As alcohol consumption among young people declines and beer prices continue to rise, we ask locals why they think drinking is becoming less common and how social habits are shifting.

00:00I think there are a mixture of things probably impacting drinking in young people.
00:06One is affordability, people are kind of struggling to pay rent, get a decent job, a night out
00:12now is really expensive.
00:15General health considerations, some people want to be fitter and there's better things
00:18to spend their money on.
00:20A lot of the youth, they do want to change and sometimes it takes maybe like, you know,
00:25examples like footballers or fighters who've been there and changed it, you know, that
00:31they now are looking for better ways and obviously when incidents happen, people do learn from
00:36it.
00:37Price, purely on price, they can't afford it anymore.
00:41And I think young people socialise, I don't think young people socialise outside their
00:46houses as much, I think there's more online and I think there is for some young people,
00:52certainly my son and his wife, just don't enjoy drinking anymore.
