We went out into Manchester to ask people about viral food spots and whether they would be willing to queue for a number of hours to get their hands on a meal they’d seen online.

00:00Hello and welcome to another lovely spring day here in Manchester. My name's
00:04Theo Kusenbetz and this is People on the Street, the series where I'll basically
00:08stop people on the street and ask them about a specific subject. Today's subject
00:13is all about viral food spots and that's because here in Stephenson Square, just a
00:17few weeks ago now, Get Baked Opened. It's initially sort of a Yorkshire brand
00:21with some amazing cakes and shakes and a massive range of really really awesome
00:25sweet treats basically, but queues went around the block when it first opened
00:30and it really has brought a little boom of business to a place that's very
00:33popular in Manchester anyway. I want to know if there's any food brands or any
00:37food items that people are willing to queue for, why they think food has become
00:41this viral sensation and what they're hoping will be opening in Manchester
00:46soon. I'm pretty impatient too, I would just go home and make myself something
00:49instead. Not really no, I can't think of any food place that I've been to have
00:54good that I would wait two hours for, at least in like a line, if I was sitting at a
00:59restaurant maybe, but two hours is just a bit much. I'd rather just, I'm pretty
01:04impatient, I think I'd go somewhere else. Because they just love the little social
01:09validation that they get from it, like oh I went to Get Baked, I went here, I went
01:13there, I did this, like flipping hell man, just wait like a couple of weeks and go
01:17afterwards if you're that desperate. I haven't really explored that much food
01:22in Manchester, like anything crazy. There's a really good pizza place that would probably queue for, which is down near
01:31like Salford way. Two hours is quite a long time, I guess it depends like how much
01:37they've like posted about it and if it looked really good. Like a day out kind
01:42of activity for them in it, like oh like let's go do this kind of a thing. I mean
01:46it all depends on what people are into, if you want to do that then by all means
01:49go ahead, but you know it's not really something I'd do. I don't know, I mean if
01:53you're willing to wait two hours for a baked potato then by all means. If it looks really good and they're like, you know, they've been influenced by the
02:04marketing, maybe they want to brag to their friends about they tried it first
02:08and you know. Yeah I know like definitely for Get Baked, that one's been going
02:14viral at the moment with their like chocolate cake that they've got and
02:19I've had lots of people saying that they wanted to try it but haven't. If it's not
02:25something that you think you could make yourself I guess and it looks really
02:28good online, I guess yeah. I'm not sure I'd wait two hours. So there you have it, obviously with
02:35Get Baked opening here recently, a visit from Spud Bros causing two-hour long
02:39lines down towards Market Square. This really is an exciting time for food
02:43creators. Anyone who has an original idea and an exciting way to create
02:48content can make it big and that's something to be applauded and you also
02:51heard about some great things that people want to see here in Manchester. So
02:56that's all for now. Follow Manchester World for more and we'll see you again soon.
