00:08it just metres away.
00:10The aftermath of a deadly collision.
00:13The circumstances are now subject of a critical incident investigation.
00:16A senior officer was behind the wheel of this car, which struck and killed the 48-year-old
00:22rider in Waterloo in the early hours of this morning.
00:26The police officer immediately rendered assistance and called for further assistance.
00:31It's understood the officer was attempting to pull the man over, before mounting the
00:35kerb and taking out a street sign.
00:38A significant amount of prohibited drugs, we would allege is methamphetamine or ice,
00:44was located along with a large amount of cash on the deceased.
00:49Investigators suspect the drugs were being sold, but won't say whether the acting sergeant
00:55knew any of this before the incident.
00:58I'm not the officer, only he could tell us that, and that will form part of the investigation
01:03as to what he was thinking at the time.
01:05Police say there is no body-worn camera footage of the crash, and that the vehicle involved
01:10does not have video recording capabilities.
01:13It means their investigation will rely on security cameras that may be in the area,
01:19and the acting sergeant's own version of events.
01:25The investigation will be subject to an independent review.
