00:00Before we get to all that, let's recap some things that happened yesterday in sports.
00:03And we'll begin with the possibility of sports betting coming to the arena for the Oklahoma
00:08City Thunder.
00:09There is a bill that's currently underway that could potentially get passed.
00:12It's called Senate Bill 585, where they need 25 votes to pass.
00:17And then there's a possibility that a motion could end up getting closer and closer to
00:22legalizing sports betting in Oklahoma City.
00:25And so the commission would authorize a use to one license to a professional sports team.
00:30It would only be the Thunder and the NBA, so they would be able to do a contract with
00:34a tribal approved mobile sports book.
00:36We don't know who that would be as of yet.
00:38The state could make $20 million in annual tax revenue from the amended proposal, which
00:43would tax online sports betting at a rate of just 10%.
00:47Seems like a win-win for both sides.
00:49We'll keep you updated with our friends at Legal Sports Report as to whether or not this
00:52happens.
00:53Meanwhile, on the side of BetMGM in Canada, they're being penalized for violating the
00:57internet gaming rules in Ontario.
01:00The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, the AGCO, has issued a BetMGM Canada an order
01:07for monetary penalty of $110,000 for violating the commission's standards of internet gaming
01:13and regarding advertising for marketing in 2024.
01:16In fact, according to the AGCO, BetMGM representatives offered $100 in cash to new players who opened
01:21up an account and deposited $15 at the National Franchise Show in January, and two months
01:26later, BetMGM, they self-reported the inducement in the marketing through an affiliate above
01:32the street.
01:33Improper results signed up 377 new clients they've self-reported.
01:38We'll see what the penalty ends up being.
01:40Meanwhile, LeBron James, a big night last night, a buzzer beater, 120 to 119 as the
01:45Lakers end up beating the Indiana Pacers.
01:48It was right off a Luka Doncic miss.
01:50LeBron ends up giving the game winner, no question, a huge win for the Lakers down the
01:55stretch here.
01:56JJ Reddick and LeBron talked about the final shot.
01:59Well, I think certainly there was a level of frustration from starting whatever it was,
02:060 for 6 or whatever it was.
02:10We missed them early on some early offense seals against smaller players.
02:15I think we missed them three times in the first half.
02:17And sometimes, when you're not in the offensive flow, just getting the ball at the rim, scoring
02:23a layup, getting to the free throw line, that can really get you going.
02:26We kind of missed out on some opportunities to get him going earlier.
02:31But never have questioned that guy's commitment to winning.
02:34You always talk about the main thing, main thing, and you're going to do whatever it
02:37takes in the course of a game to win.
02:40Is there some kind of poetic justice in a rebound, a putback, when you were scoring
02:44early but you were on the glass, you were playing defense, and that being the difference?
02:46Yeah, I mean, whatever it takes to help your teammates win.
02:51For me, I can always do other things that still impact the game, even when I'm not scoring.
02:56That's the beauty of my game.
02:57I've always built that throughout my whole life, as far as being three-dimensional, being
03:01able to get my guys involved, being able to rebound, defend, and then sprinkling a few
03:05points from here to there.
03:07Boston Celtics end up winning without Jason Tatum yesterday.
03:11Chris Tapp's Porzingis had 30 points.
03:13It was a 28-point win over the Suns for their seventh straight victory.
03:18The Celtics made 10 threes in the first quarter.
03:21They also shot 22 of 52 from three-point range.
03:26And the Celtics end up winning by playing great defense against the Phoenix Suns in
03:31this game.
03:32Essentially, Joe Mazzulla talked about not having Tatum in this one, and the rest of
03:36the squad picking it up on the opposite end.
03:38I just said that I had a defensive approach.
03:40I thought the guys were able to take it to another level.
03:42I thought it was a shootout in the beginning of the game, and we had some cross-match breakdowns.
03:48They had a few offensive rebounds, and then I thought we just really dialed it in.
03:53And I thought our shift activity was really good.
03:55They're one of the best quarter three-point shooting teams in the league.
03:58We were able to take that away and kind of just keep everybody in front, keep it 5-on-5.
04:03So I thought the guys did a great job of that.
04:07Coach clearly got away from you guys.
04:09As far as the three, you knew coming in that they shot it from there, and they shot a volume
04:14of attempts.
04:15How'd they get so loose, and why did they get so loose from there today?
04:18Yeah.
04:19You know, we double teamed the ball some, probably were not sharp enough in our rotations.
04:28They moved it.
04:31You know, they were aggressive, I thought, even just off of offensive rebounds, which
04:35we know they do in transition.
04:38Horford, you know, the two makes he made, I feel like we're both in transition, just,
04:43you know, getting back.
04:44And, you know, I think they just got such a willingness to let it fly.
04:50But certainly, we put two on the ball early, and they made us pay.
04:56And so, you know, we got to be better.
04:59Clippers beat the Knicks 126-113.
05:02James Harden had 29 points.
05:05He also had six rebounds, six assists.
05:07Kawhi Leonard had 27 points as well.
05:10All right.
05:11College basketball's backup tournament, as we call it, NIT.
05:14UC Irvine beats UAB by a final of 81-77, a final in this one, as the Anteaters win in
05:23overtime.
05:25And another final yesterday, Loyola Chicago has advanced to the semis as well.
05:30They beat Kent State, final score, 72-62.
05:36In Major League Baseball, folks, it's here.
05:39Opening day begins later today.
05:41So if you're ready to watch all the games, 3, 4 o'clock Eastern, probably the time to
05:47start for most of these games, and I'll be at one of them, Miami-Pittsburgh.
05:50Of course, Yankees are at home today.
05:53Some fun games this evening as well.
05:54Opening day, one of the great days of the year, and we'll have it for you here.
05:58Of course, covered for you here at SportsGrid.
06:00Meanwhile, yesterday, the Red Sox confirmed Raphael Devers is going to be the DH for them
06:04this season.
06:05We thought this all along.
06:06Alex Bregman would play third base.
06:08Mickey Moniak let go by Philly, picked up by the Rockies.
06:11He signs a one-year deal with them.
06:13And Jason Foley, who was the closer for the Tigers last year, had a really tough time
06:17in the spring.
06:18They actually sent him down to the minor leagues.
06:20We would expect lineups for this afternoon's games in Major League Baseball to come out
06:24probably within the next hour or two, so stay tuned for that.
06:28All right, Russell Wilson says that he expects to be the starting quarterback.
06:31How about this?
06:32Of the New York Giants.
06:34Giants signed him.
06:35They signed Jameth Winston.
06:36They're expected to draft a quarterback, too.
06:38The Minnesota Vikings GM, very interestingly enough, Kwesi Adolfo Menza, said that he's
06:43not ruling out the possibility of Aaron Rodgers signing with them, but J.J. McCarthy is the
06:48quarterback going into the season.
06:50And also, the NFL Competition Committee is trying to pitch making the dynamic kickoff
06:56permanent.
06:57The NFL projects that the kickoff return rate will rise between 60 and 70 percent if owners
07:02approve a rule change that will place touchbacks at the 35-yard line.
07:06It was 32.8 percent last season.
07:09All right, so that's the latest in baseball and basketball, and then again tonight, we
07:13got some great matchups and showdowns, one of which is, boy, a great sports grid showdown
07:19here because my Gators and Greg Sussman's Maryland Terrapins are going to face off,
07:27and hopefully I'll be able to watch some of this game because it would be a baseball game
07:30at the time.
07:31Gators are six and a half point favorites as they take on Maryland tonight, and the
07:35total is 156 and a half.
07:37We're going to preview that game coming up next with Michael DiCorsi of Sporting News.
