00:00Cardiff City find themselves in real danger as the Championship relegation battle has
00:09heated up. A poor run of form has dragged them closer to the drop zone and with tough
00:15fixtures still on the horizon, survival is far from guaranteed. Defensive issues, inconsistent
00:21performances and a lack of goals have all contributed to their struggles, leaving fans
00:27increasingly concerned about what lies ahead. So how did Cardiff get into this mess and
00:33what needs to change if they're to avoid the drop? We take a closer look at their season
00:39so far and what they must do to turn things around.
00:44Well, Charles, Cardiff City still find themselves in a lot of bother in the Championship at
00:50present. They did claim a perhaps unexpected win against Blackburn. Of course, Blackburn
00:56aside challenging for the playoffs of late. But despite that, Cardiff are still very
01:01much in the mix trying to fight against relegation. It's been a pretty uninspiring season for
01:07the Bluebirds. But well, what do they need to do to just to maintain the fight? I mean,
01:13at the moment, things are OK, I think is probably one way of putting it. They're not certainly
01:19down and out and they are they have got some breathing room, but it's not a lot. And, you know,
01:27things can quickly change and there's not many games left as well. So things were to take a
01:30turn for the worse. They wouldn't have a lot of time to sort themselves out. So it's going to be
01:35a stressful few last games in the Championship this season for them. How do they manage to
01:42survive this season? What what will it take? What will they need to do to to remain a Championship
01:47club come the end of May? Yeah, I think the Cardiff City fans have been really frustrated
01:54with the board's communication and the situation regarding how long it took to sort the
01:59managerial situation. I mean, it goes back that far in terms of the start of the season where
02:03Omar Izza was sort of the interim coach. Then they decided to give him the job on a full-time
02:09basis. I mean, as you say, that win away at Blackburn was massive for their confidence,
02:13because before then their last win in the Championship came in the back end of February.
02:19And obviously that involves an FA Cup loss as well, but they had a fantastic FA Cup
02:24run. So that was really good for their confidence at that time with Omar Izza's side.
02:29Then they have some tough games, Burnley, Sunderland, and then suddenly you play Luton
02:36at home, a team really right behind you in the relegation battle, and you end up losing at home
02:42to Luton Town. I mean, that really put a dagger in the hearts of their sort of ambitions as of
02:47late and their confidence. I mean, so that was a huge game. Omar Izza came out and said it was
02:52nowhere near good enough, and they sort of dealt the psychological blow before on Hull City with
02:57their win in the relegation zone. But Luton had sort of done the same to Cardiff in that respect.
03:03So it was sort of a moment where the tides had changed in that respect. And yeah, that was a
03:09huge loss. I mean, the confidence gone out of that side. And then, you know, you look at this
03:13international break and there's no Cardiff players in the Welsh team. So that's sort of for a first
03:20in a very long time. Aaron Ramsey obviously injured again, and Ruben Colwell, you know,
03:25not in the side, not included. But Craig Bellamy made sure that he said that he has got a lot to
03:32learn. He's still very young and can still be a huge part of the Wales squad. I mean, in terms
03:37of Cardiff, they need to regroup. They need to go again. Only, you know, nine wins in 38 games in
03:44the Championship is nowhere near what you need to survive at the moment. So the battle is really
03:50going to go down to the wire. Obviously, Aaron Ramsey, you know, a seasoned pro, but again,
03:54his injury record just isn't great at the moment, given his age and what stage he is of his career.
04:00But yeah, it's just from the outside, at least, it just seems as though they're...
04:07I wouldn't say limping, that's a bit harsh, because as I say, they did get that good win
04:10against Blackburn overlay, but certainly not making it massively easy for themselves overall.
04:15Yes, good wins aside, but some of the performances have been pretty poor. So
04:20is there anything that stands out that is something for the fans to sort of latch on
04:24to for the remainder of this season that they can really, you know, place their trust in?
04:28Yeah, I think simply it's Yusuf Salih. I mean, he's been an unbelievable signing
04:33since he came in in January. He's made a real impact both on and off the pitch.
04:38Remaining a Championship club could rely on a bit of quality from the players like Yusuf Salih.
