While many people might dread the thought of having a meal at a restaurant with seven complete strangers, our reporter Kevin Quinn loved his first Social Appetite experience earlier this week. Watch as he gets to know his fellow guests at Sushiya Japanese restaurant in Dalry.
Transcript
00:00I went along to Sashaya Japanese restaurant on Dalry Road earlier this week to have dinner with seven strangers.
00:08Social Appetite is a bi-monthly dining event. Guests get to know each other during a free course meal,
00:16with games also to help break down barriers and get people talking.
00:21After our initial icebreaker game, I spoke to the host to find out more about the group.
00:27I started Social Appetite because I moved up to Edinburgh two and a half years ago.
00:33I couldn't find anything that was meeting people and food combined,
00:40so I decided to create a business to meet new people really and to explore new cuisine.
00:53So far so good?
00:56It's going really well. I'm really pleased with the atmosphere we have.
01:02The restaurants are really receptive of it. It's been really, really good. It's been a lot of fun.
01:10I really enjoyed Social Appetite's third event.
01:14With no awkward silences and plenty of chat to keep the night going, I had a great time.
01:20After enjoying my starter, I spoke to one of my fellow guests to see what he thought of the Social Appetite experience.
01:28Yeah, this is my second time at a Social Appetite evening.
01:32I've come back because they're just really good fun.
01:36If you love trying different food and meeting different people, then you've got both in one evening.
01:43Both times I've been, people have just been fantastic, and so has the food.
01:46And tonight, been good tonight?
01:49Yeah, it's been a great evening. I love Japanese food, so that's just the reason I came to this one.
01:54The food has just been amazing. Lovely atmosphere, great games, really good fun.
01:59Our next game, Kitchen Blackout, saw us split into two teams and given a list of ingredients to come up with a meal.
02:06Our host announced the winner.
02:08As well as great company, Sashaya put on some great Japanese food as we enjoyed our free course meal.
02:16And I caught up with Rosie again to see what she thought of tonight's event.
02:20Fantastic venue, and tonight's gone really well. Really pleased with the food.
02:27It's been a really good time.
02:30Whilst some people might dread the thought of having a meal with seven strangers,
02:35I had a great time at my first Social Appetite Experience earlier this week.
02:41I would like to thank all of you for joining me for this meal.
02:45I hope you enjoyed it.

02:51I hope you enjoyed it.
02:53I hope you enjoyed it.
02:55I hope you enjoyed it.
02:57I would highly recommend Social Appetite with the next event happening at a Lithuanian restaurant next month.
03:05With people coming and going from Edinburgh all the time, this is a great chance to meet up with new friends and forge new connections.
03:15The night at Sashaya was rounded off by a great educational treat with a presentation of how to make Japanese Matcha Tea.
03:23After this ceremony, we will let everybody have a taste of the matcha.
03:30There is only one order.
03:33So the way you whisk it, you will not do it in a circular motion.
03:54You will do it back and forward to create a nice foam.
