00:00I'm Anthony Rizzo, first baseman for the Chicago Cubs. I practice yoga.
00:14When you get on the mat, you start from the feet up. You ground yourself and you feel it from the ground up.
00:20And once you really focus on that, you kind of get an understanding of the body.
00:25Just be able to slow everything down. To have the muscles that you need loose gives everything else a chance to work fluidly.
00:33About a 20-30 minute routine, and I really feel like my body's at least in a good position to go out and perform.
00:39When we first started, my adductors were super tight, so I definitely think it's a beneficial factor to just stay on top of everything.
00:47I'm Christine Schwann, and I'm a Chicago Cubs yoga instructor.
00:51I work with them in the off-season as well as in-season, bringing to it the breath work, the mindfulness, the meditation.
00:59And then the yoga becomes the vehicle through which I introduce them to their bodies.
01:05Working with Anthony was incredible. He introduced them to his body at a different level that he hadn't even thought about.
01:13He then has taken that to knowing his body and figuring out exactly what works for him.
01:19What does his body need and how does his body respond? Just like hydration, how do you know when you're dehydrated?
01:25How do you know what to drink when you're dehydrated? And so now it's just part of the routine.
01:31It's all natural ingredients. It's not like you're really putting artificial sugars in you.
01:35You're putting fluids in your body that are going to help break down faster and help your muscles recover quicker.
01:39I'm 29. I'm young. I live my life.
01:42I don't live on the scared side, but I do try to stay more on the healthier side of food and drinking, especially in sports.
01:52Being in the World Series, all eyes are on you, right?
01:56It's a team sport, but you're doing an individual thing while you're hitting or pitching.
02:01You know, when you do yoga, the meditation you do, the focus you do, really focusing on the breath.
02:06You really got to go to a different place of just calmness to get to do it, and I feel like it helps me translate to when you're in big situations.
02:16Being able to just take that breath and relax, and I'm already in a relaxed state, so stay there, staying there.
02:26The functional movements are the most important for me, is being able to move and being athletic still.
02:30The quick fibers, the quick twitch muscles that you need to activate at all times.
02:34That does fortunes and wonders for life and baseball, so keep practicing this.
02:41I'm not ashamed of who I am at all. If this isn't manly, then I don't know.
