future
01:53considering how complicated geopolitics has become.
01:59The President also gave a long-term cooperation between the country and the U.S.,
02:03especially its support in assisting the Philippines in its sovereignty without using force.
02:11You are our only treaty partner and continue to be the supporter for peace in this part of the world.
02:23And we have always taken, we have always understood the principle
02:30that the greatest force for peace in this part of the world would be the United States.
02:38Hegseth also conveyed the message of U.S. President Donald Trump
02:42that he is ready to continue the alliance, friendship and cooperation between the Philippines and the U.S.
02:53He and I both want to express the ironclad commitment we have to the mutual defense treaty
03:01and to the partnership economically, militarily,
03:05which our staffs have worked on diligently for weeks and weeks and months.
03:10There is a very real reason why our first trip and our first visit is here to visit you in your great country.
03:20Hegseth also acknowledged the country's commitment to assist its sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea
03:25while also emphasizing the importance of assistance to put an end to any chaos.
03:34Deterrence is necessary around the world but specifically in this region, in your country,
03:41considering the threats from the communist Chinese
03:44and that friends need to stand shoulder to shoulder to deter conflict,
03:49to ensure that there's free navigation.
03:52Whether you call it the South China Sea or the West Philippine Sea,
03:57we recognize that your country has stand very firm in that location and in defense of your nation.
