Transcript
00:30We both were very keen sportspersons and we both represented our school in the All India
00:51Nationals in Tabletennis.
00:52We both were also into the martial arts.
00:55He was absolutely a guy who wanted to get into the forces right from early childhood
01:02days.
01:19And for two consecutive years, he was declared as the best cadet of Punjab directory.
01:24And he also led the 26th of January 1994 Republic Day Parade at Rajpath in Delhi, which is a
01:31very coveted thing to do.
01:39So he was a part of the Jisor Company and Manik Shah Battalion, he was one of the top
01:55rankers there.
02:16He said that I think this bullet was meant for me, but somehow it sneaked through my
02:20ear and hit the other guy.
02:22And he mentioned that, Vishal, I decided that I'll avenge the death of my soldier and by
02:28morning he had eliminated the terrorists.
02:39You won't believe it that he took his shirt off and when I looked at his back, it was
02:42completely bruised.
02:43And I, you know, while I had some tears in my eyes, man, oh, how could he do this?
02:47He said, you know, they make a man out of you.
02:58During his 50-day Kargil war tenure, he wrote me four letters and in none of the letters
03:05he had written anything which showed that he had a fear.
03:09And even when he captured the first peak, he was interviewed by the local media.
03:14And think of the confidence he had that he wrote in one of the letters that I've been
03:16interviewed by the media and you would have seen my interview on the television.
03:21So please, I'm sure you keep a copy because I want to see them when I'm back.
03:24So nowhere he would have thought that he's not going to come back.
03:42So when he called up, he told dad, dad, you'll be happy to know that I've captured a peak.
03:47And you won't believe it, dad misheard.
03:50Dad heard that he's been captured by the enemy.
03:52So dad got a little, you know, a little scared.
03:57And then he could sense at that point of time also that I think dad has not heard him correctly.
04:02Then he said, dad, you'll be proud to know that I've captured the peak you lost at the
04:06tri colour.
04:07And dad was very happy.
04:41He was the guy who was a leader and, you know, I think every soldier of his, his platoon
05:05people used to swear by his name because everybody knew that he's the man who will walk in the
05:08front.
