When to take CT Scans, steroids and get hospitalised? Here are 4 takeaways by AIIMS Chief, Dr. Randeep Guleria on treatment after you've contracted Covid.
Transcript
00:00If you take steroids in the early stage, then the replication of the virus will be increased.
00:10And many times, the mild cases get severe viral pneumonia, the virus spreads in the lungs
00:16because they get very high dose steroids from day 1.
00:19Steroids are for moderate illness only.
00:21In mild illness, when you are on home isolation, your saturation is maintained.
00:26In the early stage, in the first 5 days, there is no role of steroids.
00:33It can actually be again harmful.
00:39There have been many studies.
00:40One study found that in asymptomatic people, 30-40% asymptomatic people,
00:46who have no symptoms, only their Covid is positive,
00:49they also get some patches in their CT and they themselves die without treatment.
00:55So, there is no benefit of getting a CT, especially if you have mild illness,
00:59you are on home isolation and your saturation is fine and there is no such symptom.
01:08If we get a CT done, it is equivalent to almost 300-400 chest X-rays.
01:13In the younger age group, by getting a CT done, the risk of cancer in later life increases.
01:18So, you are only harming yourself when there is no need for it
01:21because you are exposing yourself to radiation.
01:28There are some warning signs like your saturation is decreasing,
01:33it is decreasing from 93 or 93 or there is a state like unconsciousness,
01:38there is more laziness or there is a lot of pain in the chest.
01:41There are such warning signs.
01:43Then you should contact the doctor immediately and if necessary,
01:46then you should also take support for admission.
